Today’s thought “God has come to test you …” (February 10) Exodus 19 + 20 We read today in great detail of the arrival of the people of Israel at Mount Sinai on “the third new moon” (Exodus 19:1). For the great mass of people with their flocks and herds, it had been a testing… Read More Today’s thought “God has come to test you …” (February 10)

Additional thought for today 2 February: Transformed Christians Let evil not defeat you

In the first letter of Paul to the Romans the apostle argued that Gentiles are futile in their thinking and ignorant of the way things really are. Qualifications of a Presiding Brother

When going to form an ecclesia one has to select people to be in charge of it or taking care of the working and good order of the ecclesial work. It’s important that a church leader will be working as a good house-steward, responsible for the affairs in God’s house, be looked up to — not pushy or arrogant, not short-tempered, not given to a lot of wine, not a bully or violent, not money-hungry or fond of dishonest gain, but rather, hospitable, a lover of goodness, sound of mind, just, holy, self-controlled, holding to that teaching in harmony with the faithful Word, also that he may be strong enough and have enough knowledge (and perhaps also experience) to exhort by that healthy teaching and reprove those who are opposing.

Today’s thought “I never knew you” (January 5)

Today’s thought “I never knew you” (January 5) There are some really challenging sayings of Jesus in the first twenty-seven verses of Matthew 7 today. Today’s thought “Unceasing evil” (December 11)

Unceasing evil The above two words are the last words in the short prophecy of Nahum we read this morning. His three chapters are “an oracle concerning Nineveh” (1:1). Today we began reading the prophet Nahum and his “oracle concerning Nineveh”. This city and nation (Assyria) was the great power of that earlier generation before Babylon became great. Remarkably it had repented at the preaching of Jonah and we reason that there was still some awe of Israel’s God at that time – flowing… Read More Today’s thought “Slow to anger and great in power” (December 10)

Today’s thought “Look you scoffers” (November 3)

Today’s thought > “Look you scoffers” (November 3) Today we read how the missionary work of the dramatically converted Paul began in earnest. He warns them, “Beware, therefore lest what is said in the… Read More Today’s thought “Look you scoffers” (November 3)
