2 The Song of the Lamb Revelation 14

The Lamb and the 144,000

1	John looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion and with Him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.
2	John hears a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. A sound of harpists playing their harps.
3	They sang a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn that new song except the 144,000 who were redeemed from the world.
4	Not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits to God and to the Lamb.
5	In their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God
6	Another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to all those who dwell on earth – on every nation, tribe, tongue and people
7	With a loud voice Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgement has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs if water.
8	Another angel followed saying Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
9	A third angel, saying with a loud voice If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark in his forehead or on his hand.
10	He himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
11	And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
12	Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
13	Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes” says the spirit “that they may rest from their labours, and their works follow them,”
14	John saw a white cloud and on the white cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His Head a golden crown, and His hand a sharp sickle.
15	And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe”.
16	So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.
17	Another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18	Another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.”
19	So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God
20	And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of winepress, up to the horses bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.

Verses 3-4

John hears a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. A sound of harpists playing their harps.
They sang a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn that new song except the 144,000 who were redeemed from the world.

So this is a bit of trick Song to the Lamb in that the words are not actually written for us, as so we can only speculate on the words of this new song.

It is outside the scope of our talk this evening to discuss about what the 144,000 means. But I hope what is being shown to us in the book is the use of symbols which really is almost presenting this lead up to the time of the end. It therefore is difficult to believe that this is a literal number, particularly given its precise nature.

Also, as Wrested Scriptures points out, looking at the context of the chapter – this must surely be visionary and symbolic.

Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him on hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads……

Looking at the description of the Lamb from chapter 5, this is described v 6 and 7.

And I looked, and behold in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God are sent out into all the earth.
Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

I am not really sure how we could image or draw this description of the vision.

It is interesting that this song is before the last battle and the defeat of the false religion. This song is a celebration of this multitude being the redeemed of the world. The song of thanksgiving surely is one of thanks for this redemption and what has been done by Christ for us in the giving of His life and the terrible death He suffered for the redeemed.

It is important for us to be part of that great number of those which will be redeemed and saved.

Our own song for the Lamb should also show how worthy we feel He is as He has redeemed us by His life and death. This should be our continual song as we wait for Him to return to the earth and set up His kingdom.

The centerpiece of God’s eternal purpose is for Jesus to come back to fully establish His Kingdom rule over all the earth as He joins the heavenly and earthly realms together. God’s purpose has always been for God and His people to live together in this way. This is the interpretive key to understanding the End-Times. Without this foundational revelation, confusion is inevitable when studying the End-Times.

the triumph of Jesus has already been spectacularly introduced in Revelation 4–5. The great vision of Revelation 4–5 controls the entire book. There we learn that Christ, this male child, is the only one who is fit to open the scroll in God’s right hand to bring about all of God’s purposes for judgment and blessing. He is the Lion and the Lamb, the reigning king and the bloody sacrifice, the heir to David’s throne yet the one who appears from God’s throne. Because of his struggle, men and women from every tongue and tribe and people and nation are redeemed. Countless millions gather around him who sits on the throne and the Lamb and sing a new song of adoring, grateful, praise.
