Speaking and bringing unto being

The “I Am who I am” or the “I am that I am”, at the beginning of the universe let His voice come over everything, so that it came into being.

In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth. And the earth came to be {1} formless and empty, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim was moving on the face of the waters. {Footnote: 1Or the earth became}. And Elohim said, “Let light come to be,” and light came to be. (Genesis 1:1-3 The Scriptures 1998+)

The Creator of everything said each time that it had to come to be and it became. Over which His breath came He also gave a name. Elohim called the light ‘day’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ He called the expanse ‘heavens.’ Elohim called the dry land ‘earth,’ and the collection of the waters He called ‘seas.’ He soon came to give with His voice blessing over the all earth.

11 And Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the plant that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth.” And it came to be so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the plant that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:11-12 The Scriptures 1998+)

20 And Elohim said, “Let the waters teem with shoals of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And Elohim created great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters teemed, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. 22 And Elohim saw that it was good. And Elohim blessed them, saying, “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the fifth day. (Genesis 1:20-23 The Scriptures 1998+)

A voice calling in the Garden

The things which came into existence by the Voice of God pleased Him. He always looked at what came into being and saw that it was good. So God decided to make human beings; which would be like Him and resemble Him, what does not mean they would become like Him. Adam, Eve, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Jesus, were all made in the image of that One and Only One God. They received power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small. Male and female were created and blessed. To those first human beings God said to have many children, so that their descendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. It was the Creator God who put those human creatures in charge of the earth, the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals. From the beginning the Elohim God also provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for them to eat.

25 And Elohim made the beast of the earth according to its kind, livestock according to its kind, and all that creep on the earth according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good. 26 And Elohim said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the livestock, and over all the earth and over all the creeping creatures that creep on the earth.” 27 And Elohim created the man in His image, in the image of Elohim He created him – male and female He created them. 28 And Elohim blessed them, and Elohim said to them, “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over all creatures moving on the earth.” 29 And Elohim said, “See, I have given you every plant that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed, to you it is for food. Adam and Eve heard the Voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. In the beginning it looked like the Voice of God was soft and caring, creating all goodness. But after the wrong going by Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God in the middle of the trees of the garden (Genesis 3:8), more than once God had to let His Voice be like thunder.

“יהוה {Jehovah} thundered from the heavens, And the Most High sent forth His voice. (2 Samuel 22:14 The Scriptures 1998+)

2 Listen, listen to the trembling of His voice, and the sound that comes from His mouth. 3 He lets it loose under all the heavens, and His lightning to the ends of the earth. 4 After it a voice roars. He thunders with the voice of His excellency, and He does not hold them back when His voice is heard. 5 Ěl thunders wondrously with His voice; doing great deeds, which we do not understand. 6 For He says to the snow, ‘Be on the earth,’ also to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. 7 He seals up the hand of every man, for all men to know His work. (Job 37:2-7 The Scriptures 1998+)

Prophets hearing the Voice

Many prophets heard the voice of God, some, like Ezekiel as the sound of wings, like the sound of roaring water and wrote down what the voice of the Almighty dictated to them. God’s glory rose above the cherubs and filled God’s House (the temple) with the brilliance of the Creator’s glory. The sound of the wings of the cherubim, reminiscent of the voice of the Sovereign God when he speaks, could be heard as far as the outer court of the temple.

4 And the esteem of יהוה {Jehovah} went up from the keruḇ, over the threshold of the House. And the House was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the esteem of יהוה {Jehovah}. 5 And the sound of the wings of the keruḇim was heard in the outer court, like the voice of Ěl Shaddai when He speaks. (Ezekiel 10:4-5 The Scriptures 1998+)

And see, the esteem of the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl came from the way of the east. And His voice was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone from His esteem. And His voice was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone from His esteem. (Ezekiel 43:2 The Scriptures 1998+)

It was this Voice of God that could lift up the prophets and give them inspiration to write down that what God wanted them His people to know. By way of His Voice God gave His commandments and asked people to do certain things for Him.

And the Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner courtyard. And see, the esteem of יהוה filled the House. (Ezekiel 43:5 The Scriptures 1998+)

44. Before

““And now, esteem Me with Yourself, Father, with the esteem which I had with You before the world was.” (John 17:5 The Scriptures 1998+)

In John 17:5 Jesus spoke of the glory which he “had” before the foundation of the world. But in the same context (vv. 22 and 24) that same glory has already “been given” (past tense) to disciples not yet born at the time when Jesus spoke.

“And the esteem which You gave Me I have given them, so that they might be one as We are one, “ (John 17:22 The Scriptures 1998+)

““Father, I desire that those whom You have given Me, might be with Me where I am, so that they see My esteem which You have given Me, because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24 The Scriptures 1998+)

It is clear then that the glory which both Jesus and the disciples “had” is a glory in promise and prospect. Jesus thus prays to have conferred on him at his ascension the glory which God had undertaken to give him from the foundation of the world. John speaks in Jewish fashion of a pre-existing Purpose, not a pre-existing second Person. Our point was well expressed by a distinguished Lutheran New Testament professor, H.H. Wendt (The System of Christian Teaching, 1907):

“It is clear that John 8:58 [‘Before Abraham was I am’] and 17:5 do not speak of a real pre-existence of Christ. We must not treat these verses in isolation, but understand them in their context.

“The saying in John 8:58, ‘Before Abraham came to be, I am’ was prompted by the fact that Jesus’ opponents had countered his remark in v. 51 by saying that Jesus was not greater than Abraham or the prophets (v. 52). As the Messiah commissioned by God Jesus is conscious of being in fact superior to Abraham and the prophets. For this reason he replies (according to the intervening words, v. 54ff) that Abraham had ‘seen his day,’ i.e., the entrance of Jesus on his historical ministry, and ‘had rejoiced to see’ that day. And Jesus strengthens his argument by adding the statement, which sounded strange to the Jews, that he had even been ‘before Abraham’ (v. 58). This last saying must be understood in connection with v. 56. Jesus speaks in vv. 55, 56 and 58 as if his present ministry on earth stretches back to the time of Abraham and even before. His sayings were perceived by the Jews in this sense and rejected as nonsense. But Jesus obviously did not (in v. 56) mean that Abraham had actually experienced Jesus’ appearance on earth and seen it literally. Jesus was referring to Abraham’s spiritual vision of his appearance on earth, by which Abraham, at the birth of Isaac, had foreseen at the same time the promised Messiah, and had rejoiced at the future prospect of the greater one (the Messiah) who would be Israel’s descendant. Jesus’ reference to his existence before Abraham’s birth must be understood in the same sense. There is no sudden heavenly pre-existence of the Messiah here: the reference is again obviously to his earthly existence. And this earthly existence is precisely the existence of the Messiah. As such, it was not only present in Abraham’s mind, but even before his time, as the subject of God’s foreordination and foresight. The sort of pre-existence Jesus has in mind is ‘ideal’ [in the world of ideas and plans]. In accordance with this consciousness of being the Messiah preordained from the beginning, Jesus can indeed make the claim to be greater than Abraham and the prophets.

“In John 17:5 Jesus asks the Father to give him now the heavenly glory which he had with the Father before the world was. The conclusion that because Jesus possessed a pre-existent glory in heaven he must also have pre-existed personally in heaven is taken too hastily. This is proven by Matthew 6:20 (‘Lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven’), 25:34 (‘Come, you blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world’), Col. 1:5 (‘the hope which is laid up for you in heaven about which you heard in the word of Truth, the Gospel’), and 1 Peter 1:4 (‘an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, which does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you’). Thus a reward can also be thought of as preexistent in heaven. Such a reward is destined for human beings and already held in store, to be awarded to them at the end of their life. So it is with heavenly glory which Jesus requests. He is not asking for a return to an earlier heavenly condition. Rather he asks God to give him now, at the end of his work as Messiah on earth (v. 4), the heavenly reward which God had appointed from eternity for him, as Messiah. As the Messiah and Son he knows he has been loved and foreordained by the Father from eternity (v. 24). Both John 8:58 and 17:5 are concerned with God’s predetermination of the Messiah” (cp. Teaching of Jesus, pp. 453-460).

Note: Things which are held in store as divine plans for the future are said to be “with God.” Thus in Job 10:13 Job says to God, “These things you have concealed in your heart: I know that this is with You” (see KJV). “He performs what is appointed for me, and many such decrees are with Him” (Job 23:14). Thus the glory which Jesus had “with God” was the glory which God had planned for him as the decreed reward for his Messianic work now completed. The promise of glory “pre-existed,” not Jesus himself. Note that this same glory which Jesus asked for has already been given to you (see John 17:22, 24). It was given to you and Jesus whom God loved before the foundation of the world (v. 24; cp. Eph. 1:4). You may therefore say that you now “have” that glory although it is glory in promise and prospect, to be gained at the Second Coming. Jesus had that same glory in prospect before the foundation of the world (John 17:5). [39. 45. After

Paul can say that we now “have” a new body with God in heaven (2 Cor. 5:1) — i.e., we have the promise of it, not in actuality. That body will be ours at our resurrection at the return of Christ. We now “have” it in anticipation and promise only. (“We have a building of God…” 2 Cor. 5:1). We do not in fact have it yet. This is the very Jewish language of promises decreed by God. They are absolutely certain to be fulfilled.

“For we know that if the tent of our earthly house, is destroyed, we have a building from Elohim, a house not made with hands, everlasting in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1 The Scriptures 1998+)

We do not have our foundation in the dust, but we do come out from the dust and soil and shall return to the soil. As the first man was made from the dust of the earth. He came from the earth. The second man came from heaven because he was placed in the mother’s womb by the divine power of the One and Only God. In the man who wanted to die for all other men we have the treasure of the Good News.

“But Elohim gives it a body as He wishes, and to each seed a body of its own. All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another of fishes, and another of birds. And there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the esteem of the heavenly is truly one, and the esteem of the earthly is another, one esteem of the sun, and another esteem of the moon, and another esteem of the stars – for star differs from star in esteem. So also is the resurrection of the dead: it is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption; it is sown in disrespect, it is raised in esteem; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body; there is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it has been written, “The first man Ad’am became a living being,” the last Ad’am a life-giving Spirit. The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, earthy; the second Man is the Master from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.” (1 Corinthians 15:38-48 The Scriptures 1998+)

“For Elohim, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts for the enlightening of the knowledge of the esteem of Elohim in the face of יהושע Messiah. And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power might be of Elohim, and not of us – being hard pressed on every side,1 but not crushed; being perplexed, but not in despair; Footnote: 1See 1:8. being persecuted, but not forsaken; being thrown down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Master יהושע, that the life of יהושע might also be manifested in our body. It was once fashionable in religious circles to say that Jesus Christ would never return to the earth. There are still plenty of professing Christians who believe that. But there are now many others who have come to believe that the Second Coming is a very important event.
Christadelphians have always taught that the Return of Jesus Christ to the earth is vital to the fulfillment of the purpose of God. This booklet reviews Bible teaching about the Second Coming, both the events that will lead up to that miracle and the reason for the Lord’s Return.
Is the Trinity or pre-existence true? > How is Jesus Christ God?
Jesus, who came into existence as a man, is the firstborn of God’s new creation as Adam was the firstborn of the old creation. (1Corinthians 15:22: “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive…. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made (by resurrection from the dead) a quickening spirit.”; Romans 5:19 “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”)
Christ’s genealogy through Mary in Luke is taken right back to Adam. (Luke 3:38: “Which was (the son) of Enos, which was (the son) of Seth, which was (the son) of Adam, which was (the son) of God.”) If Christ was to be the offspring of Abraham he had to come into being after Abraham. Abraham knew there was a saviour promised in Genesis 3:15.

The same word is used in Acts 26:5 (knew); Romans 11:2 (foreknew);2Peter 3:17 (know these things before).

39. Adam and Eve, Mary and Jesus

As the ‘mannin’ Eve, who was created after the image of God, became the first mother of the 1st worldgeneration, Mary was chosen to be the mother of the 2nd Adam, who was going to be the 1st of the New Generation (The third in a row). [35. The 2nd one having started after the flood.] This new child, or the child of the new beginning (Genesis) had to come directly from God to be likewise the 1st Adam and because it would have been unfair to start off from a person who would only come from fragile humans who , because of the heridarity of defects, should have to many problems to choose not to sin. The new world had to be able to start without a bug, so giving humanity more chances to succeed the Creator took again a woman, who at first [36. Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3)] had showed a deceit, giving her again the chance to bring up good children.

The prophet promised by Isaiah and the long expected by others was Jesus with his royal Sonship that is established by his miraculous begetting. That of the Christians originates with their rebirth or regeneration.

40. Identity and nature of Christianity’s central figure

As the centre of a new ecumenism the simple truth about the identity and nature of Christianity’s central figure has the backing of those many scholars who know well that neither Luke nor Matthew show any sign of believing in a pre-human eternal Son of God of the post-biblical creeds. Raymond Brown’s magisterial treatment of the birth narratives in his Birth of the Messiah makes a major point of the fact that neither Matthew nor Luke believed in the Incarnation of a pre-human, prehistoric Son.

Commenting on Luke 1:35, “therefore,” Raymond Brown says, “of the nine times dio kai occurs in the New Testament, three are in Luke/Acts. It involves a certain causality and Lyonnet (in his L’Annonciation, 61.6) points out that this has embarrassed many orthodox theologians since in pre-existence Christology a conception by the holy spirit in Mary’s womb does not bring about the existence of God’s son. Luke is seemingly unaware of such a Christology; conception is causally related to divine Sonship for him…And so I cannot follow those theologians who try to avoid the causal connotation in the ‘therefore’ which begins this line, by arguing that for Luke the conception of the child does not bring the Son of God into being.” Raymond Brown insists that according to Luke, “We are dealing with the begetting of God’s Son in the womb of Mary through God’s creative spirit.” [37. The Birth of the Messiah, London: Geoffrey Chapman, 1977, pp. 291, 312.]

“Orthodoxy” derived from later Church Councils has to turn a blind eye to Gabriel’s definition of the Son of God. It contradicted Gabriel by denying that the conception of Jesus brought about his existence as Son of God.

This is a very serious issue. Is the Jesus of the creeds, the Jesus under whose umbrella churches gather, really the created Son authorized by Scripture in Luke 1:35 and Matthew 1:18, 20?

Again, the exhaustive work of Brown on the birth narratives brings us the important fact that the Jesus of the Gospels is quite unlike the “eternally begotten” Son of the later creeds:
“Matthew and Luke press [the question of Jesus’ identity] back to Jesus’ conception. In the commentary I shall stress that Matthew and Luke show no knowledge of pre-existence; seemingly for them the conception was the becoming (begetting) of God’s Son (p. 31).”

“The fact that Matthew can speak of Jesus as ‘begotten’ (passive of gennan) suggests that for him the conception through the agency of the holy spirit is the becoming of God’s Son. [In Matthew’s and Luke’s ‘conception Christology’] God’s creative action in the conception of Jesus begets Jesus as God’s Son…There is no suggestion of an Incarnation whereby a figure who was previously with God takes on flesh. For pre-existence Christology [Incarnation], the conception of Jesus is the beginning of an earthly career but not the begetting of God’s Son. [Later] the virginal conception was no longer seen as the begetting of God’s Son, but as the incarnation of God’s Son, and that became orthodox Christian doctrine. This thought process is probably already at work at the beginning of the second century” (pp. 140-142).

23. Coming down from heaven

When people say that Jesus came down from heaven they should know that all the good things come down from heaven.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning.¹ {Footnote: ¹See Mal. 3:6.} “(James 1:17 The Scriptures 1998+)

“This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but it is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.” (James 3:15 The Scriptures 1998+) + “But the wisdom from above is first clean, then peaceable, gentle, ready to obey, filled with compassion and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17 The Scriptures 1998+)

Also the food we eat, like our daily bread comes from heaven.

““This is the bread which comes down out of the heaven, so that anyone might eat of it, and not die. “I am the living bread which came down out of the heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever. Jesus his flesh is as the bread which came down from heaven. As in our previous serious about language we see that several people also are caught in the “mad about my flat” language fallacy. As we showed the difference in meaning or understanding in different parts in the world, in the UK and the USA this means totally different things. They assume that “coming down from heaven” means that you were alive in heaven before you came down literally. But “mad about my flat” means “excited about my new apartment,” when English read this in their British environment and with British language habits in mind. So what does “coming down from heaven” mean in biblical idiom, which is Hebrew (hardly surprising) in style?

We may never forget we do have to read the Bible from a Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek view. Matthew being Hebrew spoke in his tradition and meant with such a saying that one’s origin is with God the Father (also Luke said that too!). It does not mean that one is a prehuman personage. Pre-human of course implies, if you think about it, non-human. And the whole point of the Messiah, Son of God, is that he is and must be a man, “the man mediator” of the lucidly clear statement of Paul in 1 Timothy 2:5: “There is one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Messiah Jesus,” the second Adam. Paul is keen to offset any opposing idea when he says “the spiritual man was not first” (1 Corinthians 15:46-48). The earthly man comes before the second Adam who is the Lord Messiah — not the other way round.

“The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, earthy; the second Man is the Master from heaven. 24. First spirit and then flesh

In the 4^th century strange ideas entered Christendom and certain Christians did everything to become on good terms with the men in power.

In 2 Clement 5:9 the original system was being suppressed by the philosophical notion that Jesus was “first spirit and then flesh.” That shift, documented by 2 Clement 5:9, meant that the historical Jesus was being swallowed up by a different Jesus. As Martin Werner lamented, “the historical Jesus completely disappeared” behind a Gnostic counterfeit figure (Formation of Dogma, p. 298).

A prominent spokesman for the traditional view that God is three Persons in one Essence (“three Whos in one What” as James White and Hank Hanegraaff maintain) writes: “Our Lord Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. God tabernacling in human form. When I say that I believe in the full deity of Christ, that is what I affirm. At his birth our Lord Jesus Christ did not begin to exist” (Rev. Ian Paisley). So much for Matthew and Luke and John!

Anthony Buzzard wonders: “Putting on our Berean hats, what do we find? The origin, coming into existence of the Son of God was as follows (so wrote Matthew in 1:18): Mary was found to be pregnant under the influence of “holy spirit” — the personal operational presence and power of the One God, the Father. The result of the biological miracle worked in Mary is laid out for us: “What is begotten, fathered, brought into existence in her is from the holy spirit” (1:20). Mary would have had no difficulty understanding this very plain, unifying information, and nor should we. We might even risk being struck dumb for not believing, as was Zacharias.”

25. Seed of Eve

To bring any of the persons God foresaw in existence He uses human beings who, today, all come from the same forefathers: Adam, Noach/Noah and Abraham. In the line of David and Abraham came Jesus also into existence or “begat”, following God’s marvellous promise that the Messiah would be the seed of Eve (Genesis 3:15)[1]. In the Old Testament is written in the future sense that Jehovah our God would raise up to us a prophet from among the people to whom He spoke for generations. The priest’s due from the people[2], also would be one as the writer, to whom many would and should listen. In Old Times Jehovah had said. “I shall raise up a prophet to them from among their brothers, one like you; and I will put My Words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. And it shall be, whoever will not listen to My Words which he shall speak in My name, I will require it at his hand.” (Deuteronomy 18:15-19 LITV)

““יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers. Listen to Him, according to all you asked of יהוה your Elohim in Ḥorĕḇ in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of יהוה my Elohim, nor let me see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ “And יהוה said to me, ‘What they have spoken is good. ‘I shall raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers. And I shall put My Words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. ‘And it shall be, the man who does not listen to My Words which He speaks in My Name, I require it of him.” (Deuteronomy 18:15-19 The Scriptures 1998+)

The seed of Eve would also bring the descendant by bloodline of David.

““And now, say to My servant Dawiḏ, ‘Thus said יהוה of hosts, “I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people, over Yisra’ĕl. “And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are on the earth. “And I shall appoint a place for My people Yisra’ĕl, and shall plant them, and they shall dwell in a place of their own and no longer be afraid, neither shall the children of wickedness oppress them again, as at the first, even from the day I appointed rulers over My people Yisra’ĕl, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. And יהוה has declared to you that He would make you a house. “When your days are filled and you rest with your fathers, I shall raise up your seed after you, who comes from your inward parts, and shall establish his reign. “He does build a house for My Name, and I shall establish the throne of his reign forever. “I am to be his Father, and he is My son. If he does perversely, I shall reprove him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.” (2 Samuel 7:8-14 The Scriptures 1998+)

God, in a precious moment of history, initiated the history of His unique Son. The Words spoken for many years could come into realization, could come the cause of the generation.[3] This was a Son through whom God expressly did not speak in previous times.

“Elohim, having of old spoken in many portions and many ways to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all, through whom also He made the ages,¹ {Footnote: ¹John 1:3.} who being the brightness of the esteem and the exact representation of His substance, and sustaining all by the word of His power, having made a cleansing of our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand of the Greatness on high, having become so much better than the messengers, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than them.” (Hebrews 1:1-4 The Scriptures 1998+)

The Elohim, Jehovah God spoke about a future because naturally since that prophesied Son was not then alive! Being not alive is also not being in existence, in life, in vigour.[4]

13. Son of Adam and Abraham

He would be a new Adam and also a son of Abraham – A Jew born, and as such has a right to the first offer of salvation. Salvation came to him in the sense that his heart was turned from sin and selfishness toward God and righteousness. Jesus had faith in Abraham and as such could be counted as one of his children.

“And יהושע said to him, “Today deliverance has come to this house – since he also is a son of Aḇraham. “For the Son of Aḏam has come to seek and to save what was lost.” And as they were hearing this, He spoke another parable, because He was near Yerushalayim and they thought the reign of Elohim was about to be manifested straightaway. He therefore said, “A certain nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a reign and to return.” (Luke 19:9-12 The Scriptures 1998+)

For us this may be an assurance that all who have the faith of Abraham may be counted as children of Abraham as disciples of Jesus.

When the apostle Matthew gives us the family tree we clearly can see the connection of Jeshua/Jesus with Adam, Abraham and David. In his 1^st chapter he provides basic information about the origin of Jesus, genesis of Jesus. His birth certificate is certified and guaranteed in Scripture. For Matthew this is not just his birth, but his origin (genesis, with one “nee,” Greek letter n, in the best manuscripts). That same word genesis opens the entire New Testament — as giving us the genealogy of the Son of God (Matt. 1:1)[1].

14. The Anointed son of God

The people could look out to the one who was going to be the Son of the living God.

“And Shim’on Kĕpha answering, said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim.” And יהושע answering, said to him, “Blessed are you, Shim’on Bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in the heavens.” (Matthew 16:16-17 The Scriptures 1998+)

Peter had received the vision we as Christians all should and can receive when we are willing to open up our mind to the Father of that promised anointed one. Jeshua or Jesus, as he is better known, is the Anointed One, the Messiah, whom God promised and provided for our salvation.

“Then Kĕpha, filled with the Set-apart Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Yisra’ĕl: “If today we are called to account for a good deed towards a sick man, by whom he has been healed, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Yisra’ĕl, that in the Name of יהושע[2] Messiah of Natsareth, whom you impaled, whom Elohim raised from the dead, by Him this one stands before you, healthy. “This is ‘the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ “And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.” And seeing the boldness of Kĕpha and Yoḥanan, and perceiving that they were unlearned and ordinary men, they marvelled. And they recognised that they had been with יהושע.” (Acts 4:8-13 The Scriptures 1998+)

“Met de geboorte van Jezus Christus is het zo gegaan: terwijl zijn moeder Maria verloofd was met Jozef, werd voordat zij waren samengekomen bevonden dat zij zwanger was uit den Heiligen Geest.” (Mattheus 1:18 LEI)

Dezer dagen nemen wij in herinnering hoe Jezus op aarde kwam. Eeuwen had men moeten wachten op de in de tuin van Eden beloofde Verlosser. Adam en Eva waren in de fout gegaan en daardoor was het bijna onmogelijk geworden voor hun nakomelingen om zuiver te blijven, zonder enige fout. De fouten van de mensen vermenigvuldigden maar. Er zijn zelfs ogenblikken geweest dat het wel leek of de wereld in en in slecht leek te zijn. Toch waren er steeds mensen die probeerden de Ene Ware God te volgen. God zond ook Zijn boodschappers uit en liet mensen voor Hem spreken tot de gemeenschap. Profeten brachten de boodschappen van God aan de wereld over.
Jaren vertelden zij over wat er nog zou gaan gebeuren. Wij kunnen nu terug kijken naar die voorspellingen en zien dat er zeer velen van zijn uitgekomen en enkele nog moeten geschieden.

De grote voorspelling van het teken dat God zou vaststellen maar weinig die het geloven zouden is waarheid geworden. De Schepper had een plan waarbij in Zijn ogen een groene scheut, die groeide aan een wortel in droge en onvruchtbare grond, de wereld zou bevruchten met behulp van zijn tekenen zoals wonderen en verscheidene parabels. Voor de
gewone mens zou die jonge tak niets aantrekkelijks hebben. Niets dat maakte dat mensen hem graag wilden aanvaarden. Zij verafschuwden en verachtten hem, een man van zorgen, vertrouwd met het bitterste verdriet. Zij keerden hem de rug toe en keken de andere kant op als hij langs kwam.

Het was op een vreemde manier dat hij ter wereld kwam.

Nog eens in de geschiedenis zond Jehovah een boodschapper. Die engel kwam zeggen dat een maagd een kind krijgen zou krijgen! Ook aan het jonge maagdje verscheen deze engel. “En de engel antwoordde en zei tegen haar: De Heilige Geest zal over u komen en de kracht van de Allerhoogste zal u overschaduwen. Daarom ook zal het Heilige Dat uit u geboren zal worden, Gods Zoon genoemd worden.” (Lukas 1:35 HSVNTPS) zij zou het kind Immanuël moeten noemen (dit betekent ‘God is met ons’). (Jesaja 7:14) voor de verloofde van Maria moet het toen een moeilijke keuze geweest zijn om zijn vriendin vol liefde nog aan te kijken. Maar terwijl hij hierover lag na te denken, kreeg hij een droom en zag een engel van God naast zich staan.
“Jozef, zoon van David,” zei de engel, “u kunt gerust met Maria trouwen.” (Mt 1:20) Samen vormden zij dan een eenvoudig arbeidersgezin, waarin Jezus zoals elk kind dingen moest aanleren. Indien hij God zou geweest zijn, zou hij alle dingen al geweten hebben en hebben kunnen doen.

“ En het Woord is vlees geworden en heeft onder ons gewoond m (en wij hebben Zijn heerlijkheid aanschouwd, een heerlijkheid als van de Eniggeborene van de Vader), en vol van genade en waarheid.” (Johannes 1:14 HSVNTPS)

Jezus zijn broers en zusters moesten het verdragen dat hun broer soms wel eigenzinnig leek op te treden.
Want met momenten leek hij hen niet te zien staan of leek het alsof hij niet besefte welk een leed hij hen aan deed. Want hij werd veracht en dat deed velen niets. Maar het was ons leed dat hij droeg. Hij vertelde dat hij gezonden was door zijn Vader, die wij ook onze Vader mogen noemen. En het was die Allerhoogste die deze mindere had gezonden om de vervloeking op de mens te verbreken. Ons lijden drukte hem neer.

Sommigen dachten dat zijn lijden een straf van God was voor zijn eigen zonden! Nochtans was hij zonder smet gebleven.
Ook al was hij maar een eenvoudige mens van natuur, slaagde hij er in niet in de verleiding te komen. Hij werd doorstoken en verbrijzeld terwille van onze zonden. Hij werd zwaar gestraft zodat wij vrede konden hebben; Hij werd geslagen en daardoor werden wij genezen! Wij zijn het, die als schapen afdwaalden! Wij verlieten Gods paden en gingen onze eigen weg. Desondanks legde God de schuld en zonden van ons allen op hem, die Hij Zijn geliefde Zoon noemde! Die Zoon van God werd in een hoek gedreven en mishandeld, maar zei geen
woord. Hij werd als een lam naar de slachtbank geleid; zoals een schaap onder het scheren geen geluid maakt, stond ook hij zwijgend voor degenen die hem veroordeelden.

Steeds had hij de liefde en het medeleven van zijn Vader verkondigt, maar toch werd het hem wat moeilijk tijdens de moeilijkste momenten, waarbij iedereen hem wel verlaten leek te
hebben. Vanuit de angst en de benauwdheid werd hij dan toch bevrijd.

Christus had een menselijk lichaam gekregen leefde bij ons hier op aarde om voor ons een voorbeeld te vormen. Hij liet ons zien hoe wij tegenover onze medemensen moeten omgaan en hoe wij Zijn Vader moeten dienen door de juiste geboden na te volgen en de juiste daden te verrichten. Jezus was vol vergevende liefde en waarheid. Wij hebben gezien hoe groot en machtig hij was, de enige Zoon van de hemelse Vader.) “En het Woord is vlees geworden en heeft onder ons gewoond (en wij hebben Zijn heerlijkheid aanschouwd, een heerlijkheid als van de Eniggeborene van de Vader), vol van genade en waarheid.” (Johannes 1:14 HSVNTPS)

Hij werd afgesneden van het leven. Maar wie van al die mensen realiseerde zich toen dat het hun zonden waren, waarvoor hij stierf? Dat hij hun straf op zich nam? Men had hem als misdadiger aan een houten paal opgehangen en willen begraven, maar hij werd in het graf van een rijke gelegd; omdat hij niets had misdaan, nooit een verkeerd woord had gezegd en in hem geen onrecht werd gevonden. Maar het was de bedoeling van de Allerhoogste, de Schepper van hemel en aarde, dat die man van onze nieuwe tijdrekening als nieuwe creatie de nieuwe Adam kon zijn.

Er zijn mensen die zich afvragen of Jezus wel getrouwd is geweest en of hij zelfs geen nakomeling had gebracht bij Maria-Magdalena. Zeker is het dat hij niet onkuis is geweest en zeker geen seks zal gehad hebben voor een huwelijk. En van dat laatste vinden wij niets terug in de Bijbel. Wel worden wij er van verzekerd dat deze Jezus talloze nakomelingen zou krijgen; vele erfgenamen. Hij zal opnieuw leven en Gods voornemen zal bij hem in goede handen zijn. En als Hij ziet wat allemaal is bereikt door zijn zware lijden, zal hij voldoening smaken. Door wat hij heeft ondervonden, zal Gods rechtvaardige dienaar vele mensen rechtvaardig maken in de ogen van Jehovah, want hij zal al hun zonden dragen. Daarom zal Jehovah hem de eerbewijzen geven van iemand, die machtig is en hoog in aanzien staat; want hij heeft zichzelf in de dood gegeven. Hij werd beschouwd als een zondaar, maar droeg de zonden van velen. Hij pleitte bij God voor overtreders. (Jesaja 53:1-12)

Doorheen de geschiedenis was die boreling verkondigd als de Uitverkorene van de Heer als de eeuwige bedoeling van de Heer, of het Plan van God. Dat Plan was er van bij de aanvang van de wereld, maar de uitvoering er van gebeurde pas later. Eeuwen na het ontstaan van de aarde kon God tegen de wereld zeggen om daar die man te zien waarvan Hij kon zeggen: ‘Jij bent mijn Zoon, op deze dag ben Jij verwekt.’ “Ik wil gewagen van het besluit van de ENE, hij heeft tot mij gezegd: ‘jíj bent mijn zóon, ––vandaag bracht ík jou óp de wéreld!–” (Psalm 2:7 NB)

In het allereerste begin was de volmaakte mens al voorzien. De mensheid moest na de zondeval echter eeuwen wachten vooraleer er terug een zuivere man ter wereld kwam. In Christus Jezus kon de wereld deze Nieuwe Adam vinden die ook de laatste Adam zou zijn.

“Zo staat er ook geschreven: De eerste mens, Adam, “is geworden tot een levende ziel,” de laatste Adam tot een levendmakende geest.” (1 Korinthiërs 15:45 LUNT04) “Maar de dood heerste van Adam af tot op Mozes, ook over degenen, die niet gezondigd hebben met gelijke overtreding als Adam, die een voorbeeld is van degenen, die komen zou.” (Romeinen 5:14 LUNT04)

Wij kunnen er op aan dat Gods beloften verder waarheid zullen worden. Zoals de Vader de doden levend maakt, zo zal ook Zijn Zoon levend maken wie Hij wil. “Want gelijk de Vader de doden opwekt en levend maakt, alzo maakt ook de Zoon levend, wie Hij wil.” (Johannes 5:21 LUNT04)

God meester van goed en kwaad

Is God de Schepper van goed en kwaad?

Afgelopen zaterdag spraken wij in de dienst over het kwaad en in welke mate God het toelaat en er aldus ook meester over is. Voor diegenen die geloven dat de duivel een gevallen engel is moet het kwaad dus reeds bestaan hebben voor de zondeval van Adam en Eva. Overal in de wereld, en vooral in de zogenaamde “Christelijke” wereld, Heerst de opvatting dat de goede dingen in het leven van God komen, en de slechte dingen van de Duivel of Satan. Dit is geen nieuw idee, noch iets dat tot een afgedwaalde Christendom beperkt is. De Babyloniërs bij voorbeeld geloofden in twee goden, een god van goed en licht, en een god van kwaad en duisternis. Deze twee waren in een dodelijke strijd gewikkeld. Dit was het geloof van Kores, de grote koning van Perzië. Daarom zei God tegen hem: “Ik ben de Heer en er is geen ander; buiten Mij is er geen God…. die het licht formeer en de duisternis schep, die het heil bewerk en het onheil schep; Ik, de Heer, doe dit alles.” (Jesaja 45:5,7, 22)[1]. God schept het heil en het onheil. God is de schepper van ‘het kwade’ in deze zin. In deze zin is er een verschil tussen ‘het kwade’ en de zonde, waar de mens aan schuldig is; zonde is de wereld binnengekomen door de mens, en niet door God (Romeinen 5:12).

God zegt tot Kores en de Babyloniers dat “buiten Mij is er geen (andere)God.” Het Hebreeuwse woord ‘el’, dat hier als “God” vertaald wordt, betekent eigenlijk ‘kracht, of bron van macht’. God zegt in feite dat er behalve Hemzelf geen andere bron van macht bestaat. Dit is dus de reden waarom een ware gelovige in God het idee van een bovennatuurlijke duivel of van demonen niet kan accepteren. Als men God als de volmaakte Schepper aanschouwt die enkel maar volmaakte dingen kan creëren kan men enkel stellen dat de aarde en hemel volmaakt moeten geweest zijn. Hoe kan dan het kwaad te voorschijn gekomen zijn. Dit is slechts mogelijk als God ook de schepper van het kwaad is. Slechts als God voorzien heeft dat het kwaad mogelijk kan zijn, kan het kwaad in de wereld gekomen zijn, anders moet er een andere schepper naast God aanwezig geweest zijn die dat dan voorzien heeft. (En van waar zou dan die andere schepper dan gekomen zijn?) De eeuwige, alwetende God heeft zich niet door het kwaad laten verrassen. Sterker nog, de almachtige en soevereine God heeft het kwaad, dat Hij haat, toch willen toelaten. Ook bracht Hij het over de mensen na hun zondeval. Hij waarschuwde hen dat zij als straf moeilijkheden, pijn en zelfs dood over hen zouden krijgen. Doorheen de geschiedenis greep God zelfs in door de dood nog spoediger over mensen te brengen. Denk maar aan de Zondvloed, Daniël en de leeuwenkuil, Sodom en Gomorrha. God keert het kwaad ten goede door het te gebruiken als de donkere achtergrond waartegen het licht van zijn menigvuldige genade als een regenboog afsteekt. Hij brengt verschrikkelijkheden over Egyptenaren en andere volkeren om hen te doen inzien wie zijn verkozen volk is en wie boven de Heersers van deze wereld staat. De Bijbel heeft voorbeelden in overvloed van hoe God ‘het kwade’ over de mensen en de wereld brengt. “ Geschiedt er een ramp in een stad, zonder dat de Heer die bewerkt?” (Amos 3:6)[2]. Als bijvoorbeeld een aardbeving een stad treft, dan wordt vaak aangenomen dat de ‘duivel’ het op die stad gemunt had, en de ramp veroorzaakt had. De ware gelovige, integendeel, moet begrijpen dat het God is, die daarvoor verantwoordelijk is. In Micha 1:12 staat: “onheil is van de Heer nedergedaald tot de poort van Jeruzalem.” In het boek Job lezen wij hoe de rechtvaardige Job al zijn aardse bezittingen kwijtgeraakt is. Het leert ons dat onze ervaring van ‘het kwade’ niet evenredig met onze gehoorzaamheid of ongehoorzaamheid aan God is. Job erkende dat “ De Heer heeft gegeven, de Heer heeft genomen.” (Job 1:21). Hij zei niet: “ De Heer heeft gegeven, de Satan heeft genomen.” Tot zijn vrouw zei hij: “zouden wij het goede van God aannemen en het kwade niet?”(Job 2:10). Aan het eind van het boek, vertroosten de vrienden van Job hem over “al het onheil dat de Heer over hem gebracht had.” (Job 42:11; vgl. 19:21). Het kan niet anders dan dat God de bron van “het kwade” is in de zin dat Hij diegene is die onze problemen uiteindelijk permitteert. God laat het immers toe dat er moeilijkheden, natuurrampen en problemen over mensen komen. “Want wie Hij liefheeft, tuchtigt de Heer…als tuchtiging hebt gij dit te dragen…later brengt zij hun, die erdoor geoefend zijn, een vreedzame vrucht, die bestaat in gerechtigheid.” (Hebreeën 12: 6-11). Hier zien wij dat de beproevingen die God over ons brengt uiteindelijk tot onze geestelijke groei dienen. Wij stellen Gods woord tegen zichzelf, als wij zeggen dat de duivel een wezen is, die ons tot zonde en ongerechtigheid dwingt, terwijl tegelijkertijd hij problemen in ons leven brengt, die tot doel hebben de vreedzame vrucht van gerechtigheid te ontwikkelen. Het orthodoxe idee van de duivel stuit hier op ernstige problemen. Vooral die passages die het er over hebben, dat een man aan de satan overgeleverd moet worden “opdat zijn geest behouden worde”, of “opdat hun het lasteren worde afgeleerd.” (1 Korinthiers 5:5; 1 Timotheus 1:20). Als Satan werkelijk iemand is die er op uit is mensen tot zonde te verleiden, en dus hen negatief beïnvloeden, waarom stellen deze passages de ‘Satan’ in een positieve licht? Het antwoord is, dat een tegenstander, een ‘Satan’ of moeilijkheid in het leven, vaak zou leiden tot positieve ontwikkelingen in het leven van een gelovige.

Als wij accepteren dat het onheil van God komt, kunnen wij tot Hem bidden om ons te helpen die problemen op te lossen, b.v. om hen weg te nemen. Want als God het kwaad niet zou toelaten en het van iemand anders afkomstig zou zijn, waarom vernietigd Hij die veroorzaker van het kwaad dan niet – tenzij de veroorzaker van het kwaad natuurlijk de mens zelf is. En hierop moeten wij zeggen dat daar ook een groot probleem ligt want de grootste veroorzaker van het kwaad in de wereld is weldegelijk de mens zelf. Kijk naar de vervuiling en de weerslag van de verkeerde ingrepen in de natuur (ontbossing bv.). Indien het kwaad toch over ons komt na gebed hoeven wij niet te vrezen dat God ons niet wil verhoren, wat op haar beurt ook weer zou betekenen dat God kwaad over ons laat komen door dat Hij niet wil ingrijpen. Wij kunnen anders kijken tegenover de moeilijkheden die ons tegemoet komen. Als God niet ingrijpt dan kunnen wij er misschien eens over nadenken of dat God dit kwaad misschien niet over ons wil laten komen zodat het ons tot geestelijk nut kan zijn. Maar als wij geloven dat er een slechte wezen is, de duivel of satan, die onze problemen veroorzaakt, dan komen wij er nooit onderuit. Invaliditeit, ziekte, plotselinge dood of welke calamiteit ook, moeten wij dan gewoon als ongeluk beschouwen. Als de duivel een of ander machtige en zondige engel is, dan is hij veel machtiger dan wij en hebben wij geen andere keus dan van zijn hand het lijden te aanvaarden. Daar tegenover worden wij vertroost dat “ God alle dingen (in het leven) doet medewerken ten goede voor hen, die God liefhebben, die volgens zijn voornemen geroepenen zijn.” (Romeinen 8:28). Er is dus geen ‘geluk’ in het leven van een gelovige. De Bijbel windt er geen doekjes om: de menselijke natuur is fundamenteel slecht. Wanneer wij dit accepteren, hoeven wij geen denkbeeldig persoon buiten onze menselijke natuur te verzinnen, die verantwoordelijk voor onze zonden zou zijn. In Jeremia 17:9 lezen wij dat het mensenhart zo arglistig en verderfelijk is, dat wij de omvang van zijn zondigheid niet kunnen vatten. Ook Jezus heeft in Mattheus 7:11 de menselijke natuur als fundamenteel slecht gestigmatiseerd. Salomo beschrijft het in niet mis te verstane termen: “het hart der mensenkinderen is vol boosheid.” ( Prediker 9:3). En God laat voorlopig de mens nog zijn gang gaan. Hij laat het toe dat mensen misdadigers tot leiders kiezen, maar dan moeten zij er zelf de gevolgen van dragen. Hoe erg het ook mag zijn, en hoe moeilijk wij het kunnen begrijpen dat zulk een kwaad als bijvoorbeeld een holocaust de mensheid mag bezoedelen, God is het wezen dat toelaat dat dit allemaal gebeurt. Maar Hij is niet zonder liefde en mededogen. Hij zal al die moeilijkheden ons niet voor eeuwig laten tarten. God heeft beloofd dat er verlossing van het kwaad zal komen voor al diegenen die God willen dienen en erkennen als de enige Ware Schepper van hemel en aarde. Zelfs voor de levenden heeft Hij al voor een Verlosser gezorgd. Die Voorziener, de Heiland kan nu reeds in het mensenleven verzachting brengen. Het is de Vertrooster die het mogelijk maakt dat wij het kwaad in deze wereld nu reeds aankunnen. Jezus is de man die ons een toekomst voor ogen brengt die werkelijkheid kan worden.

Waarom geloven in God?

Net als ieder ander mens, denkt u ook wel eens na over uw leven en de dingen om u heen. Met vele anderen bent u er ook van overtuigd dat er een “hogere macht” moet zijn. Iemand die er altijd was en door wie alles ontstaan is. De Bijbel zegt dat God er altijd was en dat Hij de Oorsprong is van alles.

De Bijbel zegt:

Jesaja 40:26.
“Kijk omhoog naar de hemelen! Wie maakte al deze sterren?”

Romeinen 1:20.
“God is wel onzichtbaar, maar Zijn werk – alles wat Hij heeft geschapen – bewijst Zijn eeuwige kracht. Want sinds het ontstaan van de wereld is Zijn bestaan duidelijk te herkennen uit wat Hij gemaakt heeft.”

Deze citaten uit het Boek van God bevestigen dat Hij alles heeft gemaakt. Een horloge bevestigt dat er een horlogemaker is die ooit dat horloge in elkaar heeft gezet. Zo bevestigen de wolken, de sterren, een schitterende bloem, etc, dat God de Maker van alles is.

Dit zegt ons:

God is de schepper en maker, de oorsprong van alles.

God is de maker van uw en mijn leven.

Het is verstandig en redelijk om in God te geloven.

Wie is God?

Als God de Maker is van alle dingen dan betekent dat, dat Hij een wezen is met eigenschappen van een persoon. Wie God echt is kan de mens niet ontdekken door de dingen die Hij heeft gemaakt. In Zijn boek (de Bijbel) maakt Hij zich nader bekend. Daarin laat Hij in het bijzonder zien wie Hij is als Persoon.

De Bijbel zegt:

Psalm 90:2.
“Al voordat U de bergen schiep, was U God. Voordat U de aarde schiep was U God. Vanuit de eeuwigheid van oudsher tot in de eeuwigheid in de verre toekomst bent U God.”

Psalm 139:1-5.
“Here, U ziet alles van mij; U kent mij helemaal zoals ik ben. U weet het als ik zit en weer opsta, vanuit de hemel weet U wat ik denk. U ziet waar ik heen ga en weet wanneer ik ga liggen. Alles wat ik doe, is voor U bekend. Elk woord dat ik uitspreek kent U al, Here. U bent bij mij, naast mij, achter mij. Uw hand rust op mij.”

1 Johannes 4:6.
“God is liefde.”

God is een God die alles weet. Hij weet precies wat u denkt en voelt. Bovenal is Hij een God die u en mij lief heeft.

Een aantal kenmerken van God:

Hij is een persoon.

Hij was er altijd en zal er altijd zijn (Hij is eeuwig)

Hij weet alles. (Hij is alwetend)

Hij kan alles. (Hij is almachtig)

Hij is overal aanwezig (Hij is alomtegenwoordig)

Hij is liefde

Waar komt de mens vandaan?

Ieder mens heeft zich wel eens afgevraagd: waar ga ik heen en waar kom ik verdaan. Is de mens het eindproduct van een toevallige en grillige oerkracht? In de Bijbel zegt God waardevolle dingen over de herkomst van de mens. Daaruit blijkt dat God op een bijzondere wijze betrokken was bij het ontstaan van de mens.

De Bijbel zegt:

Genesis 1:26.
“Toen zei God: Laat Ons mensen maken die op Ons lijken en kunnen heersen over alle dieren op aarde, in de zeeën en in de lucht.”

Genesis 2:7.
“Toen vormde de Here God het lichaam van de mens uit het stof van de aarde en blies hem de levensadem in. Zo werd de mens een levend wezen.”

Naast alles wat God heeft gemaakt is de mens uniek. Bepaalde eigenschappen die God bezit, heeft Hij ook aan de mens gegeven. De mens neemt een bijzondere plaats in, in Gods schepping.

De mens:

Heeft zijn oorsprong in God.

Is geschapen naar het beeld van God.

Is geroepen om een relatie met God te hebben.

Is er om God te eren en te aanbidden.

Hoe was het in het begin?
In het verre verleden was er een tijd op deze aarde dat alles goed was.
Er was geen ziekte, geen dood, geen haat. Alles was volmaakt. De mens
erkende dat God zijn Schepper was en ging op een juiste wijze om met
de schepping, de flora en de fauna.

De Bijbel zegt:

Genesis 1:31.
“Toen overzag God alles wat Hij gemaakt had en het was heel goed. Zo eindigde Hij de eerste dag.”

Openbaringen 4:11.
“Here, onze God, U bent alle lof, eer en macht waard, omdat U alles gemaakt hebt. Alles is ontstaan en gemaakt, omdat U het wilde.”

God zelf bevestigde dat in het begin alles heel goed was. Het was helemaal zoals God het bedoeld had. De mens kende geen kwaad en leefde optimaal door zijn relatie met God. Er was sprake van een volmaakte harmonie.

In het begin:

Was alles goed.

Was de mens volmaakt.

Zei God dat alles heel goed was.

Was er geen ziekte, angst, haat, dood, etc.

Waarom is er nu zoveel kwaad in de wereld?

Het is eigenlijk heel vreemd dat zoveel mensen God de schuld geven van alle ellende en kwaad dat er in de wereld is. God heeft dit alles nooit gewild. Het is Gods tegenstander, de duivel, die de mens verleid heeft om Gods mooie schepping kapot te maken.

De Bijbel zegt:

Genesis 2:16,17.
“Maar Hij (God) waarschuwde de mens: Je mag van alle bomen in de hof eten, maar niet van de boom van de kennis van goed en kwaad. Want als je daarvan eet, zul je zeker sterven’.”

Genesis 3:6.
“De vrouw liet zich ompraten (door de duivel)… Ze plukte wat vruchten en at ervan. Zij gaf ook haar man van de vruchten en hij at er ook van.”

Romeinen 5:12.
“Door de schuld van één mens, Adam, is de zonde in de wereld gekomen en de dood is het logische gevolg van de zonde. De dood breidde zich uit naar alle mensen, want zij zondigden allemaal.”

Uit deze citaten blijkt duidelijk dat door ongehoorzaamheid van de mens aan God er ziekte, kwaad, vijandschap, dood, etc op deze wereld zijn gekomen. De daad van ongehoorzaamheid door de eerste mensen noemt men “zondeval”.

Het ging fout:

Omdat de mens ongehoorzaam was geworden aan God.

Omdat de mens zich heeft laten verleiden door de duivel.

Omdat de mens wilde zijn als God.

Wie is de duivel?

Naast de mensen heeft God in het begin ook engelen geschapen. In de eerste plaats was de duivel ook een engel. Als engel wilde hij zijn als God en ook eer en aanbidding van de mensen ontvangen. De duivel is een diep bedorven wezen, die alleen maar kwaad en ellende kan voortbrengen. Hij is er constant op uit om de mensen van God gescheiden te houden.

De Bijbel zegt:

Johannes 8:44.
“Hij (de duivel) is al sinds het begin een moordenaar en heeft altijd buiten de waarheid gestaan, want de waarheid is hem vreemd. Hij kan alleen maar liegen. Hij is de bron van de leugen.”

2 Corinthiërs 11:5.
“Satan (de duivel) zelf kan zich voordoen als een engel van het licht.”

2 Petrus 5:8.
“Maar ondanks dat moet u de situatie goed inzien en op uw hoede zijn voor de grote tegenstander van God, de duivel. Hij gaat rond als een brullende leeuw, op zoek naar een prooi om te verslinden.”

De duivel zal nooit zijn ware karakter openlijk tonen. Naar zijn aard wil hij door onrecht, leugen, verleiding, kwaad en corruptie zijn doelen bereiken.

De duivel:

Is de verleider tot het kwaad.

Is de grote leugenaar.

Is de mensenmoordenaar.

Wat zegt God over de mens?

Door de zondeval is de mens een zondaar geworden. De volmaakte relatie die er was met God is toen verbroken. Sinds dat moment is de mens geneigd om kwade en boze dingen te doen. Door de zondeval is hij besmeurd en heeft hij de boosheid van God opgeroepen.

De Bijbel zegt:

Romeinen 3:23.
“Alle mensen hebben gezondigd en missen daardoor Gods nabijheid.”

Romeinen 3:10.
“Voor God is niemand rechtvaardig, werkelijk niemand.”

Jesaja 53:6.
“Wij zijn het die als schapen afdwaalden! Wij verlieten Gods paden en gingen onze eigen weg…..”

Als mensen kunnen we elkaar beoordelen op uiterlijke dingen. God kijkt naar ons hart en ziet dat het hart van de mens slecht en boos is.

Sinds de zondeval is:

De mens onrechtvaardig voor God.

De mens in zijn denken slecht en boos.

Gaat de mens zijn weg zonder God.

Is de relatie tussen God en de mens kapot.

Wat is zonde?

Vaak hoort men zeggen: “Dat is zonde!”. Dat kan men horen als iemand een mooie vaas kapot laat vallen, als iemand een kans gemist heeft, als een bepaald doel niet bereikt kon worden, etc. Zonde is: “Het doel missen.” Sinds de zondeval is de mens een doelmisser. Daarom geldt ook: “Het doel missen is zonde”.

De Bijbel zegt:

Jesaja 59:2.
“Het probleem is echter dat uw zonden u gescheiden houden van God. Vanwege de zonde heeft Hij Zijn gezicht van u afgekeerd en wil Hij niet meer luisteren.”

1 Johannes 5:17.
“Alle ongerechtigheid is zonde.”

Romeinen 6:23.
“Want het loon dat de zonde geeft, is de dood.”

Galaten 3:22.
“Want volgens de Boeken zitten alle mensen in de macht van de zonde.”

Zonde is een macht die in het hart van ieder mens zit en waardoor de mens kwade en slechte dingen doet.

Zonde is:

Alles wat tussen de mens en God in staat.

Het doel van je leven missen.

Niet leven voor het doel waar je voor geschapen bent door God.

Kan een mens weer een relatie met God hebben?

Het geweldige van de Bijbel is dat het een boek is met een boodschap van vergeving, verlossing en genade. God zelf heeft Zijn Zoon Jezus Christus naar deze aarde gezonden. Hij is gekomen om de breuk die was ontstaan tussen God en de mens, weer te herstellen.

De Bijbel zegt:

Johannes 3:16.
“Want God heeft zoveel liefde voor de wereld, dat Hij Zijn enige Zoon heeft gegeven; opdat ieder die in Hem gelooft, niet verloren gaat maar eeuwig leven heeft.”

1 Johannes 4:10.
“Daarom stuurde Hij (God) Zijn Zoon, Die de straf voor onze zonden op Zich heeft genomen om de verhouding tussen God en ons weer goed te maken.”

1 Johannes 4:14.
“Omdat wij het met eigen ogen hebben gezien, getuigen wij ervan dat God Zijn Zoon gestuurd heeft als Redder van de wereld.”

God zelf heeft het initiatief genomen om de gebroken relatie tussen Hem en de mens weer te herstellen. In Zijn liefde voor u en mij heeft Hij daar Zijn Zoon voor afgestaan, Die daarvoor moest sterven aan het kruis.

De gebroken relatie is weer hersteld:

God heeft Zijn Zoon gezonden.

Jezus is gekomen om de mens te redden.

Zij die in Jezus Christus geloven gaan niet verloren.

Wie is Jezus Christus?

Het is 2000 jaar geleden dat Jezus Christus als mens op deze aarde heeft gewoond en gewerkt, en wel op het grondgebied van het tegenwoordige Israël. Hij was van Joodse afkomst. Vanaf Zijn dertigste levensjaar ging Hij door het land als een rondtrekkend rabbi/leraar. Gedurende deze periode van drie jaren heeft Hij een aantal zeer opmerkelijke en exclusieve uitspraken gedaan m.b.t. zichzelf.

De Bijbel zegt:

Johannes 14:6.
“Jezus zeide: Ik ben de weg en de waarheid en het leven; niemand komt tot de Vader dan door Mij.”

Mattheüs 11:28-30.
“Jezus zeide: Komt tot Mij, allen die vermoeid en belast zijt, en ik zal u rust geven; neemt uw juk op u en leert van Mij, want ik ben zachtmoedig en nederig van hart, en gij zult rust vinden voor uw zielen; want Mijn juk is zacht en Mijn last is licht.”

Johannes 11:25.
“Jezus zeide: Ik ben de opstanding en het leven; wie in Mij gelooft zal leven ook al is hij gestorven, en een ieder die leeft en in Mij gelooft, zal in eeuwigheid niet sterven.”

Een Engelse professor, C.S. Lewis, was eerst een scepticus m.b.t. de persoon van Jezus Christus. Nadat hij veel over Zijn werk en leven gelezen en nagedacht had, kwam hij tot de volgende conclusie: Je kunt hem wegstoppen als een dwaas, op Hem spuwen en Hem doden als een boze geest of je valt voor Zijn voeten neer en noemt Hem Heer en God.”

Jezus Christus heeft van Zichzelf gezegd:

Dat de mens alleen maar tot God kan komen via Hem.

Dat alleen Hij de mens echt rust en vrede kan geven.

Dat alleen Hij eeuwig leven aan de mensen kan geven.

Wat hebben tijdgenoten van Jezus over Hem gezegd?

Vier tijdgenoten van Jezus hebben een uitvoerig verslag geschreven over Zijn leven en werk. Dat waren Mattheüs. Marcus, Lucas en Johannes. In deze verslagen (Evangeliën genoemd) hebben zij ook geschreven wat anderen van Jezus Christus gezegd hebben.

De Bijbel zegt:

Johannes 1:29.
“Johannes de Doper zeide: Zie het Lam Gods dat de zonde der wereld wegneemt.”

Johannes 1:50.
“Natanaël zei: Meester, U bent de Zoon van God! De Koning van Israël.”

Mattheüs 16:16.
“Simon Petrus zeide: U bent de Christus, de Zoon van de levende God.”

Johannes 20:28.
“Thomas antwoordde en zeide tot Hem (Jezus): Mijn Here en mijn God.”

Over één ding waren alle tijdgenoten van Jezus het eens; dit is een bijzonder mens. Niemand kon om Jezus heen. Een ontmoeting met Hem vroeg om een keuze. Zijn vijanden noemden Hem daarom een zoon van de duivel. Zij die het wilden zien en horen moesten belijden dat Hij de Messias was, die komen zou.

Anderen hebben van Jezus gezegd:

Hij is het Lam van God.

Hij is de Koning van Israël.

Hij is de Zoon van God, de Christus.

Hij is God en Here.

Hierboven kon je de meest gangbare gedachten vinden als men gelovigen hoort redeneren. Zij vergeten daar dan de Bijbel bij te nemen die eigenlijk dadelijk enkele punten kan recht zetten:

Zo is er slechts één God, Vader van allen

Hij is ook de enige die mag geëerd en aanbeden worden

Jezus is zijn zoon en niet Hemzelf

Jezus was een mens van vlees en bloed, geboren uit de maagd Maria en gestorven.

God heeft geen begin noch einde en is onsterfelijk.

Jezus is de Christus en beloofde Messias.

Als je die Bijbel, het Woord van God ter hand neemt zal je ook kunnen merken dat er nergens een verwijzing staat naar een zogenaamde Heilige Drievuldigheid of Drie-eenheid.
