Jeannie Barton RN RM CHN DipC, Director, Loanialu Health Clinic and her husband on behalf of The Loanialu Health Clinic Brother Warren and Sister Jeannie Barton from Queensland Australia, have established a health clinic in a remote area. This Clinic is located on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean called Tanna. It is part of Vanuatu. It has an active volcano spewing forth ash on a regular basis, making the lives of the inhabitants (who are very poor), difficult as ash gets on everything and causes serious health problems. There is an ecclesia of about 20, on Tanna.
The clinic there is run by a young sister who is a trained nurse’s aid but she virtually does the work of a doctor or nurse. She looks after the health of many of the island’s inhabitants from a metal shed without electricity, running water, lights and windows and ash proofing. This building is unsatisfactory as conditions are harsh on the island, with constant rusting problems and cyclonic winds wreaking havoc on the building.
Plans for the expansion of health services are completed, and we would be very grateful for any financial support that the Brotherhood could supply.
