3 The Song of the Lamb Revelation 15

1	John sees in heaven another great and marvellous sign: seven angels with seven last plagues – last because with them God’s wrath is completed.
2	Saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and over the number of his name. They held harps given them by God
3	And sang the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the Lamb: “Great and marvellous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the ages.
4	Who will not fear you, O Lord, and brings glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
5	After this I looked and in heaven the temple, that is, the tabernacle of the Testimony, was opened.
6	Out of the temple came the seven angels with the seven plagues. They were dressed in clean, shining linen and wore golden sashes around their chests.
7	One of the four beasts gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever.
8	And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

And they sang the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the Lamb:

Verses 3-4
“Great and marvellous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways, King of the ages.
Who will not fear you, O Lord, and brings glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

In Elpis Israel Dr Thomas sees that this song refers back to the Song of Moses recorded in Exodus 14 after the defeat of Pharaoh after the crossing of the Red Sea.
They had been saved by the Angel of God and now this salvation is from the Lamb of God.

He writes – (page 293) that this song: “Celebrates his future triumph over all the nations in his deliverance of the twelve tribes from their tyranny; a redemption which will result in the submission of all nations to his sovereignty, as predicted in the song. And it is to be observed that the Lamb’s victory being the accomplishment of the prophecy in Moses’ song, and a victory gained on a similar occasion, and in connection with the same nation, the Lamb’s song is styled, in the Apocalypse, “The song of Moses and the song of the Lamb”.

The context of this song is that the last seven plagues were about to be released on to the earth. The implication is that these indeed are the last seven plagues …

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them is the wrath of God complete.

In the next chapter – they are referred to as the bowls of God’s wrath

Loathsome sores
Sea turns to blood
Waters turn to blood
Men are scorched
Darkness and pain
Euphrates dried up
The earth is shaken by an earth quake.

There are a number of songs of Moses recorded for us (Exodus 15, Deuteronomium 31:30, 32;3 + Psalms)
The context of Moses bring the people out of Egypt – surely an excellent parable for the time when the saved are brought out from their service to sin into a new relationship with God.

The song is more of a focus on the power of God rather than directed to the Lamb.

It is praising God for what He has done for us in bringing about redemption for His saints and those that have been true to Him.

Most people believe singing is the primary activity of heaven, but the text I just read to you, is the only passage in the Book of Revelation that pictures us singing.

God commanded the Israelites put the blood of a lamb on their doorpost so that when the death angel came (Abaddon) he would pass over their house and no person in their home would be harmed.If they did not have the blood of that lamb on their doorpost, then the fate of the Egyptians would also come upon them.

Friends, we are living in the days spoken of in Revelation. Our King is holding God’s people in bondage, and God is mad! We are going to witness some nasty things. We will not be exempt from all the suffering. However, I believe God showed us something very important in the Exodus account: We are His people living in bondage to an evil government…an evil world! His judgment is beginning to pour out because of the sin of the nations!

The victory over the Egyptians was a really big deal! The victory over Pharaoh’s stubbornness was a big deal, too, but finally God won over him and led his people out of Egypt.

The Israelites were thankful to God for His blessings. Just like the Israelites, we can do this too. Praise God with a song for the blessings He gives you. Be thankful to God for everything and His power and mercy. Praise God that we still live today.

When the Lord opened the Red Sea, enabling the Israelites to cross to safety, and then closed them, putting to death their enemies who sought to devour them, Moses, the servant of God sang a song of praise and worship to the Lord…

there was another figure in the ancient world who gave up everything to answer the call from what he believed was the one and only true God.

The Bible says that after Moses accepted his dangerous mission to get the Israelites out of Egypt, he confronted the pharaoh. The pharaoh refused to let his people go until God unleashed a series of unnatural disasters known as the 10 plagues. Jews commemorate this event and the Exodus on Passover.

“The evening before the 10th plague, Moses instructed the Jews to sacrifice a lamb and to paint its blood on their doors so that the angel of death would know who was Jewish and who wasn’t. This is where the term ‘Passover’ comes from,” said Jonathan Safran Foer, the author of “New American Haggadah.”
