Doubting and going astray

Expression of doubt and posing questions

The last few days in our small Belgian community we spoke about looking for Christ, having doubts, loving Jesus, actions to be taken as lover of Jesus and lover of God.

Some people may feel like they have to climb a very steep mountain or could say “I Die Daily”. Once more in Belgium we were under attack and got lots of hateful reactions saying Christadelphians are a sect and is made up of haters of God and haters of Jesus. Several people wanted our members to believe nobody can be allowed to have questions about faith and should not have any doubts about matters of life. Therefore we looked if we May we have doubts and wondered how we could live with Resurrectional Responsibility, getting prepared and very well oiled making some work of looking at Evangelisation, local preaching opposite overseas evangelism.

Connecting people

Newbury market place.jpg
Newbury Town Hall and the Market Place of the town approximately south-central in West Berkshire

Those who love Jesus and wanted to show their brotherly connection last Sunday gathered to have a joined meeting with Newbury, Mons, Brussels and Leuven, via internet connection from Mons and Newbury. It was a great service which we all enjoyed very much.

The last few days we heard many people asking us if we where lovers of God and “Is there any other god?” “Is there some powerful god I never heard of ?” and wondering we had an other God than the main churches.

Many these last few weeks we wanted people to understand that there are no three gods to be worshipped but only One who says about Himself:

Isa 44:6 The Scriptures 1998+  (6)  “Thus said יהוה {Jehovah}, Sovereign of Yisra’ĕl, and his Redeemer, יהוה {Jehovah} of hosts, ‘I am the First and I am the Last, besides Me there is no Elohim.

For some it may look like God makes us a strife unto our neighbours and that our enemies laugh among them-selves (Psalm 79:6) and therefore the need was high to ask to god that he would give ear as The Shepherd of Israel, that lead Joseph like a flock; that dwell between the cherubims and shine forth. (Psalm 80:1)

The Shepherd of Israel, a title which is the correlative of the words in Psalm 79:13, “thy people and the flock of thy pasture” (cp. Psalm 74:1, made us willing to come together as sheep in the stall of God, crossing over the waters of the English channel. As in the past, we should know that lovers of God are not liked so much by the world. Today also archers may sorely grieve us, and be shooting at us, and hating us, like they did with Joseph.

Gen 49:22-26 The Scriptures 1998+  (22)  “Yosĕph is an offshoot of a fruit-bearing tree, an offshoot of a fruit-bearing tree by a fountain, his branches run over a wall. (23)  “And the archers have bitterly grieved him, shot at him and hated him.
(24)  “But his bow remained in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty One of Yaʽaqoḇ – from there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Yisra’ĕl –  (25)  from the Ěl of your father who helps you, and by the Almighty who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
(26)  “The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the limit of the everlasting hills. They are on the head of Yosĕph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separated from his brothers.

Psa 80:1-3 The Scriptures 1998+  (1)  Give ear, O Shepherd of Yisra’ĕl, Who lead Yosĕph like a flock; Who dwell between the keruḇim, shine forth! (2)  Before Ephrayim, Binyamin, and Menashsheh, Stir up Your might, And come and save us!  (3)  Cause us to turn back, O Elohim, And cause Your face to shine, That we might be saved!

Parable of lost sheep

Luk 15:4-7 The Scriptures 1998+  (4)  “What man among you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  (5)  “And having found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  (6)  “And having come home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’  (7)  “I say to you that in the same way there shall be more joy in the heaven over one sinner repenting, than over ninety-nine righteous ones who need no repentance.

Brother Jon had been working with sheep in New Zealand and told about his work with them and how they could be showing their will but became very calm as soon as the shearer had her firmly. We all may be like sheep in the fields going one or the other way looking for  greener grass. Those who work on the grasslands and have sheep or children to take care of, do know what it takes when a man among us having lost one of the many sheep or some child. Do we not leave the ninety nine in the wilderness, or leave the children by some one else and go in search of that which is lost until we find it?

When a child or an animal is been lost how joyful are we not when we did find it back a life. In the parable of the shepherd Jeshua upon coming home the friends are also called together and neighbours get to hear the good news. Jesus tells us that we may be like lost sheep or have lost sheep in our surroundings but that there is a diligent searcher. Like here on earth when someone or something lost found again, the people rejoice for it, Jesus assures us, there will be greater joy in heaven for one reforming sinner, than for ninety nine righteous persons who have no need of reformation.

Safety in numbers

Brother Jon pointing out at the lost sheep, diligent searcher, complacent majority, asked us

  • How are we lost?
    • We’re clearly not completely lost, but there may be many here who are losing their way in their walk.
    • Getting lost can happen quickly, and creep up on you.
    • Every time we sin we become a little lost.
  • Can weidentify with complacentmajority?
    • ‘Safety in numbers’ mentality is not good. Incorrect behaviour quickly becomes ‘normalised’ if you are in the majority.
    • Pharisees and scribes really thought they were fine. Manifested in arrogance, self-delusion and hypocrisy.
    • Is there anything about our secular or religious life that is smug or conceited?
    • We must be wary of the same, both individually and collectively.

Sheep gathering

We in our community are all like brothers and sisters feeling united, being part of one congregation or one flock. Together we look up to the son of man who we believe is our best guide on this globe, and is a shepherd who does not leave us on our own. We are convinced that son of man, who is not any more here on earth shall come in his glory, and will then sit on the throne of his glory.

We do feel much for each other and would love to see that all around us can be be assembled with pleasure from all the nations. We put our hopes that when Jeshua will separate all the ones he called in front of him and as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, we may find our loved ones and our fellow members of the community in the chosen group to enter through the small gate of the Kingdom of God.

Those coming together as brethren and sisters look out for lost sheep, because they know how important it is that all sheep should come together at night. They also know that when the great shepherd comes all the servants should have done their work right and the sheepdogs have to show that they are well trained and got all sheep nicely together in the same stall or have already diven the sheep and the goat to one or the other site. The main shepherd shall place the sheep on the right hand and the goats on his left.  Then the king will say to them on his right,

“Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom which hath been prepared for you from the formation of the world” (Matthew 25:34)

Brothers and sisters taking care of each other

When the night will come, of the Last Days, we shall have to be taking care of those who were hungry, thirsty, in need, stranger or well known, having given lodging, clothing, having taking care of many and visited many.  At all times we should stand ready to help others, be it people know to us or strangers, being fellow members of the ecclesia but even more also other believers and non-believers. there must be a difference between an atheist doing all such good works and a believer.

Mat 25:31-46 The Scriptures 1998+  (31)  “And when the Son of Aḏam comes in His esteem, and all the set-apart messengers with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His esteem.  (32)  “And all the nations shall be gathered before Him, and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats.  (33)  “And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.  (34)  “Then the Sovereign shall say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the reign prepared for you from the foundation of the world –  (35)  for I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in,  (36)  was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.’  (37)  “Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, ‘Master, when did we see You hungry and we fed You, or thirsty and gave You to drink?  (38)  ‘And when did we see You a stranger and took You in, or naked and clothed You?  (39)  ‘And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and we came to You?’  (40)  “And the Sovereign shall answer and say to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, in so far as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me.’  (41)  “He shall then also say to those on the left hand, ‘Go away from Me, accursed ones, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his messengers –  (42)  for I was hungry and you gave Me no food, I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink,  (43)  ‘I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, was naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’  (44)  “Then they also shall answer Him, saying, ‘Master, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not serve You?’  (45)  “Then He shall answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, in so far as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’  (46)  “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.”

Differences in behaviour

For sure we can find many atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, agnostics doing lots of good works. Several of them also do have meetings where they do come together to show their unity. Is there is difference to be seen or to be felt between the non-believer doing good works and a believer or the Christian believer doing good works?

    • Luke15:4-7. Parable of lost sheep – lost sheep, diligent searcher, complacent majority

    Matt25:31-46. Sheep and goats.

    • Can look very similar, but differences in behaviour.
      • Independence vs. flocking behaviour.
      • Social dominance (goats aggressive).
    • When’s the last time you gave food to the hungry? Drink to the thirsty? Welcome to a stranger? Clothes to the naked? Visited the sick? Visited the prisoner?
    • Unconscious good. Seems impossible!

Taking care of others

The word of Jehovah came to us and we can find in it that have to be careful with those shepherds that feed themselves! We should know that the shepherds feed the sheep. So we must be careful when we eat plenty and drink milk, clothe ourselves with the wool, killing the fatlings we must be careful not to forget feeding the sheep.

We should know that there are not only the physical diseased, but should also take care everybody gets the spiritual food and gets strengthened. Not only do we have to heal that which was sick but we also do have to bind up that which is broken. What is very important and by many forgotten is that lots of people in church communities have brought back that which was driven away. Many are fast to threaten others when they have questions about their belief or about the Christian faith.

Out in the world there may be lots of people with questions about the Christian faith. In which way do we want to help them. How do we want to be with them, to give them a hand to find the right way?

Have you ever sought that which was lost?

These weeks we have seen once more that several denominations are eager to shout at others, call them names and with force and with rigour they want to have ruled over us and others.

We also can see that in this world many are with lots of questions, but that there are also several who are willing to find the truth and are sincerely looking for Biblical truth. They are scattered and many of them feel in the desert and lost, because there is no shepherd.

Eze 34:1-31 The Scriptures 1998+  (1)  Eze 34:1  And the word of יהוה {Jehovah} came to me, saying,
(2)  “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Yisra’ĕl, prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה to the shepherds, “Woe to the shepherds1 of Yisra’ĕl who have been feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock? Footnote: 1See Jer. 10:21.
(3)  “You eat the fat and you put on the wool. You slaughter the fatlings – you do not feed the flock. (4)  “You have not strengthened the weak, nor have you healed the sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back the straying, nor sought what was lost; but you have ruled them with might and harshness. (5)  “And they were scattered because there was no shepherd. And they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.
(6)  “My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill. And My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them.” (7)  ‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of יהוה

God’s sheep a pray

All over the world people of God can be found. All over the world there are also sheep wandering through all the mountains, and on every high hill, scattered on all the face of the land. Followers of Christ should wonder if they are willing to look for them, because now it seems like in the times there was none that searched or sought after them.  Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of Jehovah the Only One God of gods Whose sheep became a prey, and Whose sheep became food to all the beasts of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did His shepherds search for His sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and didn’t feed His sheep.

All believers in God should be aware of the Most High Shepherd and all the other shepherds. They should check if they will not do as so many shepherds in this world and like the servants of Babylon do. We can see lots of churches in Christendom where the shepherds are more interested in their own gains instead of taking care to bring the Good News of the Gospel.

YHWH, Jehovah the Elohim does not like such shepherds who are not really taking care of the sheep of the world. He will require His sheep at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves anymore; and God will deliver His sheep from their mouth, that they may not be food for them.

Eze 34:8-11 The Scriptures 1998+  (8)  “As I live,” declares the Master יהוה, “because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, from not having a shepherd, and My shepherds did not search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock,”
(9)  therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of יהוה!
(10)  ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am against the shepherds, and shall require My flock at their hand, and shall make them cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more. And I shall deliver My flock from their mouths, and they shall no longer be food for them.”
(11)  ‘For thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I Myself shall search for My sheep and seek them out.

God will search for my sheep, and will seek them out

Wherever you may be in the world, you may be sure that God searches and knows the heart and knows the ones who are seeking for Him. It is the Most High Lord YHWH, the Elohim Hashem Jehovah Who Himself says that He Himself will search for His sheep, and will seek them out.  As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will God seek out His sheep. He will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. Wherever you might be in the world in case you are seriously looking for God, ‘crying for Him, He shall hear your voice.

You may be a sheep between lots of goats or surrounded by wild animals, God will bring you out from the peoples, and gather you with many others from the countries to bring you to the land where you belong, with brothers and sisters united in Christ. Even when you live far away from an ecclesia god shall take care of you that you receive your daily food. In case if you are willing to find the Biblical Truth God shall give you the necessary spiritual food. He will feed you with good pasture; and on the mountains of the height of Israel shall our fold be, there we shall lie down in a good fold; and on fat pasture we believers and lovers of God shall feed on the mountains of Israel. The Divine Creator will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong He will destroy; The Righteous God will feed them in judgement. We may be sure that whatever we do whatever we believe, whatever we want to follow, God will judge between us sheep.

Eze 34:12-14 The Scriptures 1998+  (12)  “As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so I shall seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered in a day of cloud and thick darkness.
(13)  “And I shall bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the lands, and shall bring them to their own land. And I shall feed them on the mountains of Yisra’ĕl, in the valleys, and in all the dwellings of the land. (14)  “In good pasture I shall feed them, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Yisra’ĕl. They shall lie there in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Yisra’ĕl. (15)  “I shall feed My flock and make them lie down,” declares the Master יהוה.
(16)  “I shall seek out the lost and bring back the strayed. And I shall bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick, but the fat and the strong I shall destroy. I shall feed them with right-ruling.”
(17)  ‘And as for you, O My flock, thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am judging between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats.

God giving peace

Lots of people do not like lovers of God. Many of them do everything to make live difficult for them. As lovers of Christ we shall be confronted by people who find we do have to make Jesus our god and should worship him. But we should know that there is only One God to be worshipped, and that is the God of Abraham, Who is also the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob and the God of Jesus.

The good shepherd Jesus, knew very well his Boss and Most High Shepherd, who is much greater than Him, whose Spirit shall guide those who accept him.

Joh 14:26-28 The Scriptures 1998+  (26)  “But the Helper, the Set-apart Spirit, whom the Father shall send in My Name, He shall teach you all, and remind you of all that I said to you.  (27)  “Peace I leave with you – My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
(28)  “You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you did love Me, you would have rejoiced that I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

All the shepherding Jesus does he learned from his heavenly Father without he could do nothing.

Joh 5:19-24 The Scriptures 1998+  (19)  Therefore יהושע {Jeshua} responded and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is able to do none at all by Himself, but only that which He sees the Father doing, because whatever He does, the Son also likewise does.  (20)  “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all that He Himself does. And greater works than these He is going to show Him, in order that you marvel.  (21)  “For as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, even so the Son makes alive whom He wishes.  (22)  “For the Father judges no one, but has given all the judgment to the Son,  (23)  that all should value the Son even as they value the Father. He who does not value the Son does not value the Father who sent Him.  (24)  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me possesses everlasting life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

We as brothers and sisters in Christ, believe in Jeshua, as the sent one from God, and accept his position as son of God, made higher than angels, though lower before, to be a mediator between God and man and to be our judge at the Time of God.  It shall be God Himself who will be the Most High Shepherd of His sheep Who will cause them to lie down and to be in peaceful pastures.

Though we may  not forget the tasks the shepherds (God and Christ) have given, to tread down with our feet the residue of our  pasture, to get rid of the wrong teachings and wrong traditions, avoiding the filthy, polluted water with false teachings. We are each ourself responsible for looking for clear unpolluted teachings, to have drank of the clear waters. We ourself have to foul the residue with our feet.

God does not like sheep who associate with the swines, preferring human doctrines instead of Biblical teaching. God’s sheep are stronger than those who love more to be with the majority and those who love to keep the human traditions.

Lovers of God do have to thrust with side and with shoulder, and push all the diseased with their horns and look forward to the One Who can rescue them and safeguard us so that we shall not be any more a prey. We can be sure that God will judge between them and shall judge sheep and sheep.

God has given the world another shepherd over man, who knows them best and has given them the best schooling. That shepherd trained many sheep and was the best example for all following shepherds. As the descendant of God’s servant and slave David, the given shepherd to mankind has fed them. He showed who is the Main Leader and Who is the Master Shepherd. For those who want to be part of the flock He YHWH, the Elohim Hashem Jehovah will be their God, and His slave David prince among them. He will restore the land and give peace to all who follow Him and His shepherds.

And He will make them and the places round about His hill an esteem; and He will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of esteeming. And the tree of the field shall yield its fruit, and the land shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land; and they shall know that He is The Most High “I am”, The I am Who is YHWH, Jehovah God Who delivers us out of the hand of those that made slaves of us.

For sure we may know that we shall no more be a prey to the nations, neither shall the beasts of the land devour us; but we shall dwell securely, and none shall make us afraid, because we do know we do not have to fear man, but should fear God. And He will raise up to us a plantation for renown, and we shall be no more consumed with famine in the land, neither carry the shame of the nations anymore.

Yes all shall come to know Who the Most High is. but for many it shall be too late. We have to make up our mind in time. Please do not reprieve. By adjourning it can well be you shall be too late to go to the small gate. They and we all have to know that He, YHWH, The Cretaor of heaven and earth, the Elohim Hashem Jehovah is our God and H is willing to be with us. Jesus restored the relationship with Him so that we can up to Him as to our own father.

We as brothers in Christ have chosen to follow the Master Shepherd His beloved shepherd, the only begotten in whom God is pleased. We present ourselves to him and to the world as people for God willing to be His sheep, the sheep of His pasture.

Eze 34:18-31 The Scriptures 1998+  (18)  “Is it not enough for you to have eaten up the good pasture, and the rest of your pasture you trample with your feet. Or that you should drink of the clear waters, and the rest you muddy with your feet?
(19)  “And as for My flock, they eat what you have trampled with your feet, and they drink what you have muddied with your feet.”
(20)  ‘Therefore thus said the Master יהוה to them, “See, I Myself shall judge between fat and lean sheep. (21)  “Because you have pushed with flank and shoulder, and thrust at all the weak ones with your horns, and scattered them abroad, (22)  therefore I shall save My flock, and let them no longer be a prey. And I shall judge between sheep and sheep. (23)  “And I shall raise up over them one shepherd, My servant Dawiḏ, and he shall feed them. He shall feed them and be their shepherd. (24)  “And I, יהוה, shall be their Elohim, and My servant Dawiḏ a prince in their midst. I, יהוה, have spoken. (25)  “And I shall make a covenant of peace with them, and make evil beasts cease from the land. And they shall dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the forest. (26)  “And I shall make them and the places all around My hill a blessing, and shall cause showers to come down in their season – showers of blessing they are.
(27)  “And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit and the earth yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land. And they shall know that I am יהוה, when I have broken the bars of their yoke. And I shall deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them, (28)  and they shall no longer be a prey for the gentiles, and the beast of the earth shall not devour them. And they shall dwell safely, with no one to make them afraid.
(29)  “And I shall raise up for them a planting place of name, and they shall no longer be consumed by hunger in the land, nor bear the shame of the gentiles any more. (30)  “And they shall know that I, יהוה their Elohim, am with them, and that they, the house of Yisra’ĕl, are My people,” declares the Master יהוה.’ ”
(31)  “And you, My flock, the flock of My pasture, are men, and I am your Elohim,” declares the Master יהוה.’ ”

Other sheep

Let us be aware that forgers lurk and that only thieves and robbers climb over the fence instead of going in through the gate to the sheep pen.  That we can warn others to look out for the the gatekeeper who opens the gate for the shepherd, so that he can go in through it. We as sheep should know our shepherd’s voice. He calls each of us by name and leads us out.

Let our eyes be open to see the true shepherd who has led out all of his sheep, walking in front of them, following him and not those of an other farm, because we know his voice.  Let us therefore not be sheep who will follow strangers, but let us recognize a stranger’s voice, and they run away.

Jesus, we should know is the gate. All who come in through him will be saved. Through Jesus they will come and go and find pasture.  God has given a very good shepherd in whom we can put all our trust. He is the good shepherd who knows his sheep, and they know him.

Having placed in the womb of his mother by the Force of God, like the Father knows him, he knows the Father, and he give up his life for his sheep, the ones which are willing to follow him. Though he also has other sheep that are not in this sheep pen. He must bring them together too, when they hear his voice. Then there will be one flock of sheep and one shepherd.  So by time more people shall come to unite with others in Christ.

Joh 10:11-18 The Scriptures 1998+  (11)  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.  (12)  “But the hireling, and not being a shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees. And the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.  (13)  “Now the hireling flees because he is a hireling and is not concerned about the sheep.  (14)  “I am the good shepherd.1 And I know Mine, and Mine know Me, Footnote: 1Ezek. 34:11-12, Heb. 13:20, 1 Peter 2:25, 1 Peter 5:4.  (15)  even as the Father knows Me, and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.  (16)  “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold – I have to bring them as well, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one flock, one shepherd.1 Footnote: 1Ezek. 34:23, Ezek. 37:24.  (17)  “Because of this the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, in order to receive it again.  (18)  “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to receive it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Those who do not belong to the Jews or Judaic people, the original Chosen People of God, Israel, should not worry when they choose to follow the Jew Jeshua, because he is the one who shall bring all those who are willing to follow him, through the small gate into the Kingdom of his heavenly Father.

Let us make sure to follow the right shepherd to the right den.
