Those who fear him

At the new website “Messiah for all” the focus shall be on the Messiah. But to come to understand the Messiah and the importance of his role for us, we do have to look at the beginning of the world, Who is behind it and what happened then and how fear came over man.

“… those who fear him”

(February 27)

Fear” as it occurs in God’s word often has the sense of being in awe of God. We have delightful and meaningful examples of this in today’s 103 Psalm.

“The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made his ways known to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel” (verses 6,7).

“His ways” as he made them known to Moses are a major example of his working righteousness and justice – it did not however, happen in a moment, we reflect on the lessons in Moses’ life. Then in verse 11 we read,

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him”.

Again in verse 13,

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him”.

This repetition reminded us of Solomon’s saying that “a threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12) for in verse 17 of our Psalm David for the third time states,

“the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him”.

All those who have established an ongoing relationship with the Lord, find that a heartfelt sense of awe permeates all their thoughts.

David sets the highest example (apart from that of Christ) of seeing the involvement of God in his life – and the Psalms illustrate this again and again. David demonstrates the reality of what Paul meant when he said to the Athenians about the “unknown” God, that “in him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

In Psalm 64 David says, prays, “Hear my voice O God … preserve my life from dread of the enemy” (verse 1). David had many enemies, his prayer was to be able to rise above any feelings of dread – and this – is the wonderful outcome of hearts truly being in awe of all we conceive God as being as we live and move and have our own being “in him”. And then, every day, we “feed” on his Son, remembering his Son’s words,

“I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he (or she) also will live because of me” (John 6:57).

The foundation to this is to “feed” on God’s word day by day.

  • The Psalter: Smartphone of the Soul (revisited) (gentlereformation.com)
God has given us the whole Scriptures for our aid. But, God created the human heart to respond in special ways to his word set to music. In song, the word of God penetrates the soul. In song, we experience union with Christ. In the throes of life – the crisis moments – it is words set to music that first come to mind. In those moments, we can’t always run to the desktop, but we should have the smartphone of soul embedded in our hearts.
  • Respecting The Most High In Words (prophecynewsandviews.wordpress.com)
It is not good to have a bible in one hand and have a cuss word coming out of the mouth. This tells me the fruits of the Spirit of the person that is teaching it, and it is also letting me know to back off. Cuss words destroy and that is not of God. We all should practice righteousness not unrighteousness  below are scriptures that would help one with this problem to Respect the Most High not only in Word but deed.
  • Turn My Eyes (4110fearnot.wordpress.com)
Moses had a very intimate relationship with God. Moses said to God, “Let me know your ways so I may understand You more fully” (Exodus 33:13b NLT). He desired to understand God—to truly know God. The Psalmist wrote that, “He (God) made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel” (103:7 NASB). God’s ways must be made known. Israel only knew God by His actions; Moses knew God more intimately. God spoke to Moses. Moses wanted to hear Him, wanted to listen and obey.
  • Nothing is Impossible for God (dailybibleplan.com)
It is easy for us to look back at the Israelites complaining or on Moses doubt and just shake our heads.  It seems unfathomable to us that the Israelites could complain about the free food they were provided every single day, which was literally placed at their feet by God, and it seems unfathomable that Moses would doubt the power and might of God given all of the things He had already done for the people.  Sadly, though, none of us are immune to this type of thinking.  How many of us have experienced times when we longed for something more that what God has already provided?  How many of us have wondered if God was listening to us and questioned why He was not stepping in immediately to help us in our time of need?  How many of us have seen a problem and thought that it was simply too great for anyone to fix?  When we start to feel worry in our lives, in essence we are doubting God.  When we wonder why God is not immediately changing our situation, we are doubting His absolute justice, power, mercy, and grace.

In each Psalm there is a theme of deliverance from something that has the Psalmist feeling overwhelmed and in despair. Psalm 30 speaks of being lifted out of the depths and Psalm 32 speaks of bones being wasted away. In each instance there is a call out to GOD and a response.

Let us reveal our doubts and our delights, our fears and our faith. When we do this GOD will be our hiding place, protecting us from trouble and surrounding us with songs of deliverance. We will know that although we have messed up to often and too easily, and although we may have brought the weeping of the night upon ourselves, Joy does come in the morning. GOD will turn our weeping into dancing, not because of us, but often in spite of us. Release the weight and embrace flavor of our GODS favor.
