Who do you say Jesus is

When Jesus walked around, there were many opinions going on about who he was and with what right he spoke. People compared him to John, Elijah, Jeremiah, or other prophets.

Matthew 16:13-15 (TS2009)
13 Now when יהושע {Jeshua} came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His taught ones, saying,

“Who do men say the Son of Aḏam is?”

14 And they said,

“Some say Yoḥanan the Immerser, and others Ěliyahu, and others Yirmeyahu or one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “And you, who do you say I am?”

In the gospel of Matthew we hear Simon Barjona or Simon Peter answering that this son of man and miracle worker is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Matthew 16:16-17 (TS2009)
16 And Shim‛on Kĕpha answering, said,

“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim.” (a Footnote: aThis is repeated in eight more places.)

17 And יהושע answering, said to him,

“Blessed are you, Shim‛on Bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in the heavens.

We hear also that it is by the Power of Jesus his heavenly Father, Who at Jesus his baptism declared Jesus His only begotten son.

Matthew 3:16-17 (TS2009)
16 And having been immersed, יהושע went up immediately from the water, and see, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of Elohim descending like a dove and coming upon Him, 17 and see, a voice out of the heavens, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight.”

The Spirit “brooding” on the surface of the waters (Gen 1:2) gave His infallible Word of Truth (Tit 1:2), because God is a god Who does not tell lies letting the world know that man of flesh and blood standing in the water to be His son. The voice from heaven identified Jesus as the “prophet like unto Moses” (Deu 18:15-19), on whom God His pleasure rests. (Cp Isa 42:1) .

The Father’s announcement, by combining a quote concerning the Davidic Messiah with one concerning the Servant of the Most High (see Ps 2:7; Isa 42:1), gave an indication that Jesus’ way to kingly glory was to be that of the suffering servant. In appointing Jesus to his public ministry, the Father poured out upon him the Holy Spirit, through whose power he would carry out his messianic work (Matt 3:16-17; cf. Isa 11:1-2; 61:1; Acts 10:37-38).

Acts 10:37-38 (TS2009)
37 “You know what word came to be throughout all Yehuḏah, beginning from Galil after the immersion which Yoḥanan proclaimed: 38 how Elohim did anoint יהושע of Natsareth with the Set-apart Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for Elohim was with Him.

Even after he had done already several miracles, telling people it was not him doing those things by his own power, but doing it by the Power of the One Who is greater than him, the Sadducees and Pharisees asked Jesus to give a sign from heaven.

Matthew 16:1 (TS2009)

Matthew 16
1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.

John 5:17 (TS2009)
17 But יהושע answered them, “My Father works until now, and I work.”

John 5:19-23 (TS2009)
19 Therefore יהושע responded and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is able to do none at all by Himself, but only that which He sees the Father doing, because whatever He does, the Son also likewise does. 20 “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all that He Himself does. And greater works than these He is going to show Him, in order that you marvel. 21 “For as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, even so the Son makes alive whom He wishes. 22 “For the Father judges no one, but has given all the judgment to the Son, 23 that all should value the Son even as they value the Father. He who does not value the Son does not value the Father who sent Him.

Honouring the son does not mean worshipping the son as a god son, but means to recognise him as the sent one of God the Father. We are given a signal that those who reject the son dishonour God, but those who receive the son pass immediately from spiritual death to spiritual life (John 5:20b-24).

John 5:25-29 (TS2009)
25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Elohim. And those having heard shall live. 26 “For as the Father possesses life in Himself, so He gave also to the Son to possess life in Himself, 27 and He has given Him authority also to do judgment, because He is the Son of Aḏam. 28 “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the tombs shall hear His voice, 29 and shall come forth – those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have practised evil matters, to a resurrection of judgment.

More than once Jesus let those around him know that what he told and what he did was something he was not able to say and do from himself. He also let them know that he did not seek to do his own will but the will of the Father who sent him.

John 5:30-31 (TS2009)
30 “Of Myself I am unable to do any matter. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own desire, but the desire of the Father who sent Me. 31 “If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.

But we should know that Jesus his witness or his words were true.

John 8:38-46 (TS2009)
38 “I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.” 39 They answered and said to Him, “Aḇraham is our father.”c יהושע said to them, “If you were Aḇraham’s children, you would do the works of Aḇraham. Footnote: cSee footnote Mat 3:9, Rom 9:8. 40 “But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has spoken to you the truth which I heard from Elohim. Aḇraham did not do this. 41 “You do the works of your father.” Then they said to Him, “We were not born of whoring, we have one Father: Elohim.” 42 יהושע said to them, “If Elohim were your Father, you would love Me, for I came forth from Elohim, and am here. For I have not come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 “Why do you not know what I say? Because you are unable to hear My Word. 44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you wish to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 “And because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 “Who of you proves Me wrong concerning sin? And if I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me?

Today we still have a lot of pepole who do not believe the words of Jesus nor the words of his heavenly Father. The majority of of those who want to call themselves Christian do prefer to call Jesus God or god the son, instead of the son of God (something totally different). It seems they do not want to hear the truth for which Jesus came unto earth.

John 18:37 (TS2009)
37 Then Pilate said to Him, “You are a sovereign, then?” יהושע answered, “You say it, because I am a sovereign. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Even Saul later came to see that Jesus gave a complete and confident witness to the greatest Gentile power on earth (1Ti 6:13).

1 Timothy 6:13-16 (TS2009)
13 In the sight of Elohim who gives life to all, and of Messiah יהושע who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, I charge you: 14 that you guard the commandb spotlessly, blamelessly, until the appearing of our Master יהושע Messiah, Footnote: bCommand (singular) often means commands, e.g. Deu 17:20, Psa 19:8. 15 which in His own seasons He shall reveal – the blessed and only Ruler, the Sovereign of sovereigns and Master of masters, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or is able to see, to whom be respect and everlasting might. Amĕn.

Christ Jesus stood in the presence of the alien lords such as Pontius Pilate and confessed boldly the same faith as we should do, who followed the same course first, as our example. We should recognise that to this end Jesus was born, and for this cause he came into the world, that he would bear witness unto the truth (Joh 18:37).

We also should remember the occasion that Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There on that mountain Jesus was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun and his garments became white as the light.  there too there was a voice that came out of the cloud, saying again that this son of man was the beloved son, in whom God was well pleased.

Matthew 17:1-5 (TS2009)

Matthew 17
1 And after six days יהושע took Kĕpha, and Ya‛aqoḇ, and Yoḥanan his brother, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves, 2 and He was transformed before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as the light. 3 And see, Mosheh and Ěliyahu appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 And Kĕpha answering, said to יהושע,

“Master, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, let us make here three booths: one for You, one for Mosheh, and one for Ěliyahu.” (See footnote Mar 9:4).

5 While he was still speaking, see, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And see, a voice came out of the cloud, saying,

“This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight. Hear Him!”

Are you hearing the voice of that son of God? Are you accepting that Jesus is the son of God? Or are you clinging on human doctrines and preferring to worship Jesus as your god instead of worshipping the God of Jesus, who is the God of Abraham, as your God?

Are you willing to learn from that Nazarene man who was meek and humble in heart, who confessed to his heavenly Father, and are you willing to follow him?

Matthew 11:25-30 (TS2009)
25 At that time יהושע responding, said,

“I thank You, Father, Master of the heavens and earth, because You have hidden these matters from clever and learned ones and have revealed them to babes.c Footnote: cLuk 10:21. 26 “Yes, Father, because so it was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27 “All have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him. 28 “Come to Me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I shall give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings.d Footnote: dJer 6:16. 30 “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”
