Today’s thought “Latter glory of the house of God shall be greater than the former” (December 18)

Leningrad Codex (AD. 1008) contains the complete copy of Book of Haggai in Hebrew.

On the 21st day of the 7th month (Av = July-August), the prophet Haggai gave a second message from the Eternal. (Haggai 2:1)

He asked about Zerubbabel (Shealtiel’s son and Judah’s governor), Joshua (Jehozadak’s son and the high priest), and all those who returned from exile, or any of them still living who saw how glorious God’s first house was before it was destroyed more than 60 years ago. (Haggai 2:2-3)

Haggai told not to be discouraged. He asked Zerubbabel and Joshua to be strong, as well as all those who once again lived in the land. Haggai brought the message of the Most High God, the Elohim Hashem Jehovah, to keep working on it. For He, the Eternal Spirit Adonai, Commander of heavenly armies, was with them. God was with His people regarding the covenant He made with them, when their ancestors came out of Egypt. God promised once more that His Spirit remains with them Whom He has chosen. They had to know He, the Most High Almighty, God above all gods, was living among them and still lives among them now. Therefore, they, as we do, had not to be afraid. (Haggai 2:4-5)

The Prophet talks also about something in the future

What the Lord Most High, Host of hosts, lets the prophet say is also something we should take at heart. Haggai brings a warning that one day Jehovah God once more will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens, the sea, and the land. All people have to know that the Divine Creator of heaven and earth will rattle all the nations. They shall have to come to see, that all that is valuable in the eyes of the world, will be willingly brought to God His House. He will see to it that it is filled to the brim with His glory.

“ For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; and I will shake all nations; and {1 } the precious things of all nations shall come; and I will fill this house with glory, saith Jehovah of hosts. {1) Or the things desired (Heb desire) of all nations shall come } (Hag 2:6-7 ASV)

People shall have to know that many will stand by and watch as the magnificence of this new house will eclipse the magnificence of the Elohim His first House. God proclaims peace will come upon the Jews, a peace not only for Israel but for all believers in the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6–7). The Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, told Haggai in the second year that Darius was king, that the new temple will be more beautiful than the first one was and in this place it shall be the Most High God, the Lord who rules over all, will give peace. (Haggai 2:9)

From the final message from Jehovah which came to Haggai (also came on the 24th day of the ninth month = Tishrei  or September-October) we may come to know that what was spoken to Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah concerning times to come, is something we should take serious. Like the People of God in ancient times had to listen to God and be acknowledged with His sayings, we also should take heed about God going to shake the heavens and the earth and throwing down royal thrones. God warns by the voice of the prophet Haggai that He will smash the power of other kingdoms. At that time it was said He, the God of gods, will destroy chariots and their drivers and that horses and their riders will fall. They will be killed by the swords of their relatives. (Haggai 2:20-22)

Let us be prepared (“and very well oiled”) to see the signs of the times.

“ And he shall {1 } go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him. {1) Some ancient authorities read come nigh before his face } (Lu 1:17 ASV)

“ They all handle the sword, and are expert in war: Every man hath his sword upon his thigh, Because of fear in the night.” (So 3:8 ASV)

“ The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,” (Mt 22:2 ASV)

“ What if God, {1 } willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction: {1) Or although willing } {1 } and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory, {1) Some ancient authorities omit and } (Ro 9:22-23 ASV)

We should not hesitate to prepare others around us as well, so that they shall be able to see the signs of times to come, the latter or last days (the end times), and shall be ready for those troublesome times, in fear of the Lord but not in fear of man.

“ preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; {1 } reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. {1) Or bring to the proof } (2Ti 4:2 ASV)

“ So the church throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being {1 } edified; and, walking {2 } in the fear of the Lord and {2 } in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was multiplied. {1) Gr builded up 2) Or by } (Ac 9:31 ASV)

“ preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, none forbidding him.” (Ac 28:31 ASV)

For all people shall have to come to know all those kingdoms, empires and many governments shall be nothing against the government of Christ Jesus, the anointed king above them all. He shall bring with his kingdom the Kingdom of God, which is a kingdom of no suffering and peace for ever.

Even if we have to wait patiently, we may have the assurance by God His Word. We also may look forward to a time that the only begotten son of God, after that time of trouble, shall come back to earth to judge the living and the dead, and that he shall allow the righteous ones to enter the small gate into the Kingdom of God where they shall not have to have any fear or pain any more.
