2nd thought for today “Praise Jehovah God Who Creates and Saves” (January 16)

The previous days we have seen how man can be tempted and drown in his own troubles, but how he can find refuge in the Creator God. When after seeing where one’s faults are and willing to confess them one can become liberated of those sins and find reason to rejoice and praise God.

David asks the righteous to sing for joy to Adonai, because praise is fitting for the upright and pleasant and beautiful.

“ Rejoice in Jehovah, O ye righteous: Praise is comely for the upright.” (Ps 33:1 ASV)

“ Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach, Yea, unto my neighbors exceedingly, And a fear to mine acquaintance: They that did see me without fled from me.” (Ps 31:11 ASV)

“ «A Psalm, a Song for the sabbath day.» It is a good thing to give thanks unto Jehovah, And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High;” (Ps 92:1 ASV)

“ Praise ye Jehovah; For it is good to sing praises unto our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is comely.” (Ps 147:1 ASV)

“ Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not irksome, but for you it is safe.” (Php 3:1 ASV)

“ Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice.” (Php 4:4 ASV)

David asks to come to the Most High for the word of the Eternal Adonai is upright, perfect and true, and all His work is done in faithfulness. Though many say there is no god or it would be a cruel god, we should see that it is man who brings cruelty into the world and that God His actions are always faithful and right. The Elohim Hashem Jehovah loves righteousness and justice. At the moment, the earth is not full of the love of Adonai, but we may be sure one day it shall be that the Eternal’s love (covenant love), His loyalty shall fill the whole earth.

“3 Sing unto him a new song; Play skilfully with a loud noise. 4 For the word of Jehovah is right; And all his work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loveth righteousness and justice: The earth is full of the lovingkindness of Jehovah.” (Ps 33:3-5 ASV)

“ And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in Jehovah.” (Ps 40:3 ASV)

“ Oh sing unto Jehovah a new song: Sing unto Jehovah, all the earth.” (Ps 96:1 ASV)

“ «A Psalm.» Oh sing unto Jehovah a new song; For he hath done marvellous things: His right hand, and his holy arm, hath wrought salvation for him.” (Ps 98:1 ASV)

“ Make a joyful noise unto Jehovah, all the earth: Break forth and sing for joy, yea, sing praises.” (Ps 98:4 ASV)

“ I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: Upon a psaltery of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.” (Ps 144:9 ASV)

“ Sing unto Jehovah a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth; ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein, the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.” (Isa 42:10 ASV)

“ And they sing a new song, saying, Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou was slain, and didst purchase unto God with thy blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation,” (Re 5:9 ASV)

We should know that the counsel of the Lord stands forever. The Eternal’s purposes were there from the beginning of times and will last to the end of time.
The thoughts of His heart and His counsels and ideas [L the plans of his heart] will last from now on, standing [enduring] forever.

“ The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations.” (Ps 33:11 ASV)

“ I have not gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” (Job 23:12 ASV)

“ There are many devices in a man’s heart; But the counsel of Jehovah, that shall stand.” (Pr 19:21 ASV)

“ Many, O Jehovah my God, are the wonderful works which thou hast done, And thy thoughts which are to us-ward; They cannot be set in order unto thee; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.” (Ps 40:5 ASV)

“ How great are thy works, O Jehovah! Thy thoughts are very deep.” (Ps 92:5 ASV)

“ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” (Ps 139:17 ASV)

“ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah.” (Isa 55:8 ASV)

Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favoured by God] is the nation whose God is the Lord Most High,
made up by the people whom He has chosen as His own inheritance.

“ Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Ps 33:12 ASV)

Jehovah looks down from heaven and sees all the sons of man. Nobody can escape His eyes.
From His dwelling place He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth. He who fashions the hearts of all, who discerns all their deeds is the One to Whom we should look at and bring praise.

“13 Jehovah looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men; 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh forth Upon all the inhabitants of the earth, 15 He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, That considereth all their works.” (Ps 33:13-15 ASV)

Many people may wait for God and hope that He will be their help and their shield. They can trust Him and have good reason to have their heart to rejoice in Him, because they trust in That holy Name Which belongs to Only One. They can ask, like David did, to let His lovingkindness to be upon them, as they try to do their best to live according to the Law of God and wait for Him.

“20 Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: He is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, Because we have trusted in his holy name. 22 Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, According as we have hoped in thee.” (Ps 33:20-22 ASV)

“ But I have trusted in thy lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.” (Ps 13:5 ASV)

“ Jehovah is my strength and my shield; My heart hath trusted in him, and I am helped: Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; And with my song will I praise him.” (Ps 28:7 ASV)

“ And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine; yea, their children shall see it, and rejoice; their heart shall be glad in Jehovah.” (Zec 10:7 ASV)

“ And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.” (Joh 16:22 ASV)

“ Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am Jehovah your God.” (Nu 10:10 ASV)

“16  Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.” (1Th 5:16-18 ASV)
