The son of man given authority by God

Mankind has received the Word of God in which we can find words of many prophets, a.o. also of the son of man called Jeshua ben Joseph the ben ha-Elohim or son of God.

That son of man born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth and went out preaching about his heavenly Father, the God of Israel, Who is an Eternal Spirit no man can see. That God had given him authority to speak and act in His Name.

All people on earth should come to know that the Nazarene master teacher has received the power or right to persuade individuals or groups to obey precepts or recommendations. Jesus his authority operates on the ground of an appeal to individual conscience, with the understanding that deviation from what is acceptable to the community, in faith or morals, may entail exclusion or spiritual censure. God has given all freedom to the people in the world. Therefore each individual has to choose which authority he wishes to accepts.

Jesus showed full obedience to his heavenly Father and demands the same obedience from us. There enters our faith in him (or not) into the primary act of believing which submits to divine grace and revelation.

From the New Testament we learn that Jesus is the sent one from God who has received full authority from That God. We also learn we should come under him, so that we might become heirs through Christ.

4 but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, who came of a woman, and under law, 5 that he might redeem those under law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth his Son’s spirit into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Therefore thou art no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

From the writings of the apostles we learn how Jesus calls God his own Father The idea of God having “sons” appears within the OT. Spiritual beings are called “sons of God” (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7; Pss 82:6; 89:6). Also, Israel is described as God’s son (Exod 4:23), as is Israel’s king (Psa 2:7). The offence of Jesus’ claim must be the allusion that Joseph was not His actual father but that he had divine parentage, which would be totally blasphemous in the eyes of the Pharisees.. Those who had stood by the river Jordan when Jesus got baptised by his cousin did not hear that for the first time.

21 Now while all the people were being baptized, [Sept. The discourse in John 5:19–47 focuses on the person and authority of Jesus. This passage is the clearest summary of Jesus’ relationship with the Father, His position as judge of all things, and the witnesses to his mission as Messiah found in the Messianic Writings or New Testament.

When Jesus says

“Verily verily” or “Truly, truly”

he uses a common expression or a traditional saying functioning to emphasize the importance of what is about to be said. Jesus never claimed to be God or to be mightier than God. For those who claim that Jesus is God, they should better listen more carefully to Jesus his words that he as the son of God can do nothing from himself. Jesus asserts his dependence on the Father who Jesus declares to be greater than himself.

28 Ye have heard how I said to you, I go away, and will come to you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice that I go to the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

In case Jesus would be God he too would be as great as God and be the greatest of all. From the gospels people should come to know who Jesus really is, as well as see how his distinct role is subordinate to the Father’s will and plan. It is impossible for Jesus to act in any way that would somehow place him in opposition to the Father.

From Jesus his sayings, written down by his disciples, we come to know that the son (Jesus Christ) makes alive whomever he wishes. Jesus claims delegated authority over life and death; this authority is given to him, not by himself, but by the Father in heaven, the Only One True God Who is One.

Those who claim that only God can save, forgive sins and judge do forget that it always is and shall be, God Who gives salvation; because without Him and without Him accepting the ransom made by Christ Jesus there would be no salvation.
The Old Testament depicts Jehovah as the Judge of all peoples (Isa 41:1; 51:5; Jer 25:15–38) but sometimes foreshadows the transferal of that role to the Messiah (Isa 11:3; 16:5).

5 My righteousness is at hand; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the peoples; the isles shall wait upon me, and for mine arm shall they hope.

With the return of Jesus that son of man shall bring the righteousness of God.

30 And do thou prophesy against them all these words, and say to them, Jehovah shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar over his sheepfold; he shall raise a shout, as of men treading [grapes], against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31 The noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword; Jehovah hath said it.

Jehovah shall sit in order to judge all the nations, but having given authority to his son he allows him to judge the living and the dead. Already at the announcement by the angel concerning Jesus his birth it was said that Jehovah God was going to give him the throne of David his father, and that there was not going to be end of his kingdom.

31 And behold, thou wilt conceive in thy womb, and wilt bear a son, and call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called a son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him his father David’s throne. 33 And he will reign over the house of Jacob for ages; and of his kingdom there will be no end.’

Jesus would be permanent heir of the Davidic kingship, as being promised in ancient times where God also declared that He would establish the throne in His Kingdom for His son.

12 For when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a House for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. Jesus would rule from heaven, for David said:

1 Jehovah has said to my Lord [David],

Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies;

Jesus did not rule as King while a human. (John 18:33-37) In 33 C.E., he died, was resurrected, and ascended to heaven. Hebrews 10:12 says:

12 But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins, for the future sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting after this till his enemies were made a footstool for his feet.

This man who offered himself as a sacrifice for sins, having paid the ransom to his heavenly Father, now has come to sit down at the right hand of God. Jesus authority goes far beyond or far above every government and authority and power and lordship, him being made head by God, over all things to the congregation.

20 which he wrought by Christ, when he raised him from the dead and placed him on his right hand above the heavens, 21 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come; 22 and he put all things under his feet, and gave him as a head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fulness of Him who filleth all in all.

Because Jesus then had kingly authority over Christians, Paul could write that Jehovah would bring light over us, removing the ones who accept Jesus as His son into the kingdom of His son.

13 And He delivered us from the power of darkness, and removed us into the kingdom of the Son of his love; 14 by means of whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins;

To be taken out of the darkness we need to have faith in the sent one. Without faith it is impossible to please Jesus nor God. The one who received authority from God is the way to God. He is the door or gate to come to God. Jesus is not only the door but also the one showing the narrow gate to the Kingdom. Without him mankind shall not be able to enter it, for coming to his heavenly Father. Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that seek him.

We should observe the sent and Chief Priest of our assent, Christ Jesus (Hebrews 3:1); believe his words and put hope in his acts and in the authority God has given him. It is he who would be coming to judge the living and the dead.

We know the son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true.

Real Christians should believe him, follow his teachings and worship the same God as he worship, namely the unseen God of Israel. They should give preference to the Biblical teachings instead following human teachings and certainly not following false human doctrines like the one of the Trinity.

Jesus choose some man to go with him on his preaching journeys. Those talmidim were called “apostles”. For the short time they could be with him (three years) they at first came to see him as some one who was going to clear their nation of the Romans. Already early in his public life Jesus showed them how he was preferring a gentle way and was going to bring peace. When Jesus knew his time had come to leave them, he had to take a lengthy amount of time explaining to them who he really was. When he completed his explanation, he was curious if they came to realise what it meant and how important his position was. He posed a question to them,

“Do you now believe?”

Let us take the words of the Bible seriously:

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth in him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.

Christadelphians believe Jesus is the only begotten beloved son of God, like God declared him so. We also believe that son of man has received authority from God, his heavenly Father. We trust God and trust His son, him being the way to God and to salvation. That are the things every Christian should believe. Jesus does not demand to believe human doctrines. The opposite, he demands us to keep to the Word of God Who declares Himself to be a Spirit Who is One and should be the only One to be worshipped.

7 For your eyes have seen all the great deeds of Jehovah which he did. 8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commands which I command you this day, so that ye may be strong, and may go in and possess the land, whither ye are passing over [the Jordan] to possess it; 9 and so that ye may prolong your days in the land, of which Jehovah sware to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

It is not Jesus we do have to worship as a god nor as God, but his heavenly Father, Who is the Only One True God.

Those who make Jesus into their god, make graven images of him and of so called holy men and women, called saints, act against God His commandments and bring dishonour to the Name of God. they better listen to what God has to say about such people.

4 Thou shalt not make to thee a graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in the heavens above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them. For I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 and showing kindness unto the thousandth of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

When we want to call ourselves “Christian” we should be careful that we do not forget the Most High Father of Jesus and do not put him in the corner by going to worship Jesus as God. At all times, even when we believe in Jesus to be the son of man and son of God, we have to keep fearing That heavenly Father of Jesus, Who is the unseen Eternal Spirit Being, God above all gods. Accepting Jesus as our saviour we should give honour and thanks to his heavenly Father Who accepted his ransom. At all times it is That Most High God, Who we have to serve. Though many shall try to bring us and you on other ideas, getting to pray to other gods and saints, we may not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around us and around you. Even when they come up with stories that you and we would burn in a torture place they call hell. They may make God in merciless father who would hurt his children forever, but the god we do have to worship is a God of love and not a god of cruelty.

Though we may not forget that Jehovah the Most High Lord above all lords, is our God, Who is among you and us, is a jealous God Who is not afraid to show His anger. He shall not let you suffer in a time without an end, but there shall come a time that those who have worshipped other gods He will destroy them from the face of the land.

We may be tempted with all lovely stories of how those gods and saints helped others, but we should know they can do nothing more than the Only True God. Therefore we should not put Jehovah God to the test as so many people have done already in the past. At all times we must make sure to keep the commands of Jehovah as the most just regulations, stipulations and decrees.

Let us be very careful not to step in the trap of those who want to bring you away from that son of man who is the way to God (and not to himself in case he would be God), but remember and follow him that put his own will aside to do the Will of his heavenly Father Whom Jesus worshipped as his God and Who we too should worship as our God.

Let us and let you do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord. Come to see the door which Jesus opened for you and enter into the small gate, so that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and shall be able to enter that promised good land that Jehovah swore to give to our ancient fathers by thrusting out all our enemies from before us, as Jehovah has promised.

12 then beware lest thou forget Jehovah, who brought thee forth out of the land of Lower Egypt; from the house of bondage. 13 Thou shalt fear Jehovah thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. 14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you; 15 (for Jehovah thy God is a jealous God among you;) lest the anger of Jehovah thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
