“And {1} the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. {1) Heb [the escaped of the house of Judah that remain]}” (Isaiah 37:31 ASV)

“3  The voice of one {1} that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God. {1) Or [that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way etc]} 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain: 5 and the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it. 6 The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field. 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:3-8 ASV)

“in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of the branches thereof shall they dwell.” (Ezekiel 17:23 ASV)

“Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: Behold, {1} he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. {1) Or [the isles are as the fine dust that is lifted up]}” (Isaiah 40:15 ASV)

“He that is too impoverished for [such] an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to {1} set up a graven image, that shall not be moved. {1) Or [prepare]}” (Isaiah 40:20 ASV)

“26 Lift up your eyes on high, {1} and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking. {1) Or [and see: who hath created these? he that etc]} 27  Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice [due] to me is passed away from my God? 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? {1} The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding. {1) Or [Jehovah is an everlasting God, the Creator…he fainteth not etc]} 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 but they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:26-31 ASV)

“3 For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, {1} The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. {1) Isa 40:3} 4 Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan; 6 and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 7  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming {1} to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? {1) Or [for baptism]} 8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of {1} repentance: {1) Or [your repentance]} 9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10 And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you {1} in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not {2} worthy to bear: he shall baptize you {1} in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: {1) Or [with] 2) Gr [sufficient]} 12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. 13  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer {1} [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him. {1) Or [me]} 16 And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened {1} unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; {1) Some ancient authorities omit [unto him]} 17 and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, {1} This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. {1) Or [This is my Son; my beloved in whom I am well pleased.] See Mt 12:18}” (Matthew 3:3-17 ASV)

“15  And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; 16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not {1} worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you {2} in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: {1) Gr [sufficient] 2) Or [with]} 17 whose fan is in his hand, thoroughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. 18 With many other exhortations therefore preached he {1} good tidings unto the people; {1) Or [the gospel]}” (Luke 3:15-18 ASV)

“18 Many also of them that had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds. 19 And not a few of them that practised magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of the Lord and prevailed.” (Acts 19:18-20 ASV)

“2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein {1} is my Father glorified, {2} that ye bear much fruit; and [so] shall ye be my disciples. {1) Or [was] 2) Many ancient authorities read [that ye bear much fruit, and be my disciples]}” (John 15:2-8 ASV)

“4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, [even] to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the {1} sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. {1) Gr [passions of sins]}” (Romans 7:4-5 ASV)

“8 It was planted in a good {1} soil by {2} many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine. {1) Heb [field] 2) Or [great]} 9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or much people can it be raised from the roots thereof.” (Ezekiel 17:8-9 ASV)

“2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let {1} the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. {1) Or [the sacrificers of men]} 3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. 4 Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou {1} shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour. {1) Or [knowest]}
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. 6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me. 7 Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; 8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them.
9  {1} It is thy destruction, O Israel, {2} that [thou art] against me, against thy help. {1) Or [Thou art destroyed, O Israel; for] thou [etc] 2) Or [for in me, in thy help]; Or [but in me is thy help]}” (Hosea 13:2-9 ASV)
