Bible in a nutshell

Did you ever wonder what the Bible is all about?

If you’ve ever wondered what the Bible is all about, and want a basic introduction to it, then there is a seminar for you in Burton upon Trent, also known as Burton-on-Trent or simply Burton.

We do not know if the Burton breweries can make such good beer as the Belgians, but at the seminar you shall be able to slake your thirst with refreshing spiritual thoughts in this town straddling the River Trent in the east of Staffordshire, England. The town originally grew up around Burton on Trent Abbey, which was the most important religious centre in medievalStaffordshire. But at the meeting they are not going to look at the Bible from any dogmatic views which they taught at that abbey.

As there may be confusion as to whether Burton is based in the West Midlands or the East Midlands many people are confused by what the Bible really is. For many Catholics it is their missal or their catechism.  For many Christians it is just the New Testament, inclusive all the denominational footnotes.

We do think they shall look at more than those few know passages which are in some church-books, which some consider to be the Bible. But they shall show that the Bible is much, much more than those few paragraphs read at service on Sundays, in many churches.

Out brothers in Christ are going to give an overview of the Bible message. First of all they shall show why it is important to recognise that the Bible, the Word of God is more than just the New Testament. They shall consider why there are two testaments and shall give advice on how to read and understand it better.

If you would like to have some useful background information, you are welcome to the The Blackpool Street meetings and to the Seminar at the Three Queenshotel, 1 Bridge Street, Burton on Saturday October the 20th from 10.00 a.m. until 3.30 p.m.

The main aim is that it should help you to understand why it is important to read the Bible, and it will also give you plenty of opportunities to ask questions and chat with their three friendly presenters.

It’s totally free and you’ll be under no obligations at any time. If you want to book on, just send your name and email / postal address to this address:

  • The Only Bible Christians Would Actually Follow (truelogic.wordpress.com)
Christians republicans would follow this bible because they can pick and choose which scripture they want to apply to others and those they wish to ignore.  Actually, we all know this is what Christians do, but now they can actually say they follow the Bible and not be hypocrites, if they use their very own cut and paste version.
  • Atheist Bible Studies (davidnilsen.wordpress.com)
Most mistakes in interpretation are caused because the context of the passage is neglected. In most cases, the context is neglected because it is not read.  Often new Christians are introduced to certain “narrow” types of Bible study (memorization, Bible study guides, etc) without having any idea of what the Bible as a whole is all about. This causes several problems.

If a believer, who is presumably sympathetic to the teaching of his faith, can miss the point of a whole passage of the Bible, how much greater is the danger for someone on the hunt for something to pick apart?
    +
Obviously if every atheist were to read the New Testament cover-to-cover four times in a row they would not all suddenly become believers.  We cannot expect every read-through of the Bible to end in a Damascus road experience (though, if every outspoken atheist suddenly decided they ought to sit down and actually read the entire Bible a few times, it would certainly be empirical evidence of divine action in the world).
  • Archaeology and the Bible (samuelatgilgal.wordpress.com)

In every instance where the findings of archaeology pertain to the Biblical record, the archaeological evidence confirms, sometimes in detailed fashion, the historical accuracy of Scripture. In those instances where the archaeological findings seem to be at variance with the Bible, the discrepancy lies with the archaeological evidence, i.e., improper interpretation, lack of evidence, etc. — not with the Bible.

  • The Distorted Gospel (samuelatgilgal.wordpress.com)

People today believe they are more intelligent and wiser than the people who lived in centuries past. They assume that such an ancient book as the Bible has very little relevance to modern living. Therefore, these cultural Christians, feel they must import the “revelation” of modern writers, psychologists, and various pseudo-scientific books to modernize the “Old Time Religion”. Such actions, however, deny that the Bible is the Word of God.

  • Western Civilization is more fragile than we knew (bokertov.typepad.com)
Burton is renowned for formal and informal landscapes set alongside the River Trent. Enjoy the floral displays in beautiful Stapenhill Gardens, before strolling through the wonderful Trent Washlands, or take a trip on the River Trent in the delightful “Dingle Belle”
