“A Damaged and Wicked World”

(January 03)

Reading 1: Genesis 5-6;

From the void came everything into being by the divine Creator Speaking, His Word (the Logos) sounding over the space, making everything to happen like God wanted it to happen.

We saw how God created man in His own image.

On the day that God created man,[c] he made him in the likeness of God; he created them male and female. When they were created, he blessed them and called them mankind.[d] {Gen 5:1 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)}

At the beginning of times they were clean or without sin. But when they ignored the demand of God not to eat from the Tree of knowledge of good and evil, they came to know good and evil and made themselves weak by the act they had undertaken, to doubt the righteousness of God.

After they got expelled from the Royal Garden, the Garden of Eden, their paradise world was finished and they had to work to stay a life and underwent the hardships of life.

That Adam had a son in his own image after his likeness (Gen 5:3) contrasts starkly with the creation of Adam (Gen 1:26) who was in the likeness of the Elohim. Adams descendants are shown to be in his, and not Gods image and likeness. Now man came to be in man’s likeness and had to be aware of his limitation and mortality. This is the simple explanation for death which comes to those who have not sinned after the similitude of Adams transgression (Romans 5:14)

God has given to man the free choice and allowed them to arrange their own life. You would think that after what happened to their parents they should know better how to behave.

For man it seemed difficult to stay on the right path and to live according God’s Wishes. Lots of people choose not to live according the Wish of God. The Book of Genesis shows us how man choose to do wrong. Even the big hero’s in the Bible have moments of weakness and have moments that they did not listen to God.

Adam and Eve had learned that God punishes those who sin. From family unto family people told what happened to their forefathers and kept a family register or a genealogical register. By those listings in the Word of God we come to know that they mean something for God. Each person is important for God. He calls them by their name and tells about their life.

It is surprising how quickly man forgot what God had done and how He provided for man.

Mankind was in a very sad state. It was so bad that every inclination of the thoughts of man’s heart was only evil all the time (Ge 6:5) There was so much ungodliness and so many people doing bad, that God had enough of it. Seeing how wicked people on earth had become He found they did not deserve to live on His planet. Jehovah God was so much grieved that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was filled with so much pain that He decided to wipe the wicked world out. (Gen 6:6)

The world became so bad that God had no other option than to destroy it.

Each person had had the choice to direct his way of life in the way he or she wanted to do or in the way God wanted it. They all contributed to the wicked state of the world. Though we come to see that Noah was the only one who was different because Noah “walked with God” rather than walking with the people of his world. He was influenced by God to righteousness and blamelessness.

Today we must take the message of the 6th chapter of Moses first book serious. When we look around us we should notice that the world has come in a similar state to Noah‘s time. In later books you shall see that it is said in the Holy Scriptures that it will be so before Jesus returns. The apostle Paul warned Jesus’ followers for it.

“Difficult Times Will Come”

But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear]. For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them. For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate morally weak and spiritually-dwarfed women weighed down by [the burden of their] sins, easily swayed by various impulses, {2 Timothy 3:1-6Amplified Bible (AMP)}

We should be warned. We can see many self-loving, money-loving, proud, arrogant, insulting, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, uncontrolled, brutal, hateful of good, traitorous, headstrong, swollen with conceit, loving pleasure rather than God, people without any feeling for God. We should know that it is better to stay away from such people!  For some of them worm their way into families and manage to darken the mind or to bring peoples heart far away from God.

God Warns Noah

These are the family records of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with wickedness.[a] 12 God saw how corrupt the earth was, for every creature had corrupted its way on the earth. 13 Then God said to Noah, “I have decided to put an end to every creature, for the earth is filled with wickedness[b] because of them; therefore I am going to destroy them along with the earth. {Genesis 6:9-13Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)}

Can God find you to be an approved person like he could find Noah having Jehovah His approval, being a man of integrity among the people of his time? Noah walked with God, though many would have told him to be of this world and to enjoy life like they did enjoy it. But Noah did not want to know about their evil lives and warned them that God had decided to put an end to all people because the earth was full of their violence.

God brought a destroying flood over the world. It would not be the last time God came to destroy wicked people. Because later we come to learn about “the days of Lotwhen people also did eat, drank, bought, sold, planted, build, all in ways like God did not want it.

28 It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot: People went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building. 29 But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 It will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed. {Luke 17:28-30Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)}

All those stories, how terrible they may look, we should take at heart, because they are given to us to learn from it. We can ignore them or be deaf for them. Or we can make our conclusions and direct our ways in a different manner than the majority of the population.
