Early in September the Christadelphian Samaritan Fund (CSF) made a donation of 5,000 pounds to an appeal by Oxfam to raise funds to relieve large scale food shortages in Malawi caused by prolonged drought. Oxfam report that 6.5 million people are facing hunger and starvation – more than the entire population of Scotland – and that the El Nino phenomenon and climate change have crippled the maize harvest, the countrys staple crop.

The Scottish government have committed to matching every pound up to 70,000 pounds donated until 31 October, which means that our 5,000 pounds is worth 10,000 pounds to the appeal. We know that even this amount is pitifully small in relation to the need, and we long for the time spoken of in Psalm 72 when:

*There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, on the top of the mountains; its fruit shall wave like Lebanon… (NKJV)*

Any ecclesia or individual wishing to contribute to this appeal may do so by making a donation to CSF. Please indicate that the donation is for the Malawi Food Crisis Matched Funding Appeal. Cheques should be made out to CSF and sent to David Ensell, Assistant Treasurer CSF, Westhaven House, Arleston Way, Shirley, Solihull, B90 4LH, or by bank transfer to account no. 60220760 sort code 20 77 62. Neville Moss (Secretary)
