“A New Year”
(January 01)
Happy New Year
On the first day of the year we welcome you at our pages and invite you to follow us into the New Year.
Over 100 years ago Robert Roberts of the Christadelphians developed a Bible Reading Plan which most Christadelphians follow and call it their Bible Companion. There is nothing special at all about this plan. It is simply a method by which you can be sure that by the end of a year, you have read the whole of the Bible, Old Testament once and New Testament twice. The plan starts on January 1st in Genesis, Psalms and Matthew and works its way through the scriptures as the year goes along providing around 4 chapters per day.
This year we do plan to bring to you some regular thoughts on those Bible Readings. To make it easy for you to follow on which chapter of the Bible we are bringing the thought it would be best you acquire also such a Bible companion or Bible Reading Plan. It is available as a 2-page PDF document or you may obtain this reading plan on three laminated bookmarks (please visit our Bible Study Aides page for this). To get your own laminated Bible Reading Planner or to follow our Correspondence Study Course consisting of nine, in-depth lessons on important Bible topics, you can fill in the request form: Bible Study Aides Order.
For some like us, every year seems to go faster than the previous one. One minute ago the calendar of 2017 was exchanged for the one of 2018 and touched glasses of champagne to toast for a good year. Each year again people wish each other the best of luck and plan a lot of good resolutions. We all have good intentions at the beginning of the New Year. But are we able to keep them?
We all are convinced we and those around us mean well. We appreciate it that everybody has good intentions, and would love to see those good wishes come true. Most often we know we also have to build at our character. We may regret some matters went wrong and could have gone in an other and better direction. Deep in our heart we also do know that to build ourselves up to a good person and to build ourselves up in our most holy faith we do need God’s inspired scriptures that are the only best source in our Godless world for doing so.
Facing the fact that people talk so much, promise so much, but that in these times not many keep their word. 2017 gave a shock letting us beware that lots of people do not even keep their hands where they should stay. the Big Monster of sexual intimidation kept fiercely whirling around. The brutes of this world were also not afraid to have their words come to the forefront. Perhaps to the surprise to them unexpectedly several women and men started to put their fear of talking away and the hashtag #MeToo went viral.
The past year we could see how this world keeps turning mad and how man keeps going further and further away from the good moral. Some are even not afraid to boast with their dirty manners.
2017 brought several hero’s back to zero, and once more it was also a year where certain so called Muslims misused the Islam religion to frighten people.
We on the first day of the year 2018 look now back at a world which was magnificent. Nothing was wrong and everybody could live in a Royal Garden if full peace (See Genesis 1). Centuries ago the man Job was inspired to write of God’s creation and describe how the Creator
“stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing … He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters …” (Job 26:7,10).
Job’s writings have come down to us from the earliest days of history and extended through the centuries when the prevailing
‘imagination of man was that the earth was flat: only in recent centuries did men realize the earth was some sort of “circle” and it was possible to sail around the earth.
Because of these ancient words, and many other reasons, we are able, as we read God’s word every day, to make constant progress.
Though we may live in an ungodly time, that makes it even far more important to come to take up that Book of books, the Bible, and to read it with more attention than we previously did.
Coming closer to the Last times we notice how scoffers, following their own ungodly passions, are trying to get people further away from the right path and away from the Divine Creator. Those who love the creation and in particular love the Maker of all, must be aware that we should work at ourselves to become worthy to meet Him. Lovers of God should also know that they have to build themselves up in their most holy faith.
