7 And He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, when I dwell in the midst of the children of Yisra’ĕl forever, and the house of Yisra’ĕl shall no longer defile My set-apart Name, they nor their sovereigns, by their whoring and by the corpses of their sovereigns on their high places. 8 “When they placed their threshold by My threshold, and their doorpost by My doorpost, with a wall between them and Me, they defiled My set-apart Name by the abominations which they have done. So I consumed them in My displeasure. 9 “Now let them put their whoring and the corpses of their sovereigns far away from Me, and I shall dwell in their midst forever.
10 “Son of man, explain the House to the house of Yisra’ĕl, and when they are ashamed of their crookednesses, they shall measure the measurements. 11 “And since they shall be ashamed of all that they did, make known to them the design of the House and its structure, and its exits and its entrances, its entire design and all its laws, and all its forms and all its Torot. And write it down before their eyes, so that they observe its entire design and all its laws, and shall do them. 12 “This is the Torah of the House: Upon the mountaintop, all the boundary of it, all around, is most set-apart. And He said to me, “Son of man, thus said the Master יהוה {Jehovah}, ‘These are the laws for the altar on the day when it is made, for offering burnt offerings on it, and for sprinkling blood on it. (Ezekiel 43:18 The Scriptures 1998+)

The instructions which the Voice of God gave were followed up by Abraham and his people. It came from the air of from the bushes (Exodus 6:4) and made itself know as the voice of the One who is, was and ever shall be, the “I am”, the “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh,” “I am that which I am” (I am/will be what I am/will be) God of Moses his father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Jehovah, whose Name is forever, from generation to generation, surely saw the affliction of His people which He heard crying and for He knew their sorrows. (Exodus 3:6-7, 14-16) More than once Jehovah replied to those crying people that he was surely be with them. He also sent signs to them so that they could know that He, the Elohim was with them. But He also asked them to come up to Jehovah and worship Him as their Only One God. (Exodus 3:12; 24:1) He made a decree and a law for them and when people would listen to the Mighty Voice they would be healed and safeguarded. (Exodus 15:25) And Moses came and told the people all the words of Jehovah, and all the judgments. “And all the people answered with one voice and said, all the words which Jehovah has said, we will do.” And Moses wrote all the words of Jehovah, and built an altar for God (Exodus 24:3-4). It was unto Moses that God gave the Commandments we should keep. In those early times God spoke all these words, saying that He is Jehovah our God, who has brought His people out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. We shall have no other gods before Him and we should not make to ourselves any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (Exodus 20:1-5)[1]

1 And Elohim spoke all these Words, saying, 2 “I am יהוה {Jehovah} your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of slavery.
3 “You have no other mighty ones against My face.
4 “You do not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of that which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth, 5 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה {Jehovah} your Elohim am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My commands.
7 “You do not bring^{1} the Name of יהוה {Jehovah} your Elohim to naught, for יהוה {Jehovah} does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught. {Footnote: ¹Or lift up, or take.} (Exodus 20:1-4 The Scriptures 1998+)

A leading and caring Voice to be heard

God’s voice led people through deserts, waters and mountains, in easy, but more often in difficult times. It was like He carried them, as a man carries his son. But often people did not believe the Voice of God and made Him angry, because they did not trust Him, the Adonai, who gave His Word. (Deuteronomy 1:34-37) Though they should know when we will do that which is right in His sight, and will give ear to His commandments, and keep all His laws, God would be with them that listen to His voice and help them, because all the words which Jehovah has said, He we will do, as Jehovah our God is, in all our calling on him. (Exodus 24:3; Deuteronomy 4:7)

When David‘s life was endangered at the rebellion of Absalom, and when the Kingdom of Israel was under great strain, David remembered his ancestors and who guided them. He wanted to build a House for God and did love it already before it was build. He sought to dwell in the house of God. When he was in trouble he also repented for what he done wrong and remembered all the good things God had done for him. He also as others returned to Jehovah his and our God and was obedient to His voice. (Psalms 27:4-7; Deuteronomy 4:30)

David like some other biblical writers dared to speak to the One who’s Voice they heard. They were also convinced that the One whom they heard speaking to them was also listening to them. David also believed that God would conceal him in his shelter on the day of evil and that the Listener God would place him on a high rock. David wanted to sacrifice in his tent with shouts of joy; singing and making melodies to the Most High Elohim. He called upon God and asked him to hear his voice. His mind recalled the voice of God who said several times to His people to seek His face. When David asked God to show His face, he was convinced that God had been his help. When he asked God not to abandon or forsake him, he was convinced that the God of his salvation would gather him up, teach him the way of God and lead him on a level path. He believed that he would see goodness of Jehovah in the land of the living.

4 One matter I asked of יהוה {Jehovah} – this I seek: To dwell in the House of יהוה {Jehovah} All the days of my life, To see the pleasantness of יהוה {Jehovah}, And to inquire in His Hĕk’al. 5 For in the day of evil He hides me in His booth; In the covering of His Tent He hides me; On a rock He raises me up. 6 And now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me; And I offer in His Tent with shouts of joy; I sing, yea, I sing praises to יהוה {Jehovah}. 7 Hear, O יהוה {Jehovah}, when I cry with my voice! And show me favour, and answer me. 8 To my heart You have said, “Seek My face.” Your face, יהוה {Jehovah}, I seek. 9 Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in displeasure; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O Elohim of my deliverance. 10 When my father and my mother have forsaken me, Then יהוה {Jehovah}does take me in. 11 Teach me Your way, O יהוה {Jehovah}, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. 12 Do not give me over To the desire of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And they breathe out cruelty to me. 13 What if I had not believed To see the goodness of יהוה {Jehovah} In the land of the living! 14 Wait on יהוה {Jehovah}, be strong, And let Him strengthen your heart! Wait, I say, on יהוה {Jehovah}! (Psalms 27:4-14 The Scriptures 1998+)

In 1 Chronicles 17:1-8 we have the request of David that he might build God a house. The reply of God was “haven’t I always been with you anyway?” The comment on this in Acts 7:46-49 is “the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands”.

44 “The Tent of Witness was with our fathers in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Mosheh to make it according to the pattern that he had seen, 45 which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Yehoshua { Joshua} into the land possessed by the gentiles, whom Elohim drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of Dawiḏ, 46 who found favour before Elohim and asked to find a dwelling for the Elohim of Ya’aqoḇ, 47 but Shelomoh built Him a house. 48 “However, the Most High does not dwell in dwellings made with hands,^{1} as the prophet says: {Footnote: ¹See 17:24}. 49 ‘The heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house shall you build for Me? says יהוה {Jehovah}, or what is the place of My rest? {(Isaiah 66:1)} 50 ‘Has My hand not made all these?’ (Acts 7:44-50 The Scriptures 1998+)

We, like David, can forget that God’s concern is not with material things, but with spiritual. God’s dwelling place is in heavenly places, and not in earthly. So how had David dwelt with God? Every time David was in trouble, he put his trust in God. His faith and hope was in God. David’s salvation was in God, and none other. His trust was in heavenly things and not earthly. David lived in faith. He lived in faith in God.

[1] So you can wonder why those who take Jesus to be God, go against this command and do make images of Jesus and pray before portraits depicting Jesus and saints and worship crosses and other statues.

Zoek uw Toevlucht bij God

Het woord toevlucht ken ook vertaald worden “woning” of “schuilplaats”; dit duidt de gedachte aan, dat God onze woonplaats, ons thuis is. Er is een volheid en liefelijkheid in dit beeld; want ons thuis is ons dierbaar, al is het de nederigste hut of de armoedigste zolderkamer; en veel dierbaarder nog is onze gezegende God, in wie wij leven, ons bewegen en zijn. Thuis gevoelen wij ons veilig wij sluiten de wereld buiten en wonen in kalme zekerheid. Evenzo, wanneer wij met onze God zijn, “vrezen wij geen kwaad.” Hij is onze toevlucht en onze schaduw, ons hoog vertrek. Thuis rusten wij; daar vinden wij de stilte, na de moeite en het werk van de dag. En zo vinden onze harten rust in God, wanneer wij, vermoeid van de strijd van het leven, ons tot Hem keren en vrede vinden voor onze zielen. Thuis openen wij ons hart: wij vrezen niet dat men ons misverstaan zal, of een verkeerde zin aan onze woorden zal geven. Evenzo, wanneer wij met God zijn, kunnen wij vrij uit met Hem spreken, en al onze geheime wensen voor Hem blootleggen. Want indien de “verborgenheid van de Heer is voor wie Hem vrezen,” zo behoren en moeten de geheimen van hen, die Hem vrezen, voor hun Heer zijn. Ons huis is ook de plaats van ons diepste en reinste geluk, en het is in God dat onze harten hun hoogste blijdschap vinden. Wij verblijden ons in Hem met een vreugde, die elke andere vreugd te boven gaat. Het is ook voor ons huis, dat wij werken en arbeiden. De gedachte aan het thuis geeft ons kracht om de dagelijkse lasten te dragen, en maakt de vingers vaardig om de taak te vervullen; en in deze zin mogen wij ook zeggen, dat God ons thuis is. De liefde tot Hem bekrachtigt ons. Wij denken aan Hem in het aangezicht van zijn geliefde Zoon, en een blik op het lijdende gelaat van de Verlosser noodzaakt ons om voor zijn taak te arbeiden. Wij voelen dat wij moeten werken, want wij hebben nog broeders die moeten gered worden, en wij moeten het hart van onzen Vader verheugen door de wederbrenging van zijn afgedwaalde kinderen; wij moeten gewijde blijdschap brengen in de heilige familie waartoe wij behoren. Welgelukzalig zij, die alzo de God Jakobs tot hun toevlucht hebben.

The word refuge may be translated “mansion,” or “abiding place,” which gives the thought that God is our abode, our home. There is a fulness and sweetness in the metaphor, for our home is dear to our hearts, although it is the humblest cottage, or the scantiest attic; and far dearer is our blessed God, in whom we live, and move, and have our being.

It is at home that we feel safe: we shut the world out and dwell in quiet security. So when we are with our God we “fear no evil.” He is our shelter and retreat, our abiding refuge. At home, we take our rest; it is there we find repose after the fatigue and toil of the day. And so our hearts find rest in God, when, wearied with life’s conflict, we turn to him, and our soul dwells at ease. At home, also, we let our hearts loose; we are not afraid of being misunderstood, nor of our words being misconstrued. So when we are with God we can commune freely with him, laying open all our hidden desires; for if the “secret of the Lord is with those who fear him,” the secrets of those who fear him ought to be, and must be, with their Lord.

Home, too, is the place of our truest and purest happiness: and it is in God that our hearts find their deepest delight. We have joy in him which far surpasses all other joy. It is also for home that we work and labour. The thought of it gives strength to bear the daily burden, and quickens the fingers to perform the task; and in this sense we may also say that God is our home. Love for him strengthens us. We think of him in the person of his dear Son; and a glimpse of the suffering face of the Redeemer constrains us to labour in his cause. We feel that we must work, for we have brethren yet to be saved, and we have our Father’s heart to make glad by bringing home his wandering sons; we wish to fill with holy mirth the sacred family among whom we dwell. God has given us His son, which He had promised long before to His people, Israel, and who was willing to lay down his life for the sins of many. In Christ we can see the radiance of God. We do have to come into Christ as Christ was in God.

As Jesus his joy was in God our joy has to be also in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming days the eyes of the world will be on London for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and on the major competion itself. the last few days we got to see many documentaries about the way people behave to win the price or to reach the goal on which so many eyes of the world are directed to.

There are certain elements that must feature in every Ceremony, as outlined in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) charter. The games do not come about without much controversy however. Discussions have arisen all over the internet about potential ”illuminati symbolism” plastered throughout London, and the coverage of the games.

It just so happens that sundown Friday 27thJuly is a very significant date on the Hebrew calendar. It is the 9th Av. The 9th Av is the date when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. The 9th Av was when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in AD70. The Bible says there is a third and final destruction coming. Could it be on the same date as the previous two? We don’t know. But we do know a third destruction is coming and it will see the return of the rightful King of Jerusalem – Jesus Christ…

The name of the Olympic Opening Ceremony show will be ‘Isles of Wonder’ and the worldwide broadcast will commence at 9pm. The Ceremony will kick off with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, produced by the Whitechapel Foundry, and the Stadium will be transformed into the British countryside for opening scene ‘Green and Pleasant’, which includes real farmyard animals. The Ceremony will also include a special sequence celebrating the best of British, featuring volunteer performers from the NHS.

Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, said: ‘Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people.’

The team said England would have to guarantee the safety of the athletes and the continuation of the Games, as well as make sure Israeli and Iranian athletes are kept away from each other.

Yedioth reported that the recommendations were passed on to the police, who practiced dealing with the mass protests that could erupt if war broke out.

July 18: Iran has been blamed for a terrorist attack on an Israeli tourist coach in Bulgaria that killed up to seven people at Burgas airport on Wednesday. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said Tehran was behind the attack near the popular Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach and warned of retaliatory measures targeting Iran.
“All the signs lead to Iran. Israel will respond forcefully to Iranian terror,” he said.

Netanyahu went on to say “This is an Iranian terror attack that is spreading throughout the entire world. Israel will react powerfully against Iranian terror. Only in the past few months we have seen Iranian attempts to attack Israelis in Thailand, India, Georgia, Kenya, Cyprus and other places.”
As the pressure increases on Iran it is clear that Iran is beginning to attack Israelis around the world. This week Iran is accused of killing 7 Israelis on a bus in Bulgaria.
God said he would “stir up the Medes”. In a latter day fulfilment of Isaiah 13:17 God is indeed stirring up the modern Medes (Iranians). In Psalm 83 we read of certain peoples who want to cut off Israel from being a nation. One of those nations who assists these people is Assyria (Assur in the AV). The empire of Assyria covered modern Iran.

For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: …They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. the Philistines [Palestinians] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Hezbollah] ; Assur [Iraq / Iran] also is joined with them: (Psalm 83:2,4,8)

July 19: fear and fighting on the streets of the Syrian capital. The killing of Defence Minister Daoud Rajiha, President Bashar al-Assad‘s brother-in-law Assef Shawkat and Gen Hassan Turkomani has shaken the country.

Initially it was reported that a suicide bomber had blown himself up in a Syrian high level security meeting killing 3 top military officials. It now transpires that their deaths were not caused by a suicide bomber but a 40-kilogram bomb hidden in the Syrian ministers’ conference room at the heavily fortified National Security building. This has led to intense fighting erupting in Damascus this week & tens of thousands are fleeing into neighbouring Lebanon. Damascus, as the headline says, is in the GRIP OF FEAR. How remarkable to see this headline and then read the same headline in the Bible written 2700 years ago! The prophecy in Jeremiah 49 links to the prophecy in Isaiah 17. Both speak of the final and complete destruction of Damascus. Notice it speaks of fear and anguish coming on Damascus THEREFORE all her men or war will be cut off. In Israel the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) has gone on alert and cancelled weekend leave. Israel is concerned with three different scenarios.

The tension now between America / Britain on the one side and Russia / China on the other is enormous. Russia refuses to allow any form of military intervention – and more than that refuses to countenance regime change.
One headline in an American paper this week said “Russia resists Western push for UN action in Syria”. This again is a Biblical headline. For Russia read “king of the north”. For Western read America and Britain or the “king of the south”. For the word push read the word push! Now read the verse below from Daniel 11. Daniel 11 is all about how the ancient Syrian based empire of the Seleucids fought against a southern enemy with Israel caught in the middle. It will be repeated at the time of the end.

Hersenspoeling en voortdurende intimidatie

Op 10 mei 2012 stelden de SGP-jongeren en het Wetenschappelijk Instituut voor de SGP in hun gezamenlijke publicatie ‘Toekomst voor Israël. Zicht op het conflict tussen Palestijnen en Joden’ dat ereen oplossing voor het Palestijns-Israëlisch conflict alleen dichterbij komt wanneer de Palestijnse leiders eerst bewijzen dat ze serieus vrede met Israël willen. Nu spreken ze vaak met dubbele tong. Richting de internationale media in de Engelse taal over vrede. Maar richting de eigen bevolking in het Arabisch over opstand en verzet. Vredesbesprekingen hebben dan geen enkele zin.

Al jaren sleept het explosief conflict in het Midden-Oosten aan. Dat conflict, met name tussen Israël en de Arabische staten, wordt een belangrijke factor van divergentie tussen de Europese en Amerikaanse publieke opinie. Langs beide zijden wordt het conflict bezien door middel van ‘partijdige’ ogen. De vraag is hoe lang wil de gemeenschap de eenzijdige bril ophouden.

Maar voor buitenstaanders is het ongelofelijk moeilijk om echt bepaalde waarheden te achterhalen doordat beide partijen de waarheid geweld aan doen. Niemand van de ‘lawaaimakers’ blijkt zuiver te zijn. In beide kampen kan men verkeerde dingen vinden. Zaken die tegen de borst stoten en mens onwaardig zijn.

Langs weerszijden trachten ze de pers naar hun kant te trekken, dat tot gevolg heeft dat men in de media-aandacht en politieke commentaar / analyse / acties meer en meer eenzijdige standpunten krijgt geformuleerd.

Geen enkele andere regio in de wereld of politieke kwestie heeft tot dergelijke politieke angst en onrust geleid als de problemen van Israël en de Palestijnen. Er zijn al zoveel oplossingen voor de problemen van de Israëlische regering en het Palestijnse volk voorgesteld geworden en er zijn er nog massa’s die zouden kunnen opgevolgd worden. In feite komt het er op aan om goede wil te tonen en om het lef te hebben om met een spons over het verleden te vegen. Maar buiten de politieke moed komt er ook het godsdienstig gegeven daar hoop op vrede worden tegengewerkt door conservatieve en religieuze radicalen aan beide zijden. Eveneens is er het wereldgebeuren plaatje met de verdeling van de machten, maar ook met de angst om posities op wereldvlak te verliezen, waarbij de invloed van buitenaf uit landen zoals de Verenigde Staten, Iran en Syrië een belangrijke rol spelen.

De oprichting van een Joodse staat was een noodzaak geworden in de twintigste eeuw omdat ook verscheidene staten daarin een oplossing zagen tegen het al een lange tijd wijd verspreide anti-semitisme in Europa. Vroeg anti-semitisme was geworteld in religieuze verschillen, maar het tijdperk van de Verlichting zorgde voor een nieuw radicaal en seculier antisemitisme in Europa. In 1917, onder de Balfour-verklaring, verklaarde de Britten hun grondgebied in Palestina een thuisland voor de Joden, Palestina, zijnde het voorouderlijk thuisland van de Joden.

Hierbij hadden de Britten echter over het hoofd gezien dat door de constante verschuiving van volkeren in die regio er al een tijdje een ander religieus volk in de regio woonde. Het probleem met de Britten die Palestina als een Joods thuisland verklaarden was dat Palestina voornamelijk werd bewoond door islamitische Palestijnen en zo goed als een aanzienlijke christelijke minderheid.

Ook al beloofde het plan om de rechten van degenen die al leefden in het Palestina niet te ondermijnen, groeiden meer en meer spanningen tussen de betrokken partijen. Grotendeels kwamen de moeilijkheden bij de massa’s immigranten. Russissche, Amerikaanse en andere Joden die allemaal trokken naar het Beloofde Land. Met de jaren groeide de spanningen tussen de nieuwe joodse immigranten en de Palestijnen. Naarmate meer en meer Joodse immigranten in Palestina kwamen, werden de spanningen nog erger. In een poging om de naburige Arabische gevoelens te sussen, deelden de Britten het oostelijk deel van Palestina in een apart gebied op dat bekendstaat als Trans-Jordanië, dat later het Koninkrijk Jordanië werd. Een Arabisch Palestijnse staat kwam nooit tot stand en werd voor jaren het woelwater.

Telken male er vredesonderhandelingen werden ondernomen vielen er meer slachtoffers.

Van kleins af groeiden kinderen onder de kibbelende volwassenen op om zo meer een meer een vertekend beeld te krijgen van de andere partij.

De Palestijnse omroep [PA TV (Fatah)] zendt regelmatig kinderprogramma’s uit die de kinderen moet helpen zich voor te bereiden op de eeuwige oorlog tegen de Joden en de Jodenstaat.

In de uitzending van 30 maart 2012 wordt hen in het vak Kunst & Handenarbeid door een jong Palestijns meisje voorgedaan hoe ze in een handomdraai een mooie kleurige kaart van Palestina kunnen maken. Met een schaar en papier wordt Palestina op ‘historische basis’ uitgeknipt.

Geborduurde kaart van Palestina

Dat daar Israël helemaal niet meer op voorkomt is geen toeval. Het toekomstige Palestina ‘vervangt’ de Joodse staat compleet. Geen spoor meer te merken van Joden of hun staat. En ja, die tweestatenoplossing waar zoveel om te doen is? Dat is een 1 april grap van de Palestijnen om de westerlingen wat te entertainen en waar ze nog alle dagen smakelijk om moeten om lachen. Geen van de Palestijnen wil dat.

Op 7 april 2012 werd door de televisiezender van de PA, die onder de controle staat van president Mahmoud Abbas van de Al Fatah beweging het kinderprogramma, getiteld ‘Het Beste Huis’ uitgezonden.

In the video clip, is te zien hoe de gastvrouw aan een Arabisch meisje vraagt: “Laila, wat wil je vandaag voor ons brengen?” waarop het meisje antwoordt met het voordragen van het volgende gedicht geschreven door een Egyptische schrijver:

“Toen ik jong was werd mij geleerd dat Arabisch-zijn mijn eer is…
en dat ons land zich uitstrekt van het ene einde tot het andere,
en dat onze oorlogen voor de Al Aksa Moskee waren,
en dat onze vijand, Zion, Satan is met een staart…
Onze verdeeldheid ligt in jullie handen [Arabische leiders].
Moge uw handen worden afgehakt.
Wij zijn onze verdeeldheid beu, terwijl alle volkeren zich verenigen.”

Waarop de gastvrouw het uitkrijst van vreugde: “Bravo, bravo, bravo”.

Verscheidene kinderen groeien op met de leuze “onze vijand, Zion, Satan is met een staart”. Als je ze jaren indrukt “zij zijn onze verdrukkers”, “kijk daar het kwaad van de wereld”, dan kan het niet anders dat de kinderen dat wel op de duur gaan geloven. Zeker als zij tegen zulk een muur moeten aankijken en constant geconfronteerd worden met mensonterende controleposten. Nooit zien zij een normale bewegingsvrijheid.

Voor de Palestijnse Autoriteit zijn die kinderen natuurlijk een gemakkelijke prooi om hen te voeten emt haat naar “de verdrukker”. Voortdurend brengen zij campagnes om Israël te delegitimiseren en demoniseren.

Er bestaan zelfs kinderkampen die de naam hebben gekregen van drie serieuze terroristen: Dalal Mughrabi, Salah Khalaf en Abu Ali Mustafa, en liejes met als tekst „Wij [PLO team] trokken vanuit Libanon op patrouille; zonder vrees voor [de] dood noch voor de duisternis van de cel. Op de kust vloeide het bloed van [Dalal] Mughrabi, de kleur van [rood] koraal op [witte] citroenbloemen.“ zijn schering en inslag.

De Palestijnse Autoriteit onderneemt nauwelijks iets om in de media de stem van haat tegen Israël tot zwijgen te brengen.

Israëlisch -Palestijns conflict

Volgens Prof. Dr. Hans Jansen: “Israël wordt niet alleen bedreigd door de Palestijnse Autoriteit (PA), maar door de hele islamitische wereld, die dagelijks wordt overspoeld door een endemische, giftige haat. Omdat in veel moslimlanden aanhangers van Mohammed in de media worden opgehitst Joden vijandig gezind te zijn, zal de giftige uitwerking hiervan van de ene op de andere generatie worden overgedragen. De gevaren die een dergelijke campagne van vijandschap en haat oproepen, scheppen een cultuur van de dood, waarvan vooral Arabische jongeren het slachtoffer zijn geworden. De tol die betaald moest worden, is schrikbarend hoog: sinds het einde van de 2de Wereldoorlog zijn twaalf miljoen moslims het slachtoffer geworden van oorlogen en andere vormen van geweld.”

Als er een wijdverspreide haat-campagne wordt gegeven in onderwijs, in lesprogramma’s op school, in preken van imams in moskeeën, in toespraken van politici, in televisie- en radioprogramma’s, in trainingen op zomerkampen, en last but not least in de elektronische media, hoe wil men dan een verzoening kunnen krijgen tussen deze volken?

Om de verhouding tussen de prediking van de catechese van haat door de Palestijnen en de gevolgen hiervan in hedendaagse taal te formuleren, deden Prof. Elihu Richter en prof. Israel Charney van de Hebreeuwse universiteit te Jeruzalem, al in 2009, toen de hoop voor een oplossing wegvaagde, in een brief aan de Israëlische regering een indringende oproep om de zogenaamde Declaration of Principles van de Oslo-akkoorden, die in 1993 tussen de PLO en de Israëlische regering waren gesloten, eindelijk eens serieus te nemen. In deze verklaring had de PLO ermee ingestemd dat het beëindigen van de haatcampagne tegen Israël een eerste vereiste, een conditio sine qua non is, om het vredesproces te doen slagen. Volgens genoemde hoogleraren hadden achtereenvolgende regeringen in Israël veel te weinig haar protest laten horen tegen het onmiskenbare feit dat de Palestijnse Autoriteit nauwelijks iets ondernam om in de media de stem van haat tegen Israël tot zwijgen te brengen. Richter en Charney laten sindsdien onophoudelijk horen dat dit protest eindelijk eens een integraal aspect dient te worden van de politiek van de Israëlische regering.

“Als verrijkt uranium en raketten de hardware zijn, dan is opruiende taal en aansporing tot vijandschap en haat tegen Israël de software. Je hebt de software nodig om de hardware aan te sturen”. stelden de wetenschappers.

Volgens hen moeten Israël en al diegenen in de wereld, die betrokken zijn bij de oplossing van het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict, nu onmiddellijk iets doen, wat zij nooit eerder hebben gedaan en wat zij wel, gezien de Declaration of Principles van de Oslo-akkoorden, hadden moeten doen. Zij moeten allereerst de wijdverspreide taal van haat en aansporing tot genocide en genocidale terreur definiëren, opsporen, controleren en registreren. Zij moeten het materiaal specificeren en van de Palestijnse Autoriteit tastbare resultaten eisen met betrekking tot het beëindigen van de haatcampagne tegen de Joodse staat. Omdat de PA die campagne blijft sponsoren, hebben we te maken met een zeer ernstige vorm van “staats”-antisemitisme!

De terreurgroep Palestijnse Islamitische Jihad lanceerde op 22 april 2012 een videoclip ter promotie van de Jihadische strijd om de vernietiging van de Joodse staat Israël. In het filmpje worden trainingen getoond van de Jodendoders van de terroristische Al-Quds Brigades (Saraya) in Gaza, de beruchte gewapende vleugel van de Islamitische Jihad. Uiteraard alles in het teken van de Islam, getuige de beelden van Mekka en de Rotskoepel op de Tempelberg, en het voortdurend tonen van de Koran, het handboek voor Jodenmoord van de ware Al Quds Brigadist. Verder op worden ook (getrukeerde) beelden getoond van Israëlische steden die in brand staan.

Islamitische Jihad bezweert: De steden in Israël zullen branden…

Op 23 april heeft de Israëlische afgevaardigde aan de Verenigde Naties, Ron Prosor, de Veiligheidsraad opgeroepen om de mythe van de waarheid te scheiden in de discussie omtrent het Midden-Oosten.

Prosor begon met de eis dat te weerleggen dat het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict het centrale conflict in het Midden-Oosten is, verwijzend naar de onlusten in Syrië, Jemen, Egypte, Bahrein en andere landen in het Midden-Oosten die geen verband houden met Israël.

“De obsessie voor Israël heeft de tanks van Bashar Al Assad niet kunnen beletten om hele gemeenschappen weg te vagen. Integendeel, het heeft enkel de aandacht van zijn misdaden afgeleid,” zei hij.

Betreffende Iran zei hij, “het grootste deel van de debatten wijden aan het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict, maand na maand, heeft de centrifuges van het Iraanse regime niet tegengehouden om verder te draaien. De ambities van Iran om atoomwapens te verwerven, zijn de enige en grootste bedreiging voor het Midden-Oosten en de volledige wereld.”

Voor sommigen lijkt het moeilijk om kritiek te leveren op de Joodse staat en te erkennen wat zij met de bevolking doen door een opwerping van een muur zoal zij ook achter muren werden afgezonderd. Hoe kunnen zij zich er wel bij voelen?

Indien zij het volle vertrouwen in hun God zouden leggen zouden zij niets te vrezen moeten hebben voor het verkrijgen van zeggenschap in Jeruzalem, want dat zal hen sowieso toe komen.

Ondertussen blijven beide partijen elkaar beschieten en van elkaar te zeggen dat de ander eerst begon. Juist kleine kinders, maar bengels die niet groter of volwassener lijken te worden.

Om werk te maken van een leefbaar gebied moet er bij de jongeren begonnen worden. Hen moet respect voor elkaar bij gebracht worden. van jongsaf aan moet men de mensen laten inzien dat enkel één democratische staat met gelijke rechten voor alle burgers de enige aanvaardbare en enige praktische oplossing is voor het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict, ook al zou het een confederale staat zijn. Maar om economisch en sociaal leefbaar te zijn moet er een democratische staat gevormd worden waarin elke Palestijnse vluchteling kan terugkeren naar zijn vroegere woning. Ook de joden moeten de mogelijkheid krijgen om overal te wonen in Eretz Yisrael (het Land van Israël). Best kan er voor gezorgd worden dat iedereen gemengd onder elkaar woont zodat er geen getto’s ontstaan. Palestijnen mogen niet langer worden gedwongen om te leven achter de muren en worden lastig gevallen bij checkpoints. Ook moet er op toegezien worden dat de afsluitingen van drinkbaar water of onmogelijkheid om tot waterbronnen te komen ongedaan wordt gemaakt. Ontbossing, het ontwortelen van olijfbomen of het slopen van woningen moet tegen gegaan worden.

Israëlische Joden zullen niet meer mogen worden verstoten door de wereld van aanhoudende schendingen van de mensenrechten; en de politieke leiders zullen niet langer de focus naar het conflict mogen verschuiven. Joodse en Arabische scholieren horen hetzelfde niveau van het onderwijs te krijgen en worden best voorzien van scholen die ook door de overheid worden gecontroleerd maar zuiver worden gehouden van indoctrinale slogans en eenzijdige berichtgeving.

Enkel als de staat met steun van de buitenwereld, de internationale gemeenschap, er zich op kan toeleggen om de geschillen tussen Israëliërs en Palestijnen weg te werken en zich te verzoenen met de Arabieren en met anders denkenden zal de economie weer gaan kunnen profiteren van een grotere groep werknemers en vernieuwers.

Een enkele democratische en seculiere staat is de enige aanvaardbare en praktische oplossing voor het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict en de enige weg vooruit. Door politiek het grondgebied te verenigenen en het synoniem maken van “nationaliteit” en “burgerschap” , zal Israël en Palestina in staat zijn om echt in de wereld te schitteren als een baken van vrijheid en kameraadschap.

Ecclesiastic scene undergoing rapid upheaval

All over the world there are political problems, whether the civil war looming in Sudan with its ramifications involving Germany, the UN and China or the Egyptian elections which will again effect Israel.

We have really neglected the ecological global catastrophe, but the internet is full of examples where in many parts of our world the lifestyle is drastically changing for many whose habitat is now temperate where it once was Arctic. Animals as well as humans are affected by this drastic and dramatic climate change. Each country is affected in some way.

The ecclesiastic scene is also undergoing rapid upheaval, especially the relationship of the Russian Orthodox Church with the Roman Catholic Vatican. Note the following:
“Patriarch Kirill is a theological conservative in the mould of Pope Benedict. Both see religion as the wellspring of culture. Both understand that Europe cannot escape a final capitulation to tyranny if it does not rediscover its Christian roots.”

Since his enthronement, Patriarch Kirill has offered his voice of clarity and authority to the growing Catholic and Orthodox critique of the decline of moral values and the hostility of the contemporary culture toward the Church. He openly decries the growing rejection of Christian influence throughout the world. He warns of the dangers that such a rejection present to civilization and authentic freedom.

Patriarch Kirill has repeatedly called upon Orthodox Christians to be actively involved in reclaiming the culture with the values informed by the ancient faith. Shortly after his selection, the Patriarch noted that, “in the Vatican and not only in the Vatican but all over the world, Catholics understand that Orthodox (people) are their allies. And Orthodox (people) are more and more coming to understand that Catholics are their allies in the face of hostile and non-religious secularism.”

There is a growing recognition that there is more that joins theologically faithful Catholics and theologically faithful Orthodox than that which separates us. The urgency of the cultural decline compels our collaboration in Christ. It is also leading us to a growing mutual respect which may pave the way toward some form of restored communion. While the European and Russian churches are forming an allegiance, Russia has a long-time plan to re-establish affiliations with Kazakhstan and the Ukraine.

For Russia, the recreation of a union is a strategic necessity. As Putin put it, the fall of the Soviet Union was a geopolitical catastrophe. Russia needs the economic integration, particularly given the new economic strategy of post-Soviet Russia, which is the export of raw materials, particularly energy.
Aligning with states such as Kazakhstan in energy and Ukraine in grain provides Moscow with leverage in the rest of the world, particularly in Europe. As important, it provides strategic depth.
The rest of the world knows that an invasion of Russia is inconceivable. The Russians can conceive of it. They remember that Germany in 1932 was crippled. By 1938 it was overwhelmingly powerful. Six years is not very long, and while such an evolution is unlikely now, from the Russian point of view, it must be taken seriously in the long run — planning for the worst and hoping for the best.

Therefore, the heart of Russian strategy, after resurrecting state power in Russia, is to create a system of relationships within the former Soviet Union that will provide economic alignment and strategic depth but not give Russia an unsustainable obligation to underwrite the other nations’ domestic policies. Unlike the Russian Empire or Soviet Union, Putin’s strategy is to take advantage of relationships on a roughly mutual basis without undertaking responsibility for the other nations. We can see that, with the discovery of large quantities of oil by Israel in the Mediterranean and shale oil in Israel itself, allowing Israel to plan for the supply of vast amounts of energy to Europe, Russia will do all it can to suppress such a plan.

The immediate future will be ‘interesting.’ The long-term could be catastrophic for those unaware of the Plan of God for this world – with Israel in particular.

His apology appeared neutrally worded, but the two detained women remain in jail pending trial despite the fact that they both have small children. A poll of 1,633 Russians in 130 cities, taken by the Levada Centre in mid-March, showed that 46 percent of those who had heard of the “punk service” believed two to seven years in prison to be a proper punishment for the women. Only 35 percent considered it too harsh.

In 2009 a board of trustees was established to restore the cathedral which is expected to be fully restored in time for the 100th anniversary of its first consecration, which will be celebrated in 2013.

Zalving van Christus als profetische repetitie van de begrafenisrituelen

Op onze Vlaamse website Broeders in Christus hebben wij Jezus bijnaam “Christus” of “Gezalfde” onder het voetlicht genomen in het artikel: Het begin van Jezus #12 Gezalfd na Johannes de Doper.

In het artikel wezen wij op de gedachtegang van vele christenen waarbij zij foutief de zalving van de Nazareen Jezus bij zijn doopsel nemen. Als men wil zou men die doop in de Jordaan op zijn dertigste als een figuurlijke zalving kunnen aannemen als men weet dat de zalving of balseming bij de Joden ook als symbool stond voor “reiniging” in de ogen van God. Ook de onderdompeling in water, zoals Johannes de Doper zijn neef Jezus volledig onder water bracht, diende als een symbolische daad van reiniging voor Jehovah God, waarbij men om de wegwassing van zonden vroeg.

Ook al had Jezus nog geen enkele zonde begaan, en zou hij in zijn verdere loopbaan ook geen zonden doen, verzocht Jezus toch over te gaan tot een doop in het stromende water, zodat hij als zich als nieuwe bron van eeuwig water uit het water kon oprichten.

Nadat hij uit het water kwam was er Gods Geest die onder de vorm van een duif over de biddende Jezus neerdaalde en voor iedereen ten gehore bracht dat dit de geliefde zoon was van God: God zijn welbeminde Zoonin wie Hij welbehagen heeft.

“Terwijl al het volk zich liet dopen, en Jezus na zijn doop in gebed was, geschiedde het dat de hemel openging en de heilige Geest, in lichamelijke gedaante als een duif, over Hem neerdaalde, en een stem uit de hemel sprak: ‘Gij zijt mijn Zoon, de welbeminde, in U heb ik mijn behagen gesteld.’” (Lukas 3:21-22 WV78)

Op dat moment krijgen wij een eerste openbaring van God over deze loonarbeider, die zich daarvoor in het gezin van Jozef en Maria uit de stam van David stil heeft gehouden en mee voor het gezin heeft voorzien, zoals gebruikelijk.

Dertig jaar eerder was hij volgens de Joodse gebruiken ook door zijn ouders in de tempel aangeboden geworden, besneden en gezalfd. Toen hij acht dagen oud was werd hij in Jeruzalem opgedragen om een “kind van God” en “zoon van Israël” te worden. De besnijdenis en zalving waren tekenen van opname in het Joodse Volk als lid van het Volk van God. Daar gebeurde dan in de toekomstige hoofdstad van het Koninkrijk van God de overdracht van het gewone mensenkind tot “kind van God” en werd Jezus ook een Gezalfde.

Maar na die eerste zalving zouden nog drie zalvingen door gaan en een vierde vond slechts gedeeltelijk plaats, want de eigenlijke volledige balseming moest nog gebeuren toen Maria van Magdala ook gekend onder de naam Maria Magdalena met Salomé en Maria, de moeder van Jakobus met hun kruiden, om het lichaam van Jezus te balsemen, aankwamen aan het lege graf waarin Jezus was gelegd, maar nu uit bleek te zijn verdwenen.

Enkele dagen daar voor was Jezus letterlijk al gezalfd geworden en figuurlijk als het ‘dode lichaam’ gebalsemd.

Zes dagen voor het Pascha of Pesach wanneer de “kruisiging” zou plaatsvinden vinden we יהושע , Jeshua, nu beter gekend onder de naam Jezus, met zijn discipelen in Bĕyth Anyahof Bethanië, in het huis van de verrezen Lazarus en zijn twee zusters Maria en Martha (Johannes 11:1,2

Bij de tweede zalving van Jezus , die plaats greep in Galilea bij Judea en Samaria, was er een albasten kruik met balsem en droeg een zondares met haar haar Jezus ‘voeten, waarbij Yehuḏah uit Qerioth (Jehoeda van Qerioth), nu beter gekend als Judas Iskariot, de zoon van Shimʽonn, kloeg over verspilling van de kostbare zalf van nardus.

Nu ook weer, bij de derde zalving, toen Maria, na het nemen van een litra [ongeveer 12 ounces of 340 gram] zeer waardevolle, zuivere nardus zalf, de voeten van Jezus zalfde en zijn voeten met haar haren afdroogde werd er geprotesteerd.

Maria trad op als wilde zij een dienaar zijn en haar Meester reinigen. Zij nam een nederige houding aan, zoals Jezus enkele dagen later ook de voeten van zijn leerlingen zou gaan wassen. Met haar gebaar wilde Maria misschien ook wel zo zuiver van hart worden zoals hij, die helemaal niet moest gereinigd worden omdat er geen enkele smet op hem viel te bespeuren. Jezus was zonder enige fout, dus zonder zonde, zonder schuld. Maar die reiniging kon ook staan voor het wegwassen van de problemen, alle angst, alle onvrede, en om alle ontmoediging af te weren.

Maria balsemt Jezus voeten

Maria wilde niet haarzelf behagen en zichzelf eer toe eigenen. Zij zag op naar Jezus en vond zulk een gebruik van dure oliën geen verspilling. Maar de op geld beluste Judas en de andere apostelen vonden het ongehoord. Zij vonden dat dit geld beter werd besteed aan de mensen die het nodig hadden.

Maar in wezen hebben de mensen niet het letterlijke brood en water nodig. God voorziet dat alles in Zijn Schepping. Het levende water en het levende brood waarvan Jezus de Bron is, zijn het belangrijkste en het noodzakelijke voor de mensheid. Jezus is het licht dat leven brengt op aarde en zal zo moeten erkend worden. Ook al was Jezus ontsproten uit Heilige Geest en het zaad uit de geslachtslijn van David, moest dit menselijk wezen ook de dood ondergaan zoals het graan kiemt, opgroeit tot koren en dan wordt afgedaan om het graan te dorsen en het vermalen meel te gebruiken tot brood dat in leven kan houden.

Judas Iskariot, zoon van Simon, en de anderen van het gezelschap in het huis van de ander Simon (de melaatse) kregen van Jezus te horen dat hij het licht is dat nu even zal ‘uitgedoofd’ worden door mensen.
Jezus verwees naar de zalving aan zijn komende dood en begrafenis, waarbij meestal ook de dode lichamen worden gebalsemd. Hier vinden we het teken van de zalving en het balsemen van de Gezalfde Dode en de detentie van aardse ontbinding of vernietiging.

De vele mensen die zich rond het huis hadden geschaard kwamen toen niet enkel om Jezus te zien maar wensten eerder Elʽazar, of Lazarus, te zien die Jezus uit de dood had opgewekt. Toen zagen noch de toeschouwers noch de leerlingen dat die opstanding een voorafschaduwing zou zijn van wat God met Jezus en vele andere mensen zou gaan doen. Door die terugbrenging uit de dood was Lazarus een gevaarlijk teken dat het geloof in Jezus kon verzekeren. Daarom moest deze met Jezus ook ter dood gebracht worden zodat de mensen niet meer in Jezus zouden geloven.

“Zes dagen voor Pasen kwam Jezus te Betanie, waar Lazarus woonde, die Hij uit de doden had opgewekt. Men gaf daar ter ere van Hem een maaltijd. Maria bediende en Lazarus was een van degenen die met Hem aanlagen. Maria nu nam een pond nardusbalsem, echte en heel kostbare, zalfde daarmee Jezus’ voeten en droogde ze met haar haren af. Het huis hing vol balsemgeur. Daarop zei Judas Iskariot, een van zijn leerlingen, dezelfde die Hem zou uitleveren: ’Waarom is die balsem niet voor driehonderd denaries verkocht en het geld aan de armen gegeven?’ Hij zei dat, niet omdat hij bezorgd was voor armen, maar omdat hij een dief was en uit de beurs die hij bewaarde, wegnam wat erin kwam. Jezus echter zei: ‘Laat haar begaan. Zij heeft dit gebruik onderhouden, vooruitlopend op de dag van mijn begrafenis. Want de armen houdt gij altijd bij u. Mij echter niet altijd.’ Intussen waren heel veel Joden te weten gekomen dat Jezus daar was, en kwamen erheen niet alleen omwille van Jezus, maar ook om Lazarus te zien die Hij uit de doden had opgewekt. De hogepriesters besloten toen ook Lazarus uit de weg te ruimen, omdat om hem veel Joden wegliepen en in Jezus geloofden.” (Johannes 12:1-11 WV78)

De royale toon van Jezus zijn voorspelling, opmerkelijk voldaan, staat in schril contrast met het gemiddelde protest van de discipelen. De discipelen hadden kritiek op die uitbundige lof die Maria gaf.

Judas Iskariot was ontgoocheld geraakt dat zijn verwachtingen niet ingelost waren. In Jezus dacht hij de beloofde “Messias” gevonden te hebben die hen uit de handen van de Romeinen zou komen verlossen. Maar uiteindelijk bleek hij geen strijder gevonden te hebben, maar iemand die pacifisme predikte en de kalmte zelf bleek te zijn. Die prediker, die wel veel aandacht van zijn toehoorders kreeg, bleek alsmaar te praten van vrede, maar ook van nederigheid, offer, rust en afwezigheid van rijkdom tot zelfs het afstand nemen van enige vorm van rijkdom, terwijl Judas juist zo veel hield van alles dat naar geld en rijkdom rook. Deze Jezus had zo weinig waardering van de waarde van geld. Judas had geen liefde voor de armen, (Johannes 12:6.10-11). Jezus stond ver af van verzet tegen pogingen om het pauperisme te veroveren, en nu merkte hij zelfs gewoon een feit dat, nadat hij weg gegaan zal zijn, de discipelen ruimschoots de gelegenheid zouden hebben om te zorgen voor de armen.

Hier zag hij die leermeester het zelfs niet erg vinden dat deze zalf niet verkocht werd voor driehonderd penningen [dat wil zeggen, 300 dagen loon of een heel jaarsalaris ,of een Romeinse legionairs zestien maanden 'loon] om aan armen mensen uit te delen. Maar Maria vond haar vriend die Lazarus uit de doden opgewekt had zoveel waard of zelfs meer. Ook wij moeten ons bewust zijn van de ‘hoge kostprijs’ van Jezus, die meer dan de 10 maanden of meer lonen waard is.

Terwijl Maria een grote som geld offerde om haar liefde te tonen aan Jezus, verkocht Judas hem daarop voor de ‘huur van een slaaf’ en werd voor zijn verraad het equivalent van 120 denarie betaald. De dertig zilverlingen zijn staters (oude Griekse munten) die als som bij wet voorgeschreven werden voor het betalen van een slaaf. De prijs van een menselijke persoon (een slaaf; Exodus 21:32) werd daarom ook zo gekozen door de priesters tot vergoeding.

Voor hen was Jezus nog steeds met hen, maar ze moesten weten dat ze Jezus niet altijd rond zich zouden hebben. “Want de armen heb je altijd met jezelf, maar mij heb je niet altijd bij je.” (Johannes 12:8) Dit is wat Maria waarnam met haar tere vrouwelijke intuïtie en wat de apostelen niet begrepen al had Jezus het hen herhaaldelijk en duidelijk verteld. Voor haar acties zou deze daad en vrouw worden onthouden. Omdat we hier een profetische repetitie van de begrafenisrituelen kregen aangeboden.

“Voorwaar, Ik zeg u: waar ook ter wereld de Blijde Boodschap verkondigd zal worden, zal tevens ter herinnering aan haar verhaald worden wat zij gedaan heeft.’” (Markus 14:9 + Mattheüs 26:13 WV78)

Hoewel het brood zou hebben gekocht voor duizenden werd hier het levende brood voorbereid. En dat brood zou voor miljarden mensen ten goede zijn. Zo zouden de tweehonderd denariën of tweehonderd zilverlingen ter waarde van brood niet voldoende zijn voor hen, voor ieder van hen een beetje te ontvangen, is het brood dat ons is voor bereid zo veel meer waard. (Johannes 6:7 )

Door deze zalving van Jezus, zou eens te meer de wereld een vinden kunnen vinden dat hij de beloofde Christus (= de gezalfde) of Messias was.

Jezus wast als nederige dienaar de voeten van zijn leerlingen

Later toen Jezus op een andere maaltijd, bij zijn Laatste Avondmaal het brood zou nemen om het te zegenen krijgen we het eind van de Mozaïsche bedeling. Het ware Paaslam was Christus Jezus, en hij was nu klaar voor het offer. Maar op het uur dat hij werd aangeboden, waren ongelovige joden nog nutteloos bloed in de tempel aan het offeren. Het Heilig Avondmaal nam nu de plaats van de Oude Testament ceremonies in en hoort herdacht te worden op 14 Nisan bij elke ware volgeling van Christus. Het is een herinnering aan de aanbieding van Christus als een geschenk en offer, een gelijkenis van de ware aard van het christendom – Christus Jesus die een deel van ons, wordt en een profetie van zijn toekomstige komst en glorie weerspiegelt.

De priesters wilden Jezus niet ter dood te brengen tijdens het Pesach-feest, maar zouden het uiteindelijk toch doen. Het Pascha als een heilige feest, herinnerde zich de bevrijding van Israël uit Egypte, dat de centrale daad van verlossing was in het Oude Testament. Nu zal Jezus zorgen voor een nieuw centrum van de verlossing. In hem vinden we het meest verheven Lam en offer voor God. Hij is het meest volmaakte Zoenoffer. Deze keer niet een dier en niet een onschuldig kind die dat niet in een geschil kan treden (als Isaak), maar een volwassen man die een vrije wil en genoeg inzicht had om zich bewust te zijn van zijn daden en met voldoende inzicht in wat er ging gebeuren.

In Christus Jezus hebben wij leven over dood gevonden. De zalving van zijn voeten was een voorteken van de balseming van de man die stierf voor onze zonden, verhoogd werd en zo tot koning werd gebalsemd.

De Dag is nabij #8 Overzicht

10-11 Maart 2012 mag als een fijn studieweekeinde beschouwt worden waar de dagen in Nederland en België elkaar mooi aanvulden, vooral met de afsluiting met de hoofdstukken uit Daniël. Wel kwam duidelijk tot uiting dat wij meerdere studiedagen over de eindtijden konden gebruiken alleen al met het bekijken van de profetieën in Daniel en Jesaja over de vooruitzichten die wij mogen verwachten.

Zaterdag vatte aan met de kijk op wat de gebruikelijke reactie is op het reageren van verschillende groepen wanneer verscheidene verschijnselen samen vallen. Ook kan men er niet naast zien dat bepaalde beschrijvingen ook op meerdere dingen kunnen geplaatst worden. Ook zijn er in het verleden vele waarschuwingen geweest die de mensen al of niet konden opvolgen. Maar zoals Rudolf Rijkeboer en Mark Hale ook aantoonden zouden deze gebeurtenissen uit het verleden voldoende lessen moeten zijn voor de volgende generaties na die feiten. Ook wij horen uit die lessen van het verleden te leren zodat wij geen schrik hoeven te hebben voor wat zal komen. ((2° Studie, door Mark Hale)

In de 1° studie ging Rudolf Rijkeboer in op de vraag hoe wij kunnen weten of de wederkomst voor de deur staat. Ook kwam hij met enkele hypotheses aandraven. Stel dat het de laatste dagen zouden zijn, waar staan wij dan en welke actie kunnen wij dan ondernemen?

Indien wij nu allemaal tekenen zouden zien welke duiden op het einde der Tijden, moeten wij dan ook niet beseffen dat het slechts weeën kunnen zijn?

Jeremia treurend over de verwoesting van Jeruzalem – 1630 Rembrandt

“En gij zult horen van oorlogen, en geruchten van oorlogen; ziet toe, wordt niet verschrikt; want al [die] dingen moeten geschieden, maar nog is het einde niet. Want het [ene] volk zal tegen het [andere] volk opstaan, en het [ene] koninkrijk tegen het [andere] koninkrijk; en er zullen zijn hongersnoden, en pestilentien, en aardbevingen in verscheidene plaatsen. Doch al die dingen [zijn] [maar] een beginsel der smarten.” (Mattheüs 24:6-8 STV)
“En leert van den vijgeboom deze gelijkenis: wanneer zijn tak nu teder wordt, en de bladeren uitspruiten, zo weet gij, dat de zomer nabij is. Alzo ook gijlieden, wanneer gij al deze dingen zult zien, zo weet, dat [het] nabij is, voor de deur.” (Mattheüs 24:32-33 STV)
“Want Ik zal alle heidenen tegen Jeruzalem ten strijde verzamelen; en de stad zal ingenomen, en de huizen zullen geplunderd, en de vrouwen zullen geschonden worden; en de helft der stad zal uitgaan in de gevangenis; maar het overige des volks zal uit de stad niet uitgeroeid worden. En de HEERE zal uittrekken, en Hij zal strijden tegen die heidenen, gelijk ten dage als Hij gestreden heeft, ten dage des strijds. En Zijn voeten zullen te dien dage staan op den Olijfberg, die voor Jeruzalem ligt, tegen het oosten; en de Olijfberg zal in tweeen gespleten worden naar het oosten, en naar het westen, [zodat] er een zeer grote vallei zal zijn; en de ene helft des bergs zal wijken naar het noorden, en de helft deszelven naar het zuiden.” (Zacharia 14:2-4 STV)

De Heilige Schrift meldt ons dat alle volkeren samen zullen optrekken tegen Jeruzalem. Die strijd tegen Jeruzalem en de Israëlieten kunnen wij ook vandaag zien. Sommige westerlingen willen hier dan ook tegen reageren. Maar daar bij kan men de vraag stellen of wij, als wij dit doen als Christenen, niet ingaan tegen het verloop van Gods Plan?

Rijkeboer vergeleek het met een Routekaart van de Wederkomst of een spoorboekje, waarbij men moest zoeken naar de juiste trein en juiste richting, maar ook de beste connectie in die dienstregeling. Hoe past het aan elkaar? wij zien wel dat Spoorboekje naar de Eindtijd, maar kan iedereen wel de fragmenten in de Bijbelboeken mooi in elkaar passen?

Hierbij moeten wij opletten dat wij ons niet laten misleiden en de nodige aanwijzingen goed opvolgen.

De Bijbel is doorspekt met richtgevingen en nodige aanwijzingen. In de historische schetsen die Rijkeboer en Mark Hale gaven kon men duidelijk zien hoe God Zijn Volk geleid heeft maar ook hoe naar de mensheid toe een duidelijk reisplan is voorgelegd geworden. Naargelang men lessen zal trekken uit dat verleden zal men schrik of troost kunnen vinden volgens Hale.

De vernietiging van Sodom en Gomorra – 1852 John Martin (1789–1854)

Hoe men het draait of keert kan men niet om de dagen van Noach, de Vloed, Sodom en Gomorra heen en moet men kijken wat er met Mesopotanië en Egypte gebeurde. Eveneens moet men de ondergang van Jeruzalem in 70 Gt in ogenschouw nemen, waarbij men een herhaling zag van de eerdere ondergang van de Babylonische Ballingschap. (Jeremia)

Een opvallend terugkomend gegeven is hoe de volkeren, zelfs Israël, in die geschiedenis van verwoestingen minachting voor God had op die ogenblikken dat men vervullingen kreeg van wat voorheen profeten, boodschappers van God, hadden aangekondigd.

“En wie overgebleven was van het zwaard, voerde hij weg naar Babel, en zij werden hem en zijn zonen tot knechten, tot het regeren des koninkrijks van Perzie; Opdat het woord des HEEREN vervuld wierd, door den mond van Jeremia, totdat het land aan zijn sabbatten een welgevallen had; het rustte al de dagen der verwoesting, totdat de zeventig jaren vervuld waren.” (2 Kronieken 36:20-21 STV)

Mark Hale wees er op dat wij telkens een politiek verhaal zien dat passend was in het Plan van God, en steeds aansluitend was bij wat God voorspeld heeft.

“Hoort dit woord, dat de HEERE tegen ulieden spreekt, gij kinderen van Israel! namelijk tegen het ganse geslacht, dat Ik uit Egypteland heb opgevoerd, zeggende: Uit alle geslachten des aardbodems heb Ik ulieden alleen gekend; daarom zal Ik al uw ongerechtigheden over ulieden bezoeken. Zullen twee te zamen wandelen, tenzij dat zij bijeengekomen zijn? Zal een leeuw brullen in het woud, als hij geen roof heeft? Zal een jonge leeuw uit zijn hol zijn stem verheffen, tenzij dat hij [wat] gevangen hebbe? Zal een vogel in den strik op de aarde vallen, als er geen strik voor hem is? Zal men den strik van den aardbodem opnemen, als men ganselijk niet heeft gevangen? Zal de bazuin in de stad geblazen worden, dat het volk niet siddere? zal er een kwaad in de stad zijn, dat de HEERE niet doet? Gewisselijk, de Heere HEERE zal geen ding doen, tenzij Hij Zijn verborgenheid aan Zijn knechten, de profeten, geopenbaard hebbe.” (Amos 3:1-7 STV)

Steeds kunnen wij zien dat God niets doet zonder zijn Plan te onthullen. God waarschuwt gelovigen terwijl de ongelovigen zich laten verrassen ondanks Gods geduld. toch konden gelovigen ook niet onder gebeurtenissen onderuit. Allen werden getroffen. Iedereen moest alles ondergaan als les zonder te verdienen.

“Daarom, zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Omdat gij Mijn woorden niet hebt gehoord; Ziet, Ik zal zenden, en nemen alle geslachten van het noorden, spreekt de HEERE; en tot Nebukadnezar, den koning van Babel, Mijn knecht; en zal ze brengen over dit land, en over de inwoners van hetzelve, en over al deze volken rondom; en Ik zal ze verbannen, en zal ze stellen tot een ontzetting, en tot een aanfluiting, en tot eeuwige woestheden.” (Jeremia 25:8-9 STV)

Toch kunnen wij, volgens Mark Hale, een hoop koesteren in het vertrouwen. Ofwel kunnen wij schrik hebben ofwel troost. Maar zoals wij bij Rachab kunnen zien en bij de vloed en Sodom en Gomorra, is er steeds een redding uit de ongelovige wereld geboden. Maar hiervoor heeft God steeds een daad van geloof gevraagd. Ook al hield die daad van geloof in alles achter te laten en te vluchten zonder dat het duidelijk was wat er zou gaan gebeuren. Dat zien wij bij de opdracht tot het bouwen van de Ark en bij de redding uit Jericho van Rachab.

“En gelijk het geschied is in de dagen van Noach, alzo zal het ook zijn in de dagen van den Zoon des mensen. Zij aten, zij dronken, zij namen ten huwelijk, zij werden ten huwelijk gegeven, tot den dag, op welken Noach in de ark ging, en de zondvloed kwam, en verdierf ze allen.” (Lukas 17:26-27 STV)
“Door het geloof heeft Noach, door Goddelijke aanspraak vermaand zijnde van de dingen, die nog niet gezien werden, [en] bevreesd geworden zijnde, de ark toebereid tot behoudenis van zijn huisgezin; door welke [ark] hij de wereld heeft veroordeeld, en is geworden een erfgenaam der rechtvaardigheid, die naar het geloof is.” (Hebreeën 11:7 STV)
“Die eertijds ongehoorzaam waren, wanneer de lankmoedigheid Gods eenmaal verwachtte, in de dagen van Noach, als de ark toebereid werd; waarin weinige (dat is acht) zielen behouden werden door het water.” (1 Petrus 3:20 STV)
“En de oude wereld niet heeft gespaard, maar Noach, den prediker der gerechtigheid, zijn achttal bewaard heeft, als Hij den zondvloed over de wereld der goddelozen heeft gebracht;” (2 Petrus 2:5 STV)

“En zij sprak tot die mannen: Ik weet, dat de HEERE u dit land gegeven heeft, en dat ulieder verschrikking op ons gevallen is, en dat al de inwoners dezes lands voor ulieder aangezicht gesmolten zijn.” (Jozua 2:9 STV)
“Door het geloof is Rachab, de hoer, niet omgekomen met de ongehoorzamen, als zij de verspieders met vrede had ontvangen.” (Hebreeën 11:31 STV)

In het weekend werden ook drie voorbeelden van geloof en vertrouwen naar voor gebracht en hun handelingen onder de loep genomen.

“Mensenkind, als een land tegen Mij gezondigd zal hebben, zwaarlijk overtredende, zo zal Ik Mijn hand daartegen uitstrekken, en zal hetzelve den staf des broods breken, en een honger daarin zenden, dat Ik daaruit mensen en beesten uitroeie; Ofschoon deze drie mannen, Noach, Daniel en Job, in het midden deszelven waren, zij zouden door hun gerechtigheid [alleen] hun ziel bevrijden, spreekt de Heere HEERE. Zo Ik het boos gedierte make door het land door te gaan, hetwelk dat van kinderen berove, zodat het woest worde, dat er niemand doorga, vanwege het gedierte; Die drie mannen in het midden deszelven zijnde, zo [waarachtig] [als] Ik leef, spreekt de Heere HEERE, zo zij zonen, en zo zij dochteren bevrijden zouden, zij zelven alleen zouden bevrijd worden, maar het land zou woest worden. Of [als] Ik het zwaard brenge over datzelve land, en zegge: Zwaard! ga door, door dat land, zodat Ik daarvan uitroeie mensen en beesten; Ofschoon die drie mannen in het midden deszelven waren, zo [waarachtig] [als] Ik leef, spreekt de Heere HEERE, zij zouden zonen noch dochteren bevrijden, maar zij zelven alleen zouden bevrijd worden. Of [als] Ik de pestilentie in datzelve land zende, en Mijn grimmigheid daarover met bloed uitgiete, om daarvan mensen en beesten uit te roeien; Ofschoon Noach, Daniel en Job in het midden deszelven waren, [zo] [waarachtig] [als] Ik leef, spreekt de Heere HEERE, zo zij een zoon, [of] zo zij een dochter zouden bevrijden, zij zouden [alleen] hun ziel door hun gerechtigheid bevrijden. Want alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Hoeveel te meer als Ik mijn vier boze gerichten, het zwaard, en den honger, en het boze gedierte, en de pestilentie gezonden zal hebben tegen Jeruzalem, om daaruit mensen en beesten uit te roeien! Doch ziet, daarin zullen ontkomenen overblijven, die uitgevoerd zullen worden, zonen en dochteren; ziet, zij zullen tot ulieden uitkomen, en gij zult hun weg zien, en hun handelingen; en gij zult vertroost worden over het kwaad, dat Ik over Jeruzalem gebracht zal hebben, [ja], al wat Ik zal gebracht hebben over haar. Zo zullen zij u vertroosten, als gij hun weg en hun handelingen zien zult; en gij zult weten, dat Ik niet zonder oorzaak gedaan heb, al wat Ik in haar gedaan heb, spreekt de Heere HEERE.” (Ezechiël 14:13-23 STV)

Bij hen konden wij zien dat mensen konden ontkomen en dat er een verzoenen en begrijpen was, maar steeds niet zonder reden.

Rudolf Rijkeboer sprak in de 3° studie over de lessen die wij uit het verleden kunnen trekken.

Uit de geschiedenis en de opgetekende gebeurtenissen uit de Bijbel kunnen wij opmaken dat de mens zelf een oordeel over zijn eigen handelen brengt. Maar dat de wereldheersers hun eigen agenda toch precies past in Gods Plan. God leidt de geschiedenis door het handelen van mensen (gelovigen en niet-gelovigen). Wel valt daarbij op dat de gelovige Gods Hand ziet in het van te voren voorzegde, waaruit kennis volgt. De gelovige herkent de hand van God en kan daarin vertrouwen vinden terwijl de ongelovige die hand van God niet ziet. De ongelovige blijft dan ook zitten met een enorme onzekerheid en wordt meestal door angst bevallen.

Rudolf Rijkeboer gaf in de 3° studie een zeer mooie Les uit het verleden, waarbij hij van af de 2° eeuw voor de gewone tijdrekening keek naar Alexander de Grote die Juda aanviel onder het bestuur van de Seleuciden en zo tot Antiochus IV of Epifanes kwam, over wie ook in de zondag studie (in België) werd gesproken toen de tijdsbepalingen van Daniël onder de loep werden genomen.

Met Epifanes die de Joden een vreemd element in zijn rijk beschouwde werd de Joodse godsdienst getracht te vervangen door de Griekse dat tot gevolg de opstand van de Joden had. (Opstand van de Makkabeeën)

In 165 vGT kon Judea zich vrij en onafhankelijk krijgen en tot een herinwijding van de tempel komen.

“Want er zullen schepen van Chittim tegen hem komen, daarom zal hij met smart bevangen worden, en hij zal wederkeren, en gram worden tegen het heilig verbond, en hij zal het doen; want wederkerende zal hij acht geven op de verlaters des heiligen verbonds. En er zullen armen uit hem ontstaan, en zij zullen het heiligdom ontheiligen, [en] de sterkte, en zij zullen het gedurige [offer] wegnemen, en een verwoestenden gruwel stellen. En die goddelooslijk handelen tegen het verbond, zal hij doen huichelen door vleierijen; maar het volk, die hun God kennen, zullen zij grijpen, en zullen het doen.” (Daniël 11:30-32 STV)

Toen had men een gruwel die verwoesting bracht en een krachtig verzet.

100 jaar later moest het volk echter terug een inlijving onder het Romeinse Rijk ondergaan (65vGT) waarbij een toenemende druk op de Joden komt om te integreren in de Griekse cultuur. Nadat Caligula en Nero zich al lieten vereren als goden kwam in 66 de eerste opstand waarbij in 70 de afrekening kwam: een oordeel maar geen bevrijding.

Ook al had Jezus de religieuze leiders aangekondigd dat er onschuldig bloed zou vloeien op deze generatie en dat de maat vol was en dat de tempel opnieuw een rovershol zou zijn. Hij duidde er al op dat niet de aanwezigheid van de tempel belangrijk was maar dat eerder het gedrag bijzonder was. God geeft keuze tussen leven en dood en verwacht van de mens dat deze de juiste keuze maakt tussen de normen en waarden die nodig zijn om werkelijk te overleven.

“Gij [dan] ook, vervult de mate uwer vaderen! Gij slangen, gij adderengebroedsels! hoe zoudt gij de helse verdoemenis ontvlieden? Daarom ziet, Ik zende tot u profeten, en wijzen, en schriftgeleerden, en uit dezelve zult gij [sommigen] doden en kruisigen, en [sommigen] uit dezelve zult gij geselen in uw synagogen, en zult hen vervolgen van stad tot stad; Opdat op u kome al het rechtvaardige bloed, dat vergoten is op de aarde, van het bloed des rechtvaardigen Abels af, tot op het bloed van Zacharia, den zoon van Barachia, welken gij gedood hebt tussen den tempel en het altaar. Voorwaar zeg Ik u: Al deze dingen zullen komen over dit geslacht.” (Mattheüs 23:32-36 STV)
“En zeide tot hem: Vriend! hoe zijt gij hier ingekomen, geen bruiloftskleed [aan] hebbende? En hij verstomde. Toen zeide de koning tot de dienaars: Bindt zijn handen en voeten, neemt hem weg, en werpt [hem] uit in de buitenste duisternis; daar zal zijn wening en knersing der tanden.” (Mattheüs 22:12-13 STV)
“En wij bidden u, broeders, door de toekomst van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, en onze toevergadering tot Hem, Dat gij niet haastelijk bewogen wordt van verstand, of verschrikt, noch door geest, noch door woord, noch door zendbrief, als van ons [geschreven], alsof de dag van Christus aanstaande ware. Dat u niemand verleide op enigerlei wijze; want [die] [komt] [niet], tenzij dat eerst de afval gekomen zij, en dat geopenbaard zij de mens der zonde, de zoon des verderfs;” (2 Thessalonicen 2:1-3 STV)
“En Jezus, antwoordende, zeide tot hen: Ziet toe, dat u niemand verleide.” (Mattheüs 24:4 STV)
“En vele valse profeten zullen opstaan, en zullen er velen verleiden.” (Mattheüs 24:11 STV)

Er werd ons geschetst van hoe wij zouden kunnen reageren en welke keuzes wij zouden kunnen maken met de daaraan verbonden risico’s.

Er werd gekeken naar diegenen die geduldig wachtten en niets bemerkten, diegenen die de waarschuwing niet serieus namen en de verwarring met Gods geduld en Gods tolerantie. Ook werd er aangetoond hoe in vele gevallen in het verleden de mensen te veel bezig waren met politieke zaken, één van de tekenen der tijden.

In de 4° studie keek Mark Hale naar 2 aspecten: het oordeel vergeleken met de vloed en het oordeel als een schifting tussen waakzamen en diegenen met valse verwachtingen. (Mattheus 24)

“Maar de tegenwoordige hemelen en de aarde zijn door hetzelfde woord als een schat weggelegd, ten vure bewaard tegen de dag van het oordeel en van de ondergang der goddeloze mensen.” (2 Petrus 3:7 NBG51)
“En er zullen tekenen zijn aan zon en maan en sterren, en op de aarde radeloze angst onder de volken vanwege het bulderen van zee en branding, terwijl de mensen bezwijmen van vrees en angst voor de dingen, die over de wereld komen. Want de machten der hemelen zullen wankelen.” (Lukas 21:25-26 NBG51)
“Al wat namelijk tevoren geschreven is, werd tot ons onderricht geschreven, opdat wij in de weg der volharding en van de vertroosting der Schriften de hoop zouden vasthouden.” (Romeinen 15:4 NBG51)
“Ziet dan toe, dat gij Hem, die spreekt, niet afwijst. Want als genen niet ontkomen zijn, toen zij Hem afwezen, die zijn godsspraak op aarde deed horen, hoeveel te minder wij, als wij ons afwenden van Hem, die uit de hemelen [spreekt].” (Hebreeën 12:25 NBG51)
“De nacht is ver gevorderd, de dag is nabij. Laten wij dan de werken der duisternis afleggen en aandoen de wapenen des lichts!” (Romeinen 13:12 NBG51)

Kan de mens oorlog ontvluchten? Soldaten en vluchtelingen in verschillende oorlogstijd activiteiten – vechtend, leidend, vluchtend en huilend – Oorlogsmonument, Seoul

Zo kunnen wij gewaarschuwd zijn niet spoedig onze zinnen te verliezen en onze aandacht bij het juiste te houden. Steeds zal men in de wereld een soort mensen vinden die wetteloos zijn, verleiders en goddelozen. Maar deze zullen eveneens een wetsverwachting of een bepaald lot moeten ondergaan.
Door hun handelen zullen zij tonen aan welke kant zij staan. Elke mens zal zijn eigen keuzes moeten maken en daar zelf verantwoording voor moeten afleggen.

In Gods Woord kunnen de mensen een leidraad voor hun leven vinden en een idee vormen van wat er hun te wachten zal staan. Op Gods Woord zal men eigen keuzes kunnen maken.

Men zal moeten kunnen zien wat het Babylon is, of de Moderne Wereld. Het daar uit weg gaan is ongelijk aan het daaruit weggenomen worden.

De gelovigen die Gods Wil ter harte willen nemen zullen moeten vertrouwen op het behouden blijven. God heeft voor de gelovigen redding voorzien. De gelovige zal het daarom nog niet gemakkelijk krijgen, maar hij zal in ieder geval behouden blijven.

“Nog was tot Jeremia het woord des HEREN gekomen, terwijl hij in de gevangenhof opgesloten was: Ga heen en zeg tot Ebed-melek, de Ethiopier: Zo zegt de HERE der heerscharen, de God van Israel: Zie, Ik doe mijn woorden over deze stad in vervulling gaan ten kwade en niet ten goede, en zij zullen voor uw ogen geschieden te dien dage. Maar Ik zal u te dien dage redden, luidt het woord des HEREN, en gij zult niet overgegeven worden in de macht der mannen, voor wie gij met schrik bevangen zijt; want Ik zal u voorzeker doen ontkomen en gij zult door het zwaard niet vallen, maar uw leven zal u ten buit zijn, omdat gij op Mij vertrouwd hebt, luidt het woord des HEREN.” (Jeremia 39:15-18 NBG51)
“en zij zeiden tot de profeet Jeremia: Laat toch onze smeking bij u gehoor vinden en bid voor ons tot de HERE, uw God, voor dit gehele overblijfsel, want wij zijn als weinigen uit velen overgebleven, gelijk uw ogen ons aanschouwen; {} dat de HERE, uw God, ons te kennen geve, welke weg wij moeten gaan en wat wij moeten doen. {} En de profeet Jeremia zeide tot hen: Ik geef u gehoor; zie, ik zal tot de HERE, uw God, bidden gelijk gij gesproken hebt, en dan zal ik alle woord dat de HERE u antwoorden zal, u mededelen, ik zal u geen enkel woord verzwijgen. Toen zeiden zij tot Jeremia: De HERE zij ons een waarachtig en geloofwaardig getuige, dat wij overeenkomstig alle woord waarmede de HERE, uw God, u tot ons zenden zal, doen zullen. {} {}” (Jeremia 42:2-5 NBG51)

Indien wij bepaalde Tekenen zullen kunnen waarnemen zullen wij daar passend op moeten reageren. Wij zullen het moeten weten dat er tekenen zijn. Maar wij zullen er ook mee moeten kunnen leven dat wij niet de juiste of exacte datum weten. Wanneer het zal gebeuren is eigenlijk niet onze zaak, volgens Mark Hale. Alleen God weet dat. Zelf zijn zoon wist dit niet.

“Zo moet ook gij, wanneer gij dit ziet geschieden, weten, dat het Koninkrijk Gods nabij is.” (Lukas 21:31 NBG51)
“Zij dan, die daar bijeengekomen waren, vroegen Hem en zeiden: Here, herstelt Gij in deze tijd het koningschap voor Israel? Hij zeide tot hen: Het is niet uw zaak de tijden of gelegenheden te weten, waarover de Vader de beschikking aan Zich gehouden heeft,” (Handelingen 1:6-7 NBG51)
“De hemel en de aarde zullen voorbijgaan, maar mijn woorden zullen niet voorbijgaan. Maar van die dag of van die ure weet niemand, ook de engelen in de hemel niet, ook de Zoon niet, alleen de Vader.” (Markus 13:31-32 NBG51)

Als Jezus het al niet wist waarom zouden wij denken het beter te weten?

Maar wij moeten Kijken naar de tekenen. In de studie van de zondag werd ook gesproken over de omslachtigheid van de beeldspraken in Daniël, en hoe hier een aparte studie aan moet gewijd worden. Maar wij moeten toch ook het grote beeld met de voeten van Nebukadnezar naar voor halen, waar wij een duidelijk beeld zien van Europa, een sterk maar toch ook broos rijk, met een economisch blok, electorale bewegingen en overwegingen. Zwakke en sterke landen tot één verbonden of tot elkaar veroordeeld.

Het is actueel dat alle volkeren nu optrekken tegen Israël, waarbij het handelen van Israël door velen sterk wordt veroordeeld. Vaak willen Christenen een tegengeluid laten horen, maar Mark Hale vraagt zich daarbij af of die Christenen hierdoor niet ingaan tegen Gods Plan. Hoewel goed bedoeld, vertragen zij daarmee de vervulling van de profetie.

De tekenen zijn gegeven om te herkennen waardoor gelovigen ook zullen weten wanneer het zo ver is. De verwachting is dat het echt spannend wordt en dat wij dan omhoog zullen moeten kijken want dat de verlossing dan nabij zal zijn.

“Thans reeds zeg Ik het u, eer het geschiedt, opdat gij, wanneer het geschiedt, gelooft, dat Ik het ben.” (Johannes 13:19 NBG51)

We can look back on an interesting study weekend.

On Saturday Brother Rudolf Rijkeboer in the first study wondered if it was really so that we could be facing the end times. He brought some hypothetical posings and compared the different theorem. He also questioned how we could know if the return of Christ was in front of us and how the beginning of or Jesus getting at the door would not have to mean the end is here.

““And you shall begin to hear of fightings and reports of fightings. See that you are not troubled, for these have to take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation shall rise against nation, and reign against reign. And there shall be scarcities of food, and deadly diseases, and earthquakes in places. “And all these are the beginning of birth pains. ” (Matthew 24:6-8 The Scriptures 1998+)
““And learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that the summer is near. “So you also, when you see all these, know that He is near, at the doors. ” (Matthew 24:32-33 The Scriptures 1998+)

“See, a day shall come for יהוה, and your spoil shall be divided in your midst. And I shall gather all the gentiles to battle against Yerushalayim1. And the city shall be taken, the houses plundered, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into exile, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Footnote: 1Joel 3:2, Zeph. 3:8, Rev. 16:14. And יהוה shall go forth, and He shall fight against those gentiles, as He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives, which faces Yerushalayimon the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, a very great valley, and half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. ” (Zechariah 14:1-4 The Scriptures 1998+)

Today we can see that Israel is getting more and more isolated. More people are showing their resistance against Jerusalem and are acting against Israelites.

In the third study of the Saturday brother Rudolf placed all the fights of Israel in the picture. On Sunday, in Belgium we went on looking at Antiochius IV Epiphanes, how he considered the Jews a strange element in his Empire. On Sunday Steve Robinson and Marcus Ampe talked about those days of Epiphanes and the dates given by Daniel.

We saw that also in his and other times the matter of ‘end-times’ was more than ones on the tongue of people. Also when people got to see certain happenings or signs, they wondered: “how long will these wonders last?” In Daniels time a man swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times and a half, and that it will be when the the power of the holy people is no longer being shattered that all these things will end. and several could hear this, but couldn’t understand what it meant. Also Daniel wondered what it meant and asked God, what the outcome of all this would be ?

But at that time these words were to remain secret and sealed until the time of the end. And even at the time of the send Messiah that prophet, being called the son of god, did not know when the end times would be coming. Though Jesus also warned people to be prepared and to be always ready, because as it was declared to Daniel, many will purify, cleanse and refine themselves; but the wicked will keep on acting wickedly, and none of the wicked will understand. But those with discernment will understand. from the time the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days from Daniels time we were told that something serious was going to happen. How blessed will be anyone who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days. But you, go your way until the end comes. Then you will rest and rise for your reward, at the end of days.

When Daniel was in his late 80’s or over 90 he understood that Jeremiah’s 70 years had come to an end. The time for the return of the Jews had come and he pleaded with Jehovah God to forgive Israel for their sins and to look with favour on the sanctuary now desolate. God’s response was to tell Daniel of the seventy sevens the 490 years when atonement for transgression will be made by the Messiah. The sin offering will end and righteousness will come to pass. Daniel was being shown that Messiah (The Christ or Anointed One) would take away iniquity. Daniel became filled with visions and time periods of the latter days but is told “As for you Daniel go your way till the end. You will rest and then at the end of the days will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.” (Daniel 12:13)

“Now at that time Miḵa’ĕl shall stand up, the great head who is standing over the sons of your people. And there shall be a time of distress, such as never was since there was a nation, until that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book, and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth wake up, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches, everlasting abhorrence. “And those who have insight shall shine like the brightness of the expanse, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever. “But you, Dani’ĕl, hide the words, and seal the book until the time of the end. Many shall diligently search and knowledge shall increase.” Then I, Dani’ĕl, looked and saw two others standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank. And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long until the end of these wonders?” And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, and he held up his right hand and his left hand to the heavens, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it would be for a time, times, and half a time. And when they have ended scattering the power of the set-apart people, then all these shall be completed. And I heard, but I did not understand, so I said, “My master, what is the latter end of these matters?” And he said, “Go, Dani’ĕll, for the words are hidden and sealed till the time of the end. “Many shall be cleansed and made white, and refined. But the wrong shall do wrong – and none of the wrong shall understand, but those who have insight shall understand. “And from the time that which is continual is taken away, and the abomination that lays waste is set up, is one thousand two hundred and ninety days. “Blessed is he who is waiting earnestly, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. “But you, go your way till the end. And rest, and arise to your lot at the end of the days.”

Jesus who knew his Father is greater than him, was content by not knowing the day the end would come. “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only. {Footnote:Mk. 13:32}. ” (Matthew 24:36 The Scriptures 1998+)
““Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Master is coming. “And know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. “Because of this, be ready too, for the Son of Ad?am is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him. ” (Matthew 24:42-44 The Scriptures 1998+)

Mark Hale looked at the many years that passed, at the days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah and the descendants of Abraham, Mesopotamia and Egypt and how we saw in history the political story nicely fitting in Gods Plan. While brother Mark Hale asked us if we should be full of fright or be comforted, brother Rijkeboer showed us how we could learn from the past.

Mark Hale in the 4th study showed us what we have to do and how we could look at the signs we should see in this world. But also how we do have to be aware how history has proven that everything has to go according the Plan of God and people should be careful not to work against this Plan, delaying in such instance the return of Christ.

We should learn from what is written in the Scriptures and what has happened in the history of times.

“For whatever was written before was written for our instruction,1 that through endurance and encouragement of the Scriptures we might have the expectation. Footnote: 11 Cor. 10:11, 2 Tim. 3:16-17. ” (Romans 15:4 The Scriptures 1998+)

When we do all the signs around us we can clearly notice we are really coming to the predicted time of the return of Christ. But having to face the change in times, with people acting as it was prophesied we should understand that during the last days, scoffers will come, following their own desires and asking, “where is this promised ‘coming’ of his? for our fathers have died, and everything goes on just as it has since the beginning of creation.” We do know people will laugh with us and lots of them would not believe us. Others also do everything to bring us in discredit.
Everyday we should have the Word of God accompanying us and bringing us assurance. We may not overlook the fact that it was by God’s word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed. It is by that same Word that the present heavens and earth, having been preserved, are being kept for fire until the day of judgement, when ungodly people will be destroyed. Moreover, dear friends, do not ignore this: with the Lord Elohim the One who has everything in His hands, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day {Psalms 90:4}. For us it may seem to be a very long time, sometimes even too long. But we may be happy that Jehovah is not slow in keeping His promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, He is patient with us; for it is not His purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but that everyone should turn from his sins.

“knowing this first: that mockers shall come in the last days with mocking, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all continues as from the beginning of creation.” For they choose to have this hidden from them: that the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by the Word of Elohim,1Footnote: 1Heb. 11:3. through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. And the present heavens and the earth are treasured up by the same Word, being kept for fire, to a day of judgment and destruction of wicked men. If you are unable to attend the prophecy day in person for whatever reason, you are very welcome to join us online. You will be able to listen to the talks via audio link and to see the powerpoint slides via the internet. During the breaks, you are all very welcome to chat to each other and discuss the talks if you wish.

If there are a few of you in one location who would like to listen, why not get together? You could listen from your own meeting room with other brothers and sisters (as I am doing) or from the comfort of your lounge. In this case, I recommend using two computers – one so that you can see the audio screen (which we post information updates to) and a second to display the powerpoint slides which you would sit around and watch – or plug it into your big screen TV for added viewing pleasure!

Salus: Prophecies associated with the Mayan Calendar are extra-biblical, and the Rapture timing predictions of Harold Camping are unbiblical. There are over 2,300 references to Israel in the Bible, but I have yet to find even one concerning the Mayans. Therefore, prophecies concerning Israel attract my attention; whereas, Mayan predictions I consider biblically unfounded.

When the Arab Spring began months ago, and our talking heads on the networks assured us that the Egyptian people were fighting for democracy, I went on the record and declared that there would be no democracy, instead we would see Sharia or Islamic law, rule the day. Jesaja profeet en boodschapper van God

Jesaja, Isaia(h), (Hebreeuws Yesha’yahu, „God is redding“) (8ste eeuw BC, Jeruzalem, oud Israël), het grootste en waarschijnlijk het meest universeel geliefde van de profetische boeken van het Oude Testament. Het Bijbelse Boek van Jesaja wordt genoemd naar hem maar slechts enkele van de eerste 39 hoofdstukken worden toegeschreven aan hem.

Jesaja was een significante medewerker tot Joodse en Christelijke tradities en wordt herhaaldelijk vermeld in 2 Koningen en drie keer in 2 Kronieken. Zijn naam verschijnt zestien keer in het boek dat zijn naam draagt.[1]

Het is in zijn theologie dat Jesaja meest op Israëlitische traditie leunt en een kennis vertoont met de gedachten van Amos. Jesaja deelde met hem en met de mensen de al lang bestaande traditie dat een speciale band Israël en haar God verenigde. Sinds patriarchale tijden was er een overeenkomst, een plechtige „Overeenkomst“tussen hen geweest: het “Verbond” waarbij Israël de mensen van God moest zijn en Hij hun God.

Volgens deze beschrijving „zag“ Jesaja God en werd hij overweldigd door zijn contact met de goddelijke glorie en heiligheid. Hij werd verschrikkelijk bewust van de behoefte van God aan een boodschapper voor de inwoners van Israël, en, ondanks zijn eigen betekenis van ontoereikendheid, bood hij zich voor de dienst van God aan: „ Hier ben ik! Stuur me.“ Hij werd zo opgedragen om stem aan het goddelijke woord te geven.

Jesaja kende de God van Israël, Jehovah de Almachtige, als een juiste en consequent ordelijke God die van Zijn verwezenlijking (de Schepping) hield. Voor God waren de personen van belang. De God over alle goden en schepsels der aarde was, in feite meer bezorgd over mensen dan over hoe Zijn onderwerpen voor Hem hun rituelen uitvoerden. Voor Jesaja was het duidelijk dat God geschiedenis gestalte geeft, traditioneel ingaand op de menselijke scène om Zijn mensen van nationaal risico te redden. Maar volgens het in verlegenheid brengende vermoeden van Jesaja, kon de God zo behoorlijk vrij tussenbeide komen om Zijn eigen afwijkende natie te kastijden, en kon Hij een menselijke agent (b.v., een veroverende vijand) daarvoor tewerkstellen. Om Zijn doel te bereiken kon God verscheidene mogelijkheden aanwenden.

Jesaja spreekt van een teken van God, het komende Twijgje van Jesse, en een goddelijk kind dat een prachtige koning uit de geslachtslijn van David zou worden,zonder de tijd hiervoor te geven. [2] Deze aan de wereld gegeven zoon Immanuel [3] zou die langverwachte redder,de Messias en de gelovige Getrouwe Beleidvolle Slaaf[4] of bediende van de Enige Ware God zijn.

De bediende zal uit de stam van Jacob opreizen en zal deze herenigen. Hij zal de overlevenden van Israël terug brengen en herstellen en zal een licht voor de naties zijn en Gods bevrijding brengen over heel de aarde. [5] Magnifiek mengen de hoopvolle passages in dit boek van de Bijbel constant met de atmosfeer van het heersen noodlot. Later in het Nieuwe Testament vinden wij Jezus die de synagoge in Nazareth binnen gaat om een rol van Jesaja te lezen. Toen Jezus las: De „geest van de Heer Jehovah is op me; omdat Jehovah mij gezalfd heeft om goede tijdingen te prediken tot de zwakkeren; hij heeft mij gestuurd om de ontroostbaren samen te binden, vrijheid aan de gevangenen aan te bieden, en het openen van de gevangenis af te kondigen voor hen die verbonden zijn; “ (Jesaja 61:1)[6] Ook zei hij „Vandaag is deze Schriftplaats vervuld”[7] Ook voor ons vandaag kunnen wij ons gelukkig prijzen wanneer onze ogen de dingen zien welke de apostelen konden zien. Zoals voor de apostels de woorden van Jesaja waar zijn, zo ook voor ons. Wij moeten ons oor tot die Geschriften geven en door de studie van de Bijbel zullen wij kennis krijgen; en ziend, zullen wij zien. [8] En Jezus vertelde de mensen dat hij gezalfd was en uitging om het Goede Nieuws of Blije Tijdingen, de Goede Boodschap (het Evangelie/de Gospel) te verkondigen. De reddingsgastvrijheid van God zal worden uitgebreid en de stumpers of de zielenpoten van de aarde zullen geëvangeliseerd worden en zij zullen leren dat God aan hun kant is.[9]

Jesaja waarschuwt Ahaz om zijn manieren aan te passen, omdat alvorens de Messias zou komen, de Assyriërs zouden binnenvallen en tragedie zouden brengen die groter is dan de scheiding van Ephraim van Juda, maar zij zouden ook hun ondergang moeten onder ogen zien en de lasten van de mensen van God zouden worden weggehaald, die hij nooit in de steek zal laten of verlaten.[10] Maar er was een alternatief voor de tragedie; Gods Volk hoefde niet te worden vernietigd. De overleving van de mensen hing opnieuw af van hun goedkeuring van de oude morele eisen. Door terug te keren zouden zij kunnen worden gered.

Israël is het voorwerp van de zorg van God en van vergevende gunst, Gods Gratie (44: 1, 2, 2.1, 22). God is de agent; de bediende is de ontvanger. De God roept Cyrus omwille van Israël (45: 4), maar de situatie wordt later duisterder (50: 4-10). De vernedering van Christus is merkbaar (50: 6), maar het Nieuwe Testament citeert de verzen 4-10 niet.[11] De context impliceert niet dat lijden plaatsvervangend is; het zegt dat God Zijn bediende zal helpen.[12]

Jesaja vertelt over een bediende die goed zal doen in zijn ondernemingen en zal worden geëerd, en opgeheven, en zeer hoog zal geplaatst worden. Hij deelt ook mee dat de volkeren door deze gewoon ogende mens zullen worden verrast. Zo zullen de naties ere aan hem geven; de koningen zullen wegens hem stil worden: want wat niet aan hen duidelijk was gemaakt zullen zij zien; en zij zullen hun meningen geven aan wat niet aan hun oren was gekomen omdat zij aanschouwen wat nog nooit was gehoord. Mensen maakten hem tot spot en wenden zich van hem af. Het was ons leed dat hij droeg, ons lijden drukte hem neer.

De mensen waren wreed naar hem toe, maar hij bleef kalm, zacht en stil. Hij werd in een hoek gedreven en mishandeld, maar zei geen woord. Hij werd als een lam naar de slachtbank geleid; zoals een schaap onder het scheren geen geluid maakt, stond ook hij zwijgend voor degenen die hem veroordeelden. Vanuit de angst en de benauwdheid werd hij bevrijd. Maar het was onze pijn die hij tot zich heeft genomen, en onze ziekten werden overgebracht op hem. Terwijl hij voor ons als een zieke scheen, op wie de straf van God was gekomen. Maar het was voor onze zonden dat hij verwond werd, en voor onze verkeerde handelingen, al het kwade door ons aangericht, dat hij werd verpletterd. Hij nam de straf op zich waardoor wij vrede hebben, en door zijn wonden worden wij goed gemaakt. Hij werd doorstoken en verbrijzeld terwille van onze zonden. hij werd zwaar gestraft zodat wij vrede konden hebben; hij werd geslagen en daardoor werden wij genezen!

Jesaja profeteerde dat deze bepaalde onschuldige persoon de dood zou vinden onder zondaars en dat hij begraven zou worden in het graf van een rijke in een laatste rustplaats met boosdoeners, hoewel hij niets verkeerd had gedaan, en geen misleiding in zijn mond zou te vinden zijn. Deze man, de groene scheut die dat zoenoffer bracht zal hoog worden verheven.
Wij keerden hem de rug toe en keken de andere kant op als hij langs kwam. hij werd veracht en dat deed ons niets. Doch zal hij talloze nakomelingen krijgen; vele erfgenamen. Jesaja brengt ons het heugelijke nieuws dat dit slachtoffer dat ons met God zal verzoenen opnieuw zal leven. Bij hem zal Gods voornemen in goede handen zijn. Als hij ziet wat allemaal is bereikt door zijn zware lijden, zal hij voldoening smaken. door wat hij heeft ondervonden, zal Gods rechtvaardige dienaar vele mensen rechtvaardig maken in de ogen van de Almachtige Vader, want hij zal al hun zonden dragen.
Wij kunnen weten dat de Almachtige God Jehovah tevreden was en zijn oprechtheid vóór mensen duidelijk maakte. Voor het op zich nemen van de zonden van alle mensen zal Jezus een erfenis met de groten hebben, en hij zal een deel in de goederen van de oorlog met de sterken hebben, omdat hij zijn leven opgaf, en onder de boosdoeners werd gerekend; het overnemen van zelf de zonden van de mensen, en het maken van gebed voor verkeerddoenden.[13]

Hier vinden wij expliciete verwijzing naar Christus (Mattheüs 8:17; Lukas 22:37; Johannes 12:38; Handelingen der apostelen 8:32, 37, Romeinen 10:16; 15:21; Hebreeërs 9:28; 1 Petrus 2:22, 24.25). Het zondeoffer van Jezus `is die prachtige gift die wij kunnen gebruiken om onze weg naar oprechtheid en redding te volgen.

Jesaja brengt de beloften van de lijdende bediende, de Zoon van David, en het Lam van God samen.

De profeet Jesaja slaagt in zijn doel een vreugdebode te zijn. Hij weet het Goede Nieuws aan te kondigen dat God door de vernieuwde en toegenomen glorie van zijn mensen verheerlijking zal brengen over deze wereld. Het boek van Jesaja is een visioen van hoop voor zondaren door de komende Messias, die voor de “vrijgekochte” mensen van God een nieuwe wereld belooft waar zonde en leed voorgoed zal vergeten worden (35:10; 51:11).

Isaiah prophet and messenger of God

Isaiah, (Hebrew Yesha’yahu, “God is salvation”) (8th century BC, Jerusalem, ancient Israel), the largest and probably the most universally cherished of the Old Testaments prophetical books. The biblical Book of Isaiah is named after him but only some of the first 39 chapters are attributed to him.

Isaiah was a significant contributor to Jewish and Christian traditions and is mentioned repeatedly in 2 Kings and three times in 2 Chronicles. His name appears sixteen times in the book that bears his name.[1]

It is in his theology that Isaiah leans most heavily on Israelite tradition and shows an acquaintance with the thoughts of Amos. Isaiah shared with him and with the people the long-standing tradition that a special bond united Israel and its God. Since patriarchal times there had been an agreement, a solemn “Covenant” between them: Israel was to be God’s people and He their God.

According to this account Isaiah “saw” God and was overwhelmed by his contact with the divine glory and holiness. He became agonizingly aware of God’s need for a messenger to the people of Israel, and, despite his own sense of inadequacy, he offered himself for God’s service: “Here am I! Send me.” He was thus commissioned to give voice to the divine word.

Isaiah knew Israel’s God as a just and consequent orderly God who loved His creation. To God persons mattered. God was, in fact, more concerned about people than about how His subjects performed for Him their rituals. For Isaiah it was clear that God shapes history, traditionally entering the human scene to rescue His people from national peril. But, according to Isaiah’s discomfiting surmise, God could intervene quite as properly to chastise his own aberrant nation, and he could employ a human agent (e.g., a conquering foe) to that end.

Isaiah speaks of a sign of God, the coming Rod of Jesse, and a divine child who would become a wonderful king of David‘s line without giving the time.[2] This son Immanuel[3] given to the world would be the long awaited saviour, the Messiah, and the faithful servant[4] of the Only One God. The servant will raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the preserved of Israel and be a light to the nations and God’s salvation to the ends of the earth.[5] Magnificently hopeful passages in this Bible book constantly mingle with the prevailing atmosphere of doom. Later in the New Testament we do find Jesus entering the synagogue in Nazareth reading a scroll of Isaiah. When Jesus read: “The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” (Isaiah 61:1 ASV) he also said “Today this scripture has been fulfilled”[6] To us today we can be happy when our eyes see the things the apostles could see:[7] As for the apostles the words of Isaiah have come true, so for us. We have to give our ear to those writings and by Bible study we will get knowledge; and seeing, we will see.[8] And Jesus told the people he was the anointed and went out to proclaim the Good News or Glad Tidings (the Gospel). God’s salvation hospitality shall be extended and the wretched of the earth shall be evangelized and learn that God is on their side. [9]

Isaiah warns Ahaz to mend his ways, because before the Messiah would come, the Assyrians would invade and bring tragedy greater than the division of Ephraim from Judah, but they also would have to face their downfall and the burdens would be taken away from God’s people, whom He never shall abandon or forsake.[10] But there was an alternative to tragedy; God’s people did not have to be destroyed. The people’s survival depended on their acceptance again of the ancient moral demands. By returning they might be saved.

Israel is the object of God’s care and forgiving grace (44:1, 2, 2.1, 22). God is the agent; the servant is the recipient. God calls Cyrus for the sake of Israel (45: 4), but the situation later becomes more obscure (50: 4-10)[11]. Christ‘s humiliation is noticeable (50: 6), but the New Testament does not quote verses 4-10. The context does not imply that the suffering is vicarious; it says that God will help His servant. [12]

Isaiah tells about a servant who will do well in his undertakings and will be honoured, and lifted up, and be very high. He notifies also that people shall be surprised at this ordinary looking man. So will nations give him honour; kings will keep quiet because of him: for what had not been made clear to them they will see; and they will give their minds to what had not come to their ears. Men made sport of him, turning away from him; he was a man of sorrows, marked by disease; and like one from whom men’s faces are turned away, he was looked down on, and we put no value on him. Men were cruel to him, but he was gentle and quiet; as a lamb taken to its death, and as a sheep before those who take her wool makes no sound, so he said not a word. But it was our pain he took, and our diseases were put on him: while to us he seemed as one diseased, on whom God’s punishment had come. But it was for our sins he was wounded, and for our evil doings he was crushed: he took the punishment by which we have peace, and by his wounds we are made well.

Isaiah prophesises that this given innocent person would have put his body into the earth with sinners, and that his last resting-place was with the evil-doers, though he had done no wrong, and no deceit was in his mouth. But we may know that Jehovah God was pleased, made clear his righteousness before men. For taking the sins of all people on him he will have a heritage with the great, and he will have a part in the goods of war with the strong, because he gave up his life, and was numbered with the evil-doers; taking on himself the sins of the people, and making prayer for the wrongdoers.
We can know that the Almighty God Jehovah was satisfied and made His sincerity for men clear. For to take the sins of all men on himself Jesus will receive an inheritance with the big ones, and he will have a part in the goods of the war with the strong, because he wanted to give his life, and figured under the wrongdoers; taking over of the sins of the men, and making a prayer for wrongdoers. [13]
Here we find explicit reference to Christ (Matthew 8:17; Luke 22:37; John 12:38; Acts 8:32, 37; Romans 10:16; 15:21; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 2:22, 24,25). Jesus ‘sinoffering is that marvellous gift we can use to follow our path to righteousness and salvation.

Isaiah brings together the promises of the suffering servant, the Son of David, and the Lamb of God.

The prophet Isaiah succeeds in his target to be a joy bid. He knows to announce the Good News that God through the renewed and increased glory of its men will bring apotheosis over this world. The book of Isaiah became a vision of hope for sinners through the coming Messiah, that promises for the “redeemed” men of God a new world were sin and sorrow for good will be forgotten (35:10; 51:11).

Old Testament prophecy can make for a pretty heavy and challenging read at times according Kevin Miller.
Prophecy was a unique calling in the Old Testament days. God singled out certain people that He gave specific words to. These people were then to speak those words to the others and obey them with unflinching loyalty. The challenge was that much of what they had to talk about was God’s wrath…which didn’t make them too popular. In fact, many people identify the man mentioned at the end of Hebrews 11 who got sawn in two, as the prophet Isaiah.

Another interesting thing about Isaiah is that it is considered to be somewhat of a mini-Bible because of the many similarities between the book and the Book. Here’s a run-down of some of the similarities between the 2…

The Bible: one of the first New Testament characters is John the Baptist, introducing the way of Christ by quoting Isaiah 40:3.

Isaiah 66 is all about the end of the world. In fact, he even speaks of the new heaven and new earth, which sounds very familiar if you’ve read Revelation (which we’ll read in just a few weeks).
This brings us to the Importance of the Old Testament in New Testament Study. Whenever we come to a study of the New Testament the first thing to keep in mind is that the writers were steeped in the Old Testament and looked to it as the divine revelation of God’s truth. It was their source of knowledge about God, and the place from which they obtained their ideas.
Having acted in creation the Spirit is continually mentioned in the carrying forward successfully of God’s purposes.

So why again was the Spirit of the Lord on him? Not because he was brave; not because he was strong enough; not because he (Isaiah, the prophet who is speaking) was such a good boy. But because he was appointed by God to “bind the brokenhearted” and to ”free the captives” (etc).
As stated into many Books of the Bible and from the answers in the Book of Job we get to know that it shall be impossible to comprehend fully the One and Only One God.
The Spirit of the Lord was Isaiah, the prophet who is speaking because he was appointed by God to “bind the brokenhearted” and to ”free the captives” (etc).
According Dawn Marie in Importance of the Old Testament in New Testament Study: The Holy Spirit the continual failure of God’s people showed that only by an act of divine power could God’s purposes be fulfilled, and all the prophets hold out the vision of such action. However, the connection with the Spirit is mainly brought out by Isaiah, Ezekiel and Joel.
We can see from these examples that the Spirit is evidenced by His activity through selected people, and one of the proofs of His presence is final success. The idea is present of the invisible, yet powerful, personal activity of God through chosen men to carry forward His purposes.
Having acted in creation the Spirit is continually mentioned in the carrying forward successfully of God’s purposes.

Isaiah bringer of good tidings of the Gospel

How welcome is the bringer of happiness which comes running over the mountains, the one which brings peace announcements and good news [`gospel’], which announces rescue and says against Sion: `Your God is king!

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”” (Isaiah 52:7 NIV)

Why Jesaja / Isaiah?

In Markus Jesus starts his public preaching with: “The time has been fulfilled and the Kingdom of God has come nearby. Believe the Gospel and convert “(Markus 1: 15).[1] Have you here noticed that nobody asked him then `where do you have it about?’ They knew therefore obviously complete well where he aimed on.

Jesus contemporaries had indeed a very concrete expectation of that ‘evangelicon’ or gospel. They expected the reconstruction of the kingdom, which had started under David and Salomon, but to which an end had come by the exile in Babel. After the return from that was that kingdom not yet repaired. From the book Daniel they knew that it would take a long time. But the called time there, had expired and therefore they expected in their time the acting `Messiah, the promised king from the line of David, which would repair everything. The term `gospel ‘(Greek: euangelion, the good news) was also known to them. That term comes, as it happens, from the Septuaginta, the Greek translation of the Old Testament, which most of Jews used then.

The associated verb euangelizomai (evangelization or bringing good news) is found six times in the prophecy of Isaiah. And the Jews of the first century accepted that it concerned that convalescence of royalty. This had, however, to mean that the coming Messiah would dissipate the Romans from the country, and he would make their state independent. But the one who read Isaiah well, sees that it concerns in reality something very differently, as it happens, concerning the release from the power of sin and dead. And that is still much larger news than the state independence where they watched for. But during Jesus preaching few have understood this, but after his resurrection that was the message with which the apostles withdrew the world.

Christians know of course complete well that the gospel has to do with life and death. But how many do have also a clear insight where Isaiah preaching is based on? Because Isaiah is no easy book. But that message is really also for us very important, for a good term of what now exactly implies the gospel, and of what now exactly is the role of the Messiah (Greek: Christos) who’s the pin of it. Our coming study day we want to show you for this reason that message of Isaiah.

What will we do

Of course it is not possible in just a set of four studies to treat the whole book Isaiah. What we want to do, is showing you briefly what now really is the message of the prophet Isaiah, and which themes play a role in this topic. And especially which links there are all with the message of the Evangelicons, the Gospel and the rest of the New Testament. At the end of the study day every participant shall get the new book from our serial the “Books of the Bible”, within it the complete tale.

In the first study we want to outline the contexts: the political situation of the world in Isaiah’s days, against which we must read and understand the tale; but also the religious decline under the people. Not only who had become unfaithful under the treaty, but likewise under the `faithful part’, in which they were dragged more than they were aware of it. That people had a need for urgent salvation, but realised this not. Thus that had to made clear to them firstly. And that message is in the Christian world of our time still current the same.

The second study shows you how God presents himself in Isaiah as a god who comes up for whom serves Him. He summons as it were the gods of other people to show or to express what they also can do, and moreover to proclaim it in advance. However that is not possible for them, because they are but fabrications of their admirers. There with compared He puts His notice; not only that He will deliver and release His people, but also how He will do that. Because He controls the history. What happens to His people, His hand brought it over them. For this reason His people do not have to look for its well-being in its own political or military solutions, but trusting Him.

Then we show you why there was for this saving a need of a special `discharger’ or ‘releaser’. The people expected a coming `anointed’ or an ‘ointment ‘ (Hebrew: Messiah, Greek: Christos) from the house of David. But even the faithful Hizkia, who according to the writer of the book kings did not have his equal under the kings of Juda, was not well enough for this task. On the critical moment he also failed. God gave, however, a spectacular release from the power of the Assyrians, which model stands for the real release. But just then Hizkia realised and recognised that also he had firstly looked for a human solution instead of directly to trust an already God given promise.

Finally we reach then the nature of Isaiah’s message: God plan for the release from the dungeons of the largest enemy of people: death; and not from the seizure of a political world power. That victory on death would not be gained by powerful man-at-arms, but by a humble, obedient servant: God’s slave. That is the largest news on which people could put their hope. And it does not remain even there at: this liberation from the dungeon of death is there not only for the members of the old treaty people, but is also available for all nations – the goyim, the heathen – who want to convert themselves to the God of Israel.

That is perhaps still the greatest news, certainly for us! The bringer of that news is called the `vreugdebode’ = ‘delightmessenger’, literally: ‘he that brings good tidings`. The term that Isaiah uses for that good news `, is in the Hebrew bashar and in the Greek euangelion (evangelion). That term is, in this meaning, characteristic for Isaiah; and there is hardly a complete knowledge of the term `gospel ‘possible without knowledge of this context. Finally we want for this reason to illustrate that by means of a range links with the New Testament.

The term gospel is found ninety-nine times in the NASB and ninety-two times in the NET Bible. In the Greek New Testament, gospel is the translation of the Greek noun euangelion (occurring 76 times) “good news,” and the verb euangelizo (occurring 54 times), meaning “to bring or announce good news.” Both words are derived from the noun angelos, “messenger.” In classical Greek, an euangelos was one who brought a message of victory or other political or personal news that caused joy. In addition, euangelizomai (the middle voice form of the verb) meant “to speak as a messenger of gladness, to proclaim good news.” Further, the noun euangelion became a technical term for the message of victory, though it was also used for a political or private message that brought joy.
