“Turning over the page”

(December 31)

On the last day of the civil year we want to close the book of the year with all the bad and good memories of the year. At the close of the 2017th year of the Common Era which has been designated as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development by the United Nations General Assembly w e may have been totally surprise that it was possible that Donald Trump got sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

It was the year that the UN warned that the world is facing the biggest humanitarian crisis since World War II, with up to 20 million people at risk of starvation and famine in Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan and Nigeria. The Christadelphian Meal a Day Fund and our missionary workers could only feel the shortness of means and bounds of possibilities.

In the period that several countries urged North Korea to halt its missile and nuclear programs after it successfully tested its first and several following intercontinental ballistic missiles(ICBM) a feeling of a coming closer war swept over the countries which were also hit by several terrorist attacks. It looked like the many sanctions brought to them by the UN and its allies did not bother their leader Kim Jong-un who showed his proud over the nuclear tests in his country. Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant continued it vicious wars and terrorist attacks. People should know they even killed already more Muslims than christians. They even continued to destroy mosques like the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, Iraq (June 21). A massive blast caused by a truck bombing in Mogadishu, Somalia killed at least 512 people and injured 316 others on October 14, three days before Raqqa was declared fully liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. On November 3 Deir ez-Zor in Syria and Al-Qa’im in Iraq followed to have the chains taken away from the terrorised Muslim people. In Sinai, Egypt ISIS attacked again a mosque killing 305 worshippers and leavings hundreds more wounded, on November 24.

2017 marks also the world’s largest non-nuclear weapon being dropped in the 2017 Nangarhar airstrike by the U.S. at an ISIL base in Afghanistan. (April 13)

Those shakings of the earth were complemented by several earthquakes and hurricanes like Hurricane Harvey which caused catastrophic damage to the Houston metropolitan area, mostly due to record-breaking floods. At least 90 deaths were recorded, and total damage reaches $198.6 billion (2017 USD), making Harvey the costliest natural disaster in United States history. The strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin outside the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane, September 610 hit the Caribbean and United States. One week later having an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 striking Central Mexico, killing 369 people and leaving thousands more homeless.

September 1920 Hurricane Maria again a a Category 5 hurricane came to strike similar areas as the previous hurricane, making landfall on Dominica and Puerto Rico being tempered to a category 4 hurricane. Maria caused at least 94 deaths and damages estimated in excess of $103 billion (2017 USD).

On November 12 a magnitude 7.3 earthquake stroked the border region between Iraq and Iran leaving at least 530 dead and over 70,000 homeless.

Having our hopes on the establishment of the Holy Land  and the Kingdom of God with Jerusalem as capital we are not sure how we could react to the idea of Donald Trump taking the right into his hand to declare Jerusalem as Israel‘s capital.

In any case once more we have seen that we are coming closer to special times of which the Bible speaks of a big battle to come. Therefore it is not bad that you start seriously thinking about your own future in this system of things. to help you having a look at the bible and to think about what is written there, we for 2018 have the intention to bring a regular ‘Thought of the day’. We do hope our messages in ‘Today’s thought’ shall come to bring you thinking about the many things around you and how it can be placed in a world to come as prophesied by many different men of God who wrote the words of their God in that Book of books we are going to present you in the coming year.

It would be nice if you and us could turn over the page, have a tabula rasa, and start with an opening to have spiritual food from the Bible and spiritual thoughts of Brethren in Christ who want to share that Word of God and the Good News of the Gospel with you. the world shall continue to spread bad news, so it shall be even more important to have the Good News reaching as many people as possible. Please do not hesitate to bring Good News in these times of bad news. You too can share with us the bringing of Good News by sharing our messages with others.

Let us not forget that how closer we come to the End Times how more important it is that the Good News of the coming Kingdom of God is being spread. By bringing the Word of God into the light of this dark world you are able to share the love that God has already shown us. And that love is something so big we should not hide it or keep for ourself.

Let us not forget Jesus Christ asked his followers to share the gospel with those who don’t know the truth wherever they may be. Today with internet at our feet, we have more capabilities to bring some Good News into the homes of many people spread over the earth, without having to go from door to door through rain and wind.

Let us not forget that by reading messages which can touch our heart and which can inspire us to think about God and about His wonderworks, that on the internet are facilities to share them with others. Please do make use of such share buttons and of social media to have those messages going viral (as a matter of speaking).

Stay with us, and if you are not following us, this is perhaps the moment to do so.
