We find ourselves in a new year, where we still have to face the Coronavirus and find some additional crisis, like the economic and energy crisis as well as the tribulation crisis in Ukraine, Belarus, and Poland.

We could say that everything is old-fashioned, but if we are positive about it, we could also say that we should refresh everything.

Also for ourselves, we could do with some overturning. We most definitely need the refresh of our sins being blotted out. Just as definitely, we need the refresh of restoration at the coming of our Lord.

Brother Paul came across a strange thing, looking at various translations of Acts 3:19-20, the translations breaking the verses in a different way.

What he was interested in was the content of the verses, specifically the phrase that is placed differently: “…that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…”. For him “refreshing” sounds great, and he’d like some! And in particular this refreshing. We should bring in the rest of the sentence, in the next verse:

19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
