Today’s thought “What sorrow awaits rebellious people” (December 17)

Yesterday we read how all were required to gather together, even the shameful nation, before the decree of God takes effect and that day passes like windblown chaff, before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon us, before the day of the Lord’s wrath comes upon you. (Zephania 2:1-2)

By the prophecy of Zephania and other prophets, like Isaiah and Jesus, we are called to seek the Lord of lords, the Most High God above all gods. All the humble of the land might do what God commands and seek righteousness, seek humility and perhaps they will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. (Zephania 2:3)

From the Hebrew Scriptures we learn that the Hashem HaElohim, His Shem or the Name of God should be known and glorified all over the world and how people should come to recognize Him as the Only One True God, God above all gods, having no one equal, next or above Him.

Nobody shall be able to escape the day that This Most High Unseen eternal Spirit God is going to gather all people, the ones who believe in Him, have reverence or profound awe for Him and fear Him, but also those who ignore Him. For those who will accept musar (correction, instruction) their dwelling place should perhaps not be cut off, despite everything for which God punished them. All those who have faith in God just have to show patience. God asks them to wait upon Him until the Day of clouds and thick darkness, that He rises up for a witness shall be there. For the God of Israel shall not only call His Chosen people, but His determination is also to gather the Goyim, to pour upon them His indignation, and to show His hot anger and frustration. (Zephaniah 3:8)

The real followers, who had been scattered to faraway places as distant as Ethiopia’s rivers,
will come back to worship the Only One True God with pure offerings.

When that day comes, those true followers of Jehovah God, who have a pure language and live according the Word of God, won’t feel embarrassed and ashamed anymore over all the rebellious things they did in the past, because they know that the Most Highest has given the world His only begotten son and has taken his sacrificial offering as a ransom or payment for their sins. From that day the people of God shall be able to find peace, because God will remove the proud and arrogant among them. Arrogance and pride will never again be tolerated in God’s holy mountain. (Zephaniah 3:9-10)

Hashem the Adonai our God living in the midst of us (being gibbor) will save, rejoice over us with simchah; and will say to the faithful no to be afraid and to be united, holding their head and hands high, taking courage. He will quiet us in His love and will joy over us with singing. Because at that day the Eternal their (and our) God shall be standing right here among us, and He everyone shall have to recognisze that He is the champion who will rescue us.
He will joyfully celebrate over us and will rest in His love for us who love Him and His commandments. (Zephaniah 3:16-17)

It shall not be a very peaceful period going up to that day. There shall even be reason to mourn. Though also those who have been laughed at for their faith in the Only One God and who were assaulted, shall see the Avenger God will deal with those who assaulted them. Jehovah God will steady those who are lame and about to fall and gather those who are outcasts and oppressed.
Instead of being filled with shame as they always have been, Jehovah God will fill them with praise and make them famous over all the world.

18 [a]I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assembly, who were of thee; to whom the burden upon [b]her was a reproach. 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save that which is lame, and gather that which was driven away; and I will make them a praise and a name, whose shame hath been in all the earth. (Zephaniah 3:18-19 ASV)

Let us make sure that we can belong to those who shall be gathered on the right side of God for the mo’ed (time of the feast), the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. We shall have to go through that horrible time of trial where there shall also be no regret for that kind of sorrow people shall show. All, at that time, shall come to see and understand that  worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. [see 2 Corinthians 7:10]. When those days come closer we should not be so sad. Also, those who have been in exile or in places where they were unable to keep the appointed feasts or could not worship Jehovah God in the appointed place, should not be weeping any more. They will not be disgraced any more.
Jehovah will gather those who’ve shamed Zion and take care of them. (Zephaniah 3:18)

But do not just life if nothing happens or if you should not worry. Always keep watching! At the right time, Jehovah God, shall bring His sent one as a thief in the night to gather all of us together for one big homecoming.
We should be ready for the Day that God makes His People famous, and all the world will sing His praises. (Zephaniah 3:20)
