As the United Kingdom embarks on a General Election campaign, the issue of anti-Semitism has once again come to the fore, particularly in relation to the main opposition party – Labour – under its current leadership. Recently, a front page editorial in the Jewish Chronicle appealed to the electorate not to support this party, accusing its leader, Jeremy Corbyn, of having “allied with and supported anti-Semites” throughout his political career. The editorial also drew attention to a recent poll suggesting that many Jews would seriously consider emigrating if he became Prime Minister.
Another article, published at the end of last month in Israel Today, turned to the issue of anti-Semitism in the USA. An extensive survey conducted by the American Jewish Committee a year after the Pittsburgh attack which killed eleven worshippers in a synagogue, revealed that
“85 per cent of American Jews feel that anti-Semitism in the US is on the increase and a full third are afraid to show signs of being Jewish in public … Many said that ‘it is no longer comfortable being Jewish’” (October 29).
As Jews, even in traditionally ‘friendly’ countries, feel increasingly uncomfortable and isolated, they are gradually being drawn back to the land of their fathers, in fulfilment of Bible prophecy.
