Today’s thought “Killing and eating” (January 05)

Today’s thought

“Man allowed to eat meat”

&

“God will hold those accountable if they kill man”

(January 5)

After the Divine Creator blessed Noah and his sons He asked them to have children so that once more there would be come many of them to fill the earth. But this time all the land, water and air animals were going to be afraid of man.

I will require the life of every animal and every man for your life and your blood. I will require the life of each man’s brother for a man’s life.

Whoever sheds man’s blood,
his blood will be shed by man,
for God made man in His image.

But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it.” {Genesis 9:5-7Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)}

Man had behaved badly and God knew what went in man’s mind and how he would love to eat certain animals. Therefore there was enough reason for animals to be afraid of man.

Every living thing was again put under man’s control. Everything that lives and moves about would be as food for man. We come to hear that first God had already given man the green plants for food. Now He gave them also the allowance to eat meat.

Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.

God also gave a sign of a covenant between Him and the earth. There still would be times God would bring clouds over the earth and there would be rain, but now too there would be a rainbow in the sky to remember God His covenant between Him and man and every kind of living creature. He promised that the waters will never again become a flood to destroy all life.

12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: 13 I have placed My bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember My covenant between Me and you and all the living creatures:[a] water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. 16 The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all the living creatures[b] on earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have confirmed between Me and every creature on earth.”

Knowing that the earth shall not be destroyed in its totality we may not forget that the rain shall still fall and floods shall still come. Also there shall still be winds blowing and beating against us, in the literal as well in the figurative sense. (Today’s other reading – Matthew 7) Therefore we should be strong in our faith, no stupid (foolish) people who built their house upon the sand.

25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!” {Matthew 7:25-27Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)}
